Glass Bowls To Store Portions In The Fridge And Freezer
I have two sets of glass prep bowls with covers . When making different batches of purees, you will need many bowls. These are perfect because they are easy to store, and well suited for freezing and thawing. Any size or shape of a glass or ceramic bowl will also work well but consider ones that have covers.
Note: I dont use a microwave, so to warm the purees, I would simply spoon out into another glass bowl the amount your baby might eat. You wont use the full 1 cup in the early weeks/months, so spoon out just a portion to warm. This helps avoid wasting any food that your baby may not eat, as you should not save any leftovers that have made contact with your babys hands or mouth.
Place this bowl in a larger bowl and pour in enough hot/boiled water to come up to about three-quarters of the height of the inner bowl. This will quickly warm the food you can stir it to evenly distribute the heat. Of course, make sure to test all food for the proper temperature before feeding it to your little one.
In the first weeks of introducing foods, youll be working with single food purees, such as sweet potatoes. Later, you can start combining some of these foods. Some vegetables and fruits work better blended with others.
Prepare For Dislikes: Your child may love parsnips. Or not. Dont force the issue, but do reintroduce, and try to do so creatively. Maybe try a puree with parsnip and pears for instance. But, if your child is really refusing, dont be stubborn, try something else.
Favorite Toddler Feeding Supplies
P.S. below are some of our favorite toddler feeding supplies that make toddler meal time just a little easier.
Pillowfort Plates: these plates are the best! They are our go-to plates and we use them for just about every single meal. They have held up up great after more than a year of use and going through the dishwasher.
Sandwich & Veggie Cutters: we got these a few months ago and they are so cute! I love to use these to make fun shapes when making sandwiches and also love the smaller veggie cutters for fruits and veggies.
Ingenuity Booster Seat: this is a great booster seat! We moved to a booster seat at the table at 18 months old. This booster seat is great because it is super easy to clean and fits well at our counter height table.

I absolutely love muffins and I think they are such an amazing food for little hands to hold and can be filled with amazing ingredients to make them super healthy. My aim with this recipe was to come up with a solution to an egg free muffin that still tastes really good. These turned out amazing and it is so hard to believe they are really good for you! As there is no egg in the batter it can be eaten raw so little hands can help with the cooking too.

Clever Ways To Get Your Toddler To Eat Vegetables
Getting your toddler to eat veggies can be challenging. Some kids embrace vegetables and new foods, while others may need repeated exposure or different preparations.

If youre having a hard time getting your toddlers to gobble up their veggies, these 6 tips may help.
Vegan Butternut Squash Soup
This is a recipe for butternut squash soup that you have to save in your bookmarks or even better press print and make it today! It is a great vegan baby food and works well if you make a double batch and freeze in little zip-lock bag portions, perfect for busy days. Another great tip is to store in a mini muffin tin so you have little baby sized portions on hand always! When they are frozen, pop them out and place into freezer bags then label. When you come home from work at 6pm and your baby is REALLY hungry and cant wait for food , you can pop a little portion into a bowl and straight into the microwave. They defrost in less than 5 minutes! Serve with a little brown bread to soak it up and place it in front of your little one then let them get to work.

One dish that I love making when the weather grows cold is a hearty bouillabaisse. Getting Your Child To Eat Fruit And Vegetables
It may take up to 10 tries, or even more, for your child to get used to new foods, flavour and textures.
Be patient and keep offering a variety of fruits and vegetables, including ones with bitter flavours such as broccoli, cauliflower, spinach and cabbage.
Try to make sure fruits and vegetables are included in every meal.
Try these ways to help your child eat more fruit and vegetables:
- give carrot sticks, cucumber stick or slices of pepper with hummus as a snack
- give apple slices with smooth peanut butter as a snack
- mix chopped or mashed vegetables with rice, mashed potatoes, meat sauces or dhal
- add vegetables to classic savoury dishes such as cottage or shepherd’s pie, spaghetti bolognese or casseroles
- chop prunes or dried apricots into cereal or plain, unsweetened yoghurt, or add them to a stew
- for a tasty dessert, try mixing fruit with plain, unsweetened yoghurt.

Before And During Solids: Breastfeeding
Breastmilk is the best food for your baby. Babies should be breastfed exclusively until the middle of the first year, with continued breastfeeding after the introduction of solid food.
Continued breastfeeding is recommended to 2 years of age or longer. The World Health Organization identifies research showing that on a population basis, exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months is the optimal way of feeding infants.
Thereafter infants should receive complementary foods with continued breastfeeding up to 2 years of age or beyond. Exclusive breastfeeding until the middle of babys first year is the best prevention for allergies. In addition, maternal avoidance of the most allergenic foods during the last trimester of pregnancy and during lactation may help prevent allergies.
Vegans should be aware that babies need DHA in their diet for their first two years. DHA is a long-chain omega-3 fatty acid that is important for brain development. It must be obtained through the diet in these early years.
DHA is in mammalian milk but is not found in soy milk, soy formula or any other plant-based milks. Therefore, if you will not or cannot breastfeed for 2 years, you will need to talk to your naturopath about other options.
What Should You Know About Feeding Your 18
- Follow their cues: Your little one knows when they are hungry and full, let them guide how much they eat
- Tips for picky eating: You provide healthy foods at mealtimes, let your toddler choose what and how much to eat
By 18 months, your child can eat the same foods as the rest of the family, making mealtime much easier to figure out. At this age, offer your little one food every 2 to 3 hours since their tummies are still pretty small and theyll need to eat frequently throughout the day to get the nutrients needed for development.1 This usually ends up being 3 meals and about 2 to 3 nutritious snacks daily.
Follow your toddlers hunger and fullness cues
Your little one may be able to verbalize when they are hungry and when satisfied. Their developing communication skills may also include voicing their likes and dislikes when it comes to which foods they prefer to eat. Make sure to listen to your little ones hunger and fullness cues to help them build strong internal feeding cues as well as a healthy relationship with food.2
To help nurture your childs internal cues, provide meals without distractions such as the TV or other screens.3

Talk To Your Kid About Healthy And Junk Food
I can personally vouch for this. I was always vocal about what is healthy and what is not. My daughter knows chips and burgers are junk and homemade food is healthy and good for her. I however do not ban all junk completely. She has her occasional donut when we go out.
Idea is not to deprive but to enlighten them! Deprivation will only cause craving.
She knows vegetables are good for her. I get looks of surprises when people at restaurants see her asking for and devouring steamed vegetables and preferring watermelon over ice creams.
Use Foods They Like As Vehicles For Vegetables
Some kids may take a long time to warm up to vegetables, especially if they are served as a side on their own. In these instances, incorporating veggies into meals they already enjoy can be helpful.
For example, if your toddler loves scrambled eggs, mac and cheese, or tacos, try adding chopped or shredded vegetables to these dishes. For spaghetti lovers, add some zucchini noodles to the mix.
As toddlers get older and are able to be more active in their meal preparation, offer cooked carrots, peas, sliced peppers, mushrooms, or other veggies when making pizza or toast. Ask them to make a smiley face on top with veggies of their choice.
Incorporating vegetables into your toddlers favorite meals may make them more appealing. Classic dishes like eggs, tacos, pizza, toast, and pasta can all include veggies.
