My mom likes to order most things online so you can definitely buy one on eBay or Amazon. Of course, you can also get an Easy Bake Oven at Walmart or Costco and avoid any shipping costs. To save you even more money, you can sometimes find used Easy Bake Ovens on Craigslist or Varage Sale or at a garage sale!
Setting Expectations For Easy Bake Oven Recipes
Before I share how to make your own refill mixes, I want to be VERY CLEAR about what you should expect from them. Gourmet cakes? NO. A budget-friendly mix that will allow your child to bake a perfectly edible and tasty cake all on his or her own? Yes!!!
Eggs and oil are not necessary to attain this goal. A little smear of frosting can up the tastiness factor, but Ive eaten many, MANY plain cakes with ZERO complaints. 🙂 Also, its important to keep in mind that this is a childs toy, not a calibrated oven. The baking time may need to be adjusted slightly to achieve desired results.

To make the Easy Bake Oven pink sugar cookie mix recipe, add a tiny bit of pink food coloring . Its best not to use the liquid, but if thats all you have, add a tiny bit of flour until the consistency is back to how it was before the coloring was added.

Easy Bake Oven Frosting
- This can be made with 1/4 cup of powdered sugar and slowly adding water or milk until it is the consistency you want. We are all about EASY recipes.
The trick is finding the right amount to put in the pan so it doesnt overflow. Once you make the batter for 6 cupcakes spray the pan and put 2 heaping tbsp. in.
Then put it in the oven for about 10 minutes. I would check at minute 9 and see if its good for your taste or you want it a bit dryer and put in for another few minutes.
- We like our treats a bit on the wetter side so 9 minutes was good for us. If you want to make brownies use this brownie in a mug recipe and use the same amount. Be sure to check at minute 7 or so for how done you want them.

However, be careful with the hot Easy Bake brownie pan after you take it out of the oven. Its very hot and can burn you badly if you touch it! My mom said that they made some big safety changes since 2007 and Easy Bake Ovens models are very safe.

Make Your Own Easy Bake Oven Mixes
It took some research and a lot of trial and error, but my daughter and I hit upon just the right formula for using store-bought cake mixes to make our own Easy Bake Oven refills. We tested several brands in the process, and while the method Im going to share worked reasonably well for all brands, we both agreed that the Duncan Hines Signature cake mixes consistently produced the best results.
Given that a box of this cake mix retails for around $1.28 at Walmart and we were able to get about 11 Easy Bake Oven mixes per box, you can easily see how the savings add up. That breaks down to just $0.12 per mix versus $3.50 for a single Easy Bake Oven refill!!!

I picked up three boxes of Duncan Hines Signature cake mix, one each of French Vanilla, Dark Chocolate Fudge, and Strawberry Supreme, which is enough to make 33 Easy Bake Oven mixes in under 15 minutes. In addition, I recommend picking up a can of baking spray to prepare the pan, a couple of tubs of white frosting, and some rainbow sprinkles.
I also found this adorable mini turner and matching spatula that are the perfect size for smaller hands, so I grabbed them, as well. Unfortunately, theyre no longer available online, but I just stumbled upon this adorable 5-pc. silicone mini utensils set that I love even more!

Well it happened. Santa brought an Easy Bake Oven this past Christmas. Yep.an Easy Bake Oven. I had an Easy Bake Oven growing up as a kid and Ill admit itI LOVED it!
But now, for some reason, I look at them a little differently with Mom eyes! Maybe its the fact that now I understand that this little oven uses a light bulb to cook food. Maybe its the fact that you can no long see the cooking magic inside the oven because they did away with the little window on the front. Maybe its those less than palette-pleasing pre-packaged mixes. To be honest, maybe its a little of all three.

After poking around online, I found that there were a lot of options for us to make our own mixes. So much more affordable and the best partthey actually taste good!

A Few Tips For Best Results
- Measure the mixes precisely using the method described in the recipe. If you pack the mix into the measuring cup too densely, your cake will rise too high and stick to the top of the inside of your Easy Bake Oven.
- Cooking spray is a MUST to get the cake to release from the pan easily. As I mentioned, I like this baking spray for effectiveness, as well as flavor. Be sure to check out this quick tip for applying cooking spray with less mess!
- DO NOT pre-mix the cake batter while waiting for the Easy Bake Oven to preheat. This can also cause it to rise too high and stick to the inside of the oven. Mix it up after preparing your pan and place it in the oven right away.
- For a fun change of pace, shake decorating sprinkles on top of the prepared batter once its spread in the cake pan. This creates a funfetti style cake without muddling the bright colors!
