Tips For Eating A Gluten
Before we dive in, let me remind you that ALL recipes on Downshiftology are gluten-free. So really, that means you have hundreds of recipes to choose from. But Ive rounded up 40 or so of my favorites in this post for you today.
Starting a gluten-free diet may seem tricky, but it doesnt have to be. The key is to focus on all the things you can eat, and nourish your body with simple, wholesome, and nutritious ingredients. Thats the best way to make your gut happy!
The Reason That This Anti
In order to help COMBAT that chronic inflammation, we need to first make some MAJOR lifestyle changes . Oops, Im failing at that.
We also need to MAXIMIZE certain nutrients in our diet, such as omega 3 rich foods , anti-oxidants, minerals, Vitamin D, probiotics, water, and so on and so on. Temporarily removing a dairy, and maybe even certain types of grains can help absorb your body absorb more nutrients and therefore reduce stress on the body. Does that make sense?
I know, youre probably now wondering but why a dairy-free Anti-inflammatory meal plan? Doesnt cultured dairy do wonder for the gut? YES, it SURE does! Grass-fed dairy thats rich in probiotics, like kefir, and yogurt, and even REAL butter, can be healthy and nourishing. Plus they are SOOOO tasty!
But heres the thing, if you are under that chronic inflammation and stress, then you might also be experiencing digest issues and food intolerances. Any food can be inflammatory if your body comes to see it as an invader under chronic inflammation. Which may include dairy, casein, and lactose included! Hopefully, its a temporary intolerance, but you never know. Which is why I suggest trying out a low FODMAP meal plan first.
No no, dont be worried, we can get this all worked out. Yes, we are going nourish the body and reduce stress.

Coconut Milk Alfredo Sauce
When you find yourself craving the creamy richness of a good alfredo sauce, pull this one out of your pocket. Oil-free, nut-free, and soy-free, this sauce has just 5 ingredients to make it so utterly unresistable.
Nutritional yeast adds flavor, tapioca starch gives it the texture, garlic powder, and liquid smoke combine with salt to add even more flavor, and water adds to coconut milk to create the creamy, saucy mixture we all know and love.

Cranberry Apple Cider Sangria

It can be confusing to know what substitutions to use when you first eliminate gluten or dairy. And dont even get me started on the cost of ingredients! Once youve found your ingredients, youre probably wondering what gluten free dairy free recipes to prepare? How can you be sure your new recipes will work out? Ive spent lots of time trying and testing recipes that are free of dairy and gluten ingredients, and Im excited to share these recipes with you. They are family friendly and so delicious.
These are all gluten free dairy free recipes, but if you do eat dairy, feel free to swap in regular butter or cheese if you wish.
Easy Dairy Free Recipe Swaps
- Swap dairy milk with any plant based milk. Soy milk has about the same amount of protein as cow and goat milk. Other options are almond milk, cashew milk, coconut milk, flax milk, hemp milk, oat milk , macadamia milk, and pea milk. Or try making your own using this easy 1-milk dairy-free milk recipe.
- Swap cheese with plant-based cheese. If you havent tried plant-based cheese in awhile, there are some pretty tasty ones available. I really like Miyokos Creamery and Kite Hill dairy-free cheeses.
- Swap butter with a dairy-free alternative. Extra-virgin olive oil and avocado are two of my favorite heart healthy butter swaps. I also like Melt Organic and Earth Balance Organic spreads.
- Swap yogurt with plant-based yogurt. You have a lot of options when it comes to choosing a plant-based yogurt these days. Choose from coconut milk, cashew milk , and soy milk versions.
- Swap dairy ice cream with plant-based ice cream or sorbet. Ice cream lovers rejoice! You dont have to give up your favorite treat! Choose from coconut milk and oat milk versions available in your grocery store. As always, read lables. Just because a prodcut is diary-free, it doesnt automatically mean its gluten-free too!

Meal Prep For The Week
If you dont have much time to cook on weekdays, its a good idea to make some of these recipes ahead. Many of them can be stored in the fridge for 3-5 days just use airtight meal prep containers or jars.
I personally love making ahead the Mediterranean Salmon Bowl, the Avocado Chicken Salad and my 5-Minute Mediterranean Bowl. Follow the instructions in the individual recipes, so that your food stays fresh for more than a day!

How To Choose Food And Recipes For Camping
If youre planning on doing a lot of hiking as well and want to make packable snacks ahead of time, choose foods that:
- Are lightweight
- Need no refrigeration
- Dont melt easily if its hot
For camping dinners and meals made over a grill or over a campfire, find foods and meals that:
- Are easy to make
- Uncomplicated and have simple ingredients
- Have ingredients that are canned or can be kept in a good cooler
- Dont use a lot of pots, pans, or dishes
If your cooler doesnt keep things very cold and youre camping longer, make the fresh foods at the beginning of your camping trip and plan canned or preserved foods toward the end of your trip so you can use up your fresh foods first.
