There is a difference between herbal teas and green, black and oolong which come from a specific plant called the Camellia sinensis known to have health benefits. An herbal tea that is often underrated for the immune system is ginger tea.

How To Make Turmeric Tea

To make the turmeric immune tea add 5 cups of water to a pot along with thin slices of fresh ginger root and turmeric. If you cant find fresh turmeric use the powder form. If you dont mind getting your fingers and cutting board dirty, its actually better to finely grate the turmeric so it really infuses into the water.

Its important to add one crack of fresh black pepper to the pot, it activates the turmeric. Also add the peel from one lemon, make sure to peel off the white bitter part, and a pinch of cayenne pepper. I like to say the cayenne burns the demons from your body!

Bring the water to a bare simmer and immediately reduce it to the lowest heat setting possible on your burner. If you boil this tea you will kill some of the nutrients. Cook tea for 7 minutes, turn the heat off, and add the juice of 1 lemon and one teaspoon of virgin coconut oil.

The fat helps your body absorb the turmeric, but you can also use avocado oil or grass-fed butter if you like. Once the tea cool down for 3 minutes, pour a cup and stir in raw honey to taste.

Immune Boosting Herbal Tea Blend Recipe

Making this herbal tea blend is easy. I generally do approximately equal parts of each dried herb, and I keep some in a little jar so that I always have some on hand.

If youd like to use fresh ginger instead of dried, you can always leave that out of the blend until you are ready to make the tea, then add the fresh root.

To make the tea, bring 1-2 tablespoons of the tea blend mixture per cup of water to a boil, then simmer for up to ½ hour or more. The longer you simmer, the stronger the tea will be!

Drink 1-3 times per day when you feel the very beginnings of a sickness coming on, or even if you feel like you may be in an immune compromised situation, such a a long plane ride. Continue taking for up to 2 weeks if needed.

The best part about this immune boosting herbal tea blend is that it actually tastes good! The combination of the elderberries, rose hips, and ginger give it a nice berry flavor with a sweet and spicy kick from the ginger. Its a treat to drink when the winter sickies come on!

Measuring in parts can be slightly intimidating if youve never tried it before. However, once you get more practice with this measuring technique, I personally find it even easier than traditional measuring. Most of the time we think of explicit measurements such as 1 cup or 1/4 tablespoon. When batch working, we tend to work in ratios. Creating a tea blend is a batch working process.

Lets say we are making our tea recipe. I tend to make a larger amount right away so I can divide it up and travel easier with it. Right away Ill grab a large spoon. This spoon has no explicit measurement, its just large and we are looking for ratios. Say if I want 3 parts elderberries, Id take 3 scoops with my large spoon and put it into the bowl. If I want 1.5 parts of another ingredient, Id take 1.5 scoops of that ingredient and place it into the bowl. Essentially 1 part is 1 scoop of whatever measurement tool you are using and everything builds off of that!
