Can I Freeze Pasta Salad

Hidden Valley Ranch Pasta Salad

You can choose to either freeze the pasta separate from the other ingredients and dressings, or you can also choose to freeze it all mixed up in a single container. Your pasta salad can last about a week in your freezer.

Ideally freeze the pasta salad without the dressing, and mix in the dressing when ready to serve.

What Type Of Ranch Dressing Is Used In This Chicken Pasta Salad

The key to the dressing for this salad is the Hidden Valley Fiesta Dip mix. You use this in place of regular ranch dip mix and the flavor is incredible! I will admit that I have had some difficulty finding it at certain grocery stores, but I have almost always been able to find it Walmart. Since I make this salad many times each year, I just make sure to stay stocked up! When Im at a grocery store where I can find this, I get several so that I can make sure I have it when I need it. Youll find it right next to the other dressing mixes.

There have been a few times where I have been in the middle of making this salad and then realized that I didnt have any of my stockpile left, and I have used regular ranch dip mix in place of the Fiesta flavored one. If you do this, just add a couple tablespoons of taco seasoning or a Southwest seasoning to the dry mix before you add the wet ingredients. It wont taste exactly the same as the real thing, but itll still be yummy! You can even just use regular ranch dip mix its delicious too but doesnt have the southwestern flavor of the Fiesta Dip mix.

When the weather warms up, we love to get our family and friends together outdoors to hang out and enjoy some delicious food. Burgers, lemonade, and watermelon are classic and a given at a Garofalow grill out. These relaxed parties become potluck affairs with our friends and family bringing their favorite side dishes. I dont like to stray too far from classic flavors when feeding a crowd, but I always like to shake it up a bit when it comes to presentation.

How To Make This Blt Pasta Salad Recipe

STEP ONE: In a medium bowl, combine dry Hidden Valley Ranch dressing mix, mayonnaise and sour cream. Use a whisk to mix together. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

STEP TWO: In a large pot, cook pasta per package directions. Drain, rinse the hot pasta with cold water and drain again. Place in a large mixing bowl.

PRO TIP: Rinsing the cooked pasta in cold water after draining is best when doing a cold pasta salad recipe. It stops the pasta from cooking, and it keeps the pasta loose for the salad.

STEP THREE: Add cooked and chopped bacon, red onion, cheddar cheese cubes, avocado, cherry tomatoes, parsley, and romaine lettuce. Then, pour dressing mix over the ingredients. Use tongs to gently toss the salad until everything is well coated.

STEP FOUR: Serve immediately.

Bacon Ranch Pasta Salad Cooking Tips

Hidden Valley Pasta Salad

This bacon and cheese ranch pasta salad is easy, peasy lemon squeezy to make, but there are a few tips Im gonna share with you to help you make it EXTRA awesome.

  • Cook your pasta just a tad past al dente: You dont want to crunch your pasta salad, but you dont want it to be mushy eitherEWWW.. If you cook it just a tad past al dente, and let it dry a little while you cook the bacon it will be perfect.
  • Cook your bacon and pat dry: Cooking your bacon extra crispy , and then putting it on a paper towel, let it set for a little while and pat the top with another paper towel. This will make sure your bacon is nice and crunchy and doesnt sog down the salad.
  • Save the dressing for later:Ideally, you want to add the Ranch dressing less than an hour from when you are serving it. If youre going to a party, bring the dressing with you in a separate container . At the beginning of the party add your dressing and top with the crispy fried onions. Then its PARTY TIME!

When Do You Add The Fritos To The Salad

Dont forget the final step! Just before serving youll want to top the salad with Fritos. They add a lot of crunch and pair very well with the flavors in the salad. When I serve this salad at home, I usually just serve the Fritos separately and let everyone add their own to the top of their portion. That way, any leftovers that we have can be stored without the chips so that they dont get soggy!

What Kind Of Chicken Works Best In Chicken Pasta Salad

I usually use a rotisserie chicken in chicken pasta salad because rotisserie chickens are easy and I love the taste and texture of the chicken. If I dont have a rotisserie chicken to use, I prefer to bake chicken breasts in the oven.

To cook chicken breasts in the oven, place them in a baking dish and brush a little olive oil on them, adding a little bit of salt and pepper. Bake for 30 minutes or until the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165°.

    Variations To This Pasta Salad

hidden valley ranch pasta salad box directions

This is a classic dish served at picnics, but there are a lot of other fun ways to serve it. If you want a spicy kick, add 1/2 cup diced jalapenos and mix it in with the pasta and ranch dressing. You can make it extra sweet by adding chopped apples or strawberries for an afternoon snack or dessert.. If youre in a hurry, mix all the ingredients right in the pot no need to dirty another dish.

You can also add some chicken to this pasta salad to make it a complete meal. You can choose to use rotisserie chicken from the deli, boiled chicken or grilled chicken. If youre trying to cut back on sodium, just substitute grilling for boiling when making this dish at home.

Swap the veggies. Instead of peas, you can substitute green beans or your favorite fresh vegetable. You can also add some halved grapes in with the pasta for a sweet and summery salad.

If you dont like to use bacon, you can also use ham or prosciutto. Turkey bacon or vegetarian bacon will work as well.

Dont be afraid to get creative! Add more spices and herbs to enhance the flavor of the pasta salad. Try using lemon juice and pepper for a light fresh taste, or add basil, garlic powder and oregano for authentic Italian flavor.

How To Make Chicken Bacon Ranch Pasta Salad

Cooking your chicken breast is the very first thing you will need to do. I prefer to grill mine or cook on my indoor grill. It will work just as well, either cooking or baking on your stove. Just make sure that you cook your chicken breast until they are no longer pink in the center or 165 degrees Fahrenheit. Pull out that thermometer.

Let your chicken breast cool to at least room temp before chopping into bite-size pieces. Make it easier on yourself. Burning your fingers is not worth it.

Next or while you are making your chicken make your pasta. Following the directions on the box. Please note: that it is best to cook al dente as the Ranch will soak into the paste. Creating a delish flavor.

We prefer to use Hidden Valley Ranch season packet and make semi-homemade version. It tastes creamer.

Then, you will want to chop green onion, cucumber, and tomato for flavor and crunch. You could really add any veggies you want into this ranch pasta salad, but these are my favorites.

I think it would likely work well with frozen green peas or even edamame if you prefer! You can substitute for sure. And HEY! You may find veggies that you really prefer more in this recipe.

Mix in your ranch dressing, then add your pasta and bacon. Taste and add salt and pepper if needed.

Also, side note, I like to keep in the fridge for at least 4 hours. We then add in more ranch dressing and stir before serving.
