Hershey’s Brownies With Icing

Hershey’s Syrup Brownies
I searched for years for a brownie that was more ooey gooey than cake like and here it is. I make it in a 9X13 pan and it dissapears FAST. I found this on the back of a Hershey’s Cocoa can and the icing is from a friend.

1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
3/4 cup hershey’s cocoa powder
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup confectioners’ sugar
2 tablespoons warm water

Steps:

  • For brownies heat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9×13 pan with non stick cooking spray.
  • In large microwave safe bowl place butter and microwave until melted.
  • Stir in sugar and vanilla.
  • Add eggs one at a time, hand beating well with spoon after each addition.
  • Add cocoa beat until well blended.
  • Add flour, baking powder and salt beat well.
  • Stir in nuts if desired.
  • Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 30 – 35 minutes .
  • Drop icing on hot brownies and spread with a rubber spatula as icing melts. Cool completely and cut into bars.
  • For icing. Melt butter then wisk in the cocoa, butter and powder sugar. Icing will be thick but will melt when placed on hot brownies and make like a thin chocolate coating. The brownies are still good without the icing but what the heck, go for it!

Head of Hersheys kitchen told me to substitute 1 1/2 cups of the syrup or, to use the new 1 lb. pouch, on Ebay. It appears the 1 lb. can is still available here: Mercato Happy baking!One caution: even without nuts, the batter quite filled the specified pana regular rimmed cookie sheet. If you add the nuts, you will need to hold a few spoons of batter back.

For this recipe youll need 5-6 HERSHEYS bars all broken into 1/2 inch pieces.

My go-to hobbies during the quarantine have been walking, reading, crocheting, baking, and gaining weight. I have done a lot of all five.

I prefer the single serving pans because then no one complains about having been cheated by poorly measured cutting, and also because everyone gets brownies with crisp edges. My family likes the crisp edges .

How To Make The Best Cocoa Powder Brownie Recipe

  • Preheat the oven to 350º. Spray the pan you’ll be using with cooking spray and set aside. If you are using an 8×8 pan, it would be helpful to line it with parchment paper. If using a pan with wells, this is not necessary.
  • In a medium bowl, combine the hot melted butter, canola oil, and sugar. Whisk for at least a minute so that everything is well combined, and the sugar is as dissolved as possible. Ad the eggs and vanilla and beat until the batter turns a lighter color, at least another minute.
  • Sift in the flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until they are just incorporated. Be careful not to overbeat after you add the dry ingredients or your brownies will get too much air inside and be more cake-like than fudgy.

    I like to start by pre-heating my oven to 350 degrees and greasing a 13×9 baking pan. You can use parchment paper, which is fine if you dont have a non-stick baking pan, but just be sure to grease the paper, too.

    When the pan is prepared, I go ahead and put the water on to boil. Then I mix cocoa and baking soda in a large bowl, then stir in the 1/3 cup butter. The butter needs to be room temperature, not melted.

    After thats all mixed together, I pour in my boiling water and stir until the brownie batter mixture thickens.

    Then you just stir in sugar, eggs and the remaining 1/3 cup butter and mix until smooth.

    Add flour, vanilla and salt then blend completely.

    If youre going to add-in anything, this is where youll stir in nuts or brickle or whatever. Just 1/4 cup of anything, or youre going to negatively impact the gooeyness factor.

    Then its time to pour the batter into the prepared pan and sprinkle with chocolate chips.

    Bake 35-40 minutes or until brownies begin to pull away from the sides of the panor a toothpick inserted in middle comes out clean, whichever.

    If youve doubled the recipe, you need to think about baking it for an additional 30 minutes, checking the brownies for doneness every 10 minutes or so.

    But this recipe will make 2 dozen brownies, which is a lot. So, unless youre making these chocolate brownies for a party, youre probably good for this size
