If your life is anything like mine, you are always on the run.
As much as fall is my favorite time of year, it brings with it a pace that can make having the time for good nutrition a challenge.
With school, family commitments, and a busy business, I often find myself tempted to take the easy way out when I’m feeling hangry. Usually, this involves something that is going to feel good in the minute but ultimately leaves my energy levels waning.
I try to meal prep on the weekend, but with two growing boys that eat as if they were training for professional sports, rarely to my efforts last through the week.
The solution? I make sure I’m getting a smoothie, like this Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie, every day.
Not just some days.
There simply isn’t an easier way to pack in nutrition. In less than five minutes, I can be enjoying a delicious drink that is loaded with nutrition.
I love how easy it is to add in extras to my smoothie.

Some days, I really just dont have the time/energy/appetite for making breakfast. When I do, Im all about the pancakes and waffles, but some days, especially when I sleep through an alarm or two , I need something quick. This Iced Coffee Protein Shake has become an absolute staple. Its filling, gets me my caffeine fix, and is only 1 WW SP.
What Can I Add To My Protein Shake To Gain Weight
To gain weight by drinking protein shakes, add ingredients like avocado, nut butter, healthy oils like coconut oil, and extra protein sources like oats. Make sure you have a full-fat milk in there such as dairy milk or coconut milk.
Almond and cashew milk are good for adding in calories, too.
Have 2-3 small protein shakes a day and be sure to focus on healthy foods like whole grains and lean proteins for extra muscle-building power.
Stay away from processed foods they will not help you gain weight in a healthy way. Instead, they can lead to inflammation.
Apple Pie Protein Shake Recipe

What youll need to make this delicious shake:
- Premier Protein Vanilla Protein Powder
- 1 sliced, cored Apple
Did you know you can ? Save time and the hassle of store lines and shop online!
Combine ingredients in a blender and mix for 1 minute. This recipe makes a 24oz shake, and I used my favorite blender the Nutri Ninja Blender.
I garnished the top for looks, but everything will be well blended after 1 minute. I also put the smoothie in the refrigerator while I get ready for my workout, so it has extra time to chill.
My entire family LOVES this apple pie protein shake recipe, and I know you will too. It really tastes just like apple pie, but way healthier!!
And did you see I added a hidden veggie in there? You wont taste the spinach at all, I promise. Its just there for added nutrients. This is especially great for those that are not fans of green veggies .

Your Muscles Will Love This Smoothie
Lets take a closer look at each of the three ingredients that go into making this smoothie in order to see why theyre all such great choices. Starting with ½ cup of plain Greek yogurt, youll be adding a great tasting source of protein . Not only does adding Greek yogurt help to considerably ramp up the protein content of this recipe, but its also an excellent source of probiotics for giving your gut health a boost as well. Research has shown that probiotic intake has been linked with a better immune system response as well as improved metabolic processes. Greek yogurt also provides all of the same great nutrients that regular yogurt provides you, including vitamin B12, calcium, and potassium.
In order to further up the protein content of this recipe, youll also be adding in one scoop of chocolate whey protein powder. As Ive mentioned before, whenever I purchase whey protein, I always make sure to buy whey isolate. Its the purest form of whey available and its a complete protein source. You can get the exact brand of chocolate whey isolate that I use by its made by Isopure and provides 25 grams of protein per serving. It also provides five grams of branched chain amino acids per scoop along with an excellent added blend of vitamins and minerals.
Strawberry Banana Protein Shake
This blog post is sponsored by Premier Protein.
Since Im not a traditional breakfast person, sipping on this strawberry banana protein smoothie is the perfect way to rev up my engine for the day without having to chew. Its a great start to a morning!
Sneaking some extra protein into your diet through protein powder also helps fuel your body and keep it full longer, so youre not as likely to be tempted to reach for unhealthy choices.
Youre probably wondering what kind of protein powder I used, so Ill solve the mystery for ya. Im using Premier Proteins Whey Powder because it has zero artificial flavors, colors or sweeteners .
The facts: 30g 100% whey protein, 180 calories and 3 g of sugar.
Premier Proteins Whey Powder comes in two flavors: Chocolate Milkshake and Vanilla Milkshake and it can be mixed with water or milk, so its perfect for blending into this delightful strawberry banana protein shake. I also suggest trying it mixed in with a bowl of oatmeal or even baked into a protein-packed recipe.
To make this strawberry banana protein shake, I like to use frozen fruit since it will give a nice thick, frosty texture to the drink. Strawberries always taste great in smoothies and a banana provides healthy carbs and potassium.
Tip: Save your overly ripe bananas. Peel them and pop them in a freezer bag to have on hand whenever you want to make a protein shake.

McCormick brand extracts added to your premier protein can help it to taste better. If you don’t like the taste of protein drinks. Try adding a flavor extract to them. McCormick makes several that will make getting your protein a little easier. Try the caramel extract in the vanilla premier protein I add the mixture to my coffee in the morning. It is oh so good. Do You Need Extra Protein
The only person who can answer that with some true authority would be your doctor or medical professional such as a dietitian. And they can only answer that question by listening to YOU about your diet and lifestyle situation to assess protein needs. So awareness for what food you eat is really important. Some people need to keep a food diary, while others just know what they eat.
I find that if you are the one shopping and cooking you probably have a more accurate grasp on what your daily menu looks like.
But in generalThe recommendation for protein for adult male vegans is around 63 grams per day for adult female vegans it is around 52 grams per day.VRGBut protein isnt a one size fits all for any one stage of life or person. For example, when I was pregnant and now postpartum, I need to get a bit more protein than I would normally need. Thus why I am loving this Simple Chocolate Protein Shake!

At this time of year, I start almost every single day with a big cold smoothie! It cools me off, it fills me up, and it keeps me going all morning long thanks to plenty of protein! Since this is a low-calorie smoothie on its own, I like to add some granola to the top and eat it with a spoon , or serve a piece of toast with peanut butter on the side.

When Should You Drink Protein Shakes
I prefer to drink my protein shake after I exercise. Thats because I want that source of protein to help my body build and maintain muscle mass. Im typically hungry also, so a quick-to-make shake is the best thing to curb my hunger pains fast.
But if you like to drink your protein shake before you head to the gym or out for a walk, thats okay as well because you get the energy you need to complete your exercise goal.
You want to spread out your protein intake throughout the day for optimum results, so as long as you are getting what you need, when you drink the shake is up to you.
