There are so many ways of stuffing a jalapeño popper. I have a classic, simple way of stuffing my jalapeño poppers with bacon. You can create different flavors and fun ways to add to your baked, stuffed jalapeño popper with these varieties.

  • Cheese: goat cheese, mozzarella, Colby jack or Monterey cheese.

  • Seasonings: cayenne pepper, garlic salt or red pepper flakes.

Best Ingredients To Use For Bacon Wrapped Cheesy Stuffed Jalapeos

Todays recipe is an adaption of a crowd-pleasing appetizer Ive made many times. I typically follow a recipe from Kraft, but decided to spice it up. Now theres even more bold and spicy flavors in each bite.

  • Jalapeños: Halved jalapeño peppers are the base of this recipe. The bigger the pepper, the more cheesy filling you can fit inside. I like to remove all of the seeds when Im making stuffed jalapeños since they carry a lot of heat. Dont fret these are still plenty spicy without the seeds.
  • Cheese: We use a mix of cream cheese and shredded cheese for the filling. I use shredded cheddar cheese, but Mexican-style or pepper jack are also tasty.
  • Garlic: 1 minced clove of garlic adds a hint of flavor.
  • Paprika: Smoked paprika adds spice and bold flavor.
  • Bacon: Each stuffed pepper is wrapped in bacon before baking.

Why You Need To Use Toothpicks

Most recipes for bacon-wrapped jalapeño poppers instruct you to wrap the peppers in bacon and load them straight into the oven. But we found this method resulted in the bacon shrinking and unraveling from the peppers.

Our solution? Using toothpicks to secure the bacon in place as the poppers bake. As an added bonus, the toothpicks make the poppers easier to eat you can pick them up with the toothpicks and pop them straight into your mouth. No messy fingers in sight.

You slice your jalapenos in half lengthwise. I always like to leave just a little bit of the stem of the pepper as a handle for serving. It also makes it pretty apparent when they are served that they are peppers so that everyone knows. Once you slice your peppers, remove the seeds and the white membrane from them.

Next, grab a knife and fill each of your pepper halves with cream cheese. Make sure not to overfill your jalapeno halves as it will ooze out when they bake!

Some like to mix up a blend of cream cheese and cheddar cheese for the filling. If you prefer to do that, mix your cheese together in a bowl until well blended and then spread the mixture into the pepper half. Either way is delicious! Repeat until all of your jalapeno halves have been stuffed.

Then, youll want to prepare your bacon. Youll want one slice of bacon for each whole jalapeno. Then, cut your bacon in half so that you have one piece for each jalapeno half. I like to use thick cut bacon, but use whatever bacon your family enjoys.

Then, wrap a bacon piece around each of your stuffed jalapeno halves. You can secure your bacon with a toothpick if needed, but I have found that the bacon stays fairly well when you wrap it tightly around the jalapeno half and that the toothpicks arent really needed.

Once wrapped securely, put onto a rimmed baking sheet and repeat until all halves have been wrapped well.

It probably wont surprise you that the first ingredient in this recipe is jalapenos. I like to buy jalapenos that are about 3-4 inches long, you dont want them to be too small or theyll be hard to stuff. The jalapenos are sliced in half and the seeds and ribs get removed. Removing the seeds and ribs removes most of the heat from the peppers if you like it spicier, leave some of the seeds and ribs in. The peppers are stuffed with a combination of cream cheese, cheddar cheese and spices.

The final step in the process is the bacon. You definitely want to avoid thick cut bacon here as itll take a lot longer to crisp up in the oven. The jalapenos get wrapped in half a slice of bacon and then secured with a toothpick. You can remove the toothpicks before serving like I did here, or leave them in for people to grab off the party platter. Whatever you prefer!

I like to serve my bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers with a side of ranch for dipping, but honestly theyre awesome as-is too. • Jalapeno peppers Youll need about 10 for this recipe. Cut them in half and remove the seeds, not only to make room for filling but to reduce the heat.
    • Grated sharp cheddar Freshly shredded from a block. It tastes better and melts better than prepackaged shredded cheese.
    • Cream cheese Bring to room temperature about 30 minutes prior. It makes it much easier to spread.
    • Bacon Regular sliced bacon works well with this recipe.

How To Make Jalapeno Poppers With Bacon

These scrumptious appetizers come together in less than 30 minutes. Prepare them ahead of time for added convenience!

Step 1: Add bacon to a skillet and cook on medium/high heat until crispy. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate. This will soak up any excess grease that would make the filling too runny.

Step 2: Combine cheddar cheese, cream cheese, and bacon bits in a bowl and mix to combine, making sure its all incorporated.

Step 3: Fill each individual jalapeno half by loading it with the cheese mixture, but dont overload it. Place them on a baking sheet and bake until the cheese melts and the tops are golden brown about 10-12 minutes. Keep an eye on them, if they bake for too long or the cheese is too full, you may notice it flips the peppers on its side and the cheese may fall out. If this happens, just scoop it back in.

Step 4: Finish it off with a sprinkling of crushed chips and any optional herbs you desire before serving.

Enjoy on its own or with a side of ranch or blue cheese dressing for dipping.

    Are Cheddar Jalapeno Poppers Gluten-Free?

The base ingredients of the peppers, cheese, and plain bacon are gluten-free but to make sure the recipe remains gluten-free, just make sure to check the ingredients on the chips. Sometimes gluten is hidden in places youd never expect, so for added insurance, having a certified gluten-free label is beneficial.
