How To Make Peanut Butter Banana Dog Treats

Healthy Dog Treats – No Bake 2 Ingredient Recipe

For these treats, Ive used old-fashioned oats instead of flour as the base. Youll need to grind the oats a bit to make them finer.

You can see how finely the oats are ground in this photo. There are still a few pieces of oat in the mix, it is not as fine as flour.

  • Run the food processor for a few minutes to break up the oats.
  • Once you have ground the oats into a finer texture, add the banana, egg and peanut butter.
  • Blend until the dough is uniform. If your dough is a bit too dry, add in a tablespoon of water at a time until you reach the desired consistency.
  • Then turn the dough out onto a floured countertop to roll out and cut treats.
  • Place treats on parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 16 18 minutes.
  • To make these treats shiny on top, I brushed them with an egg wash. I dont normally do this, but I wanted to make them pretty for the photos.

If you are giving them away, its a nice touch and it makes them look extra special.

    Organic Plain Greek Yogurt

Provided your dog is not lactose intolerant, plain greek yogurt is included in this dog treat recipe as a source of probiotics and protein.

The brand I used contains six live active cultures, including S. thermophilus, L. bulgaricus, L. acidophilus, Bifidus, L. paracasei, and L. rhamnosus probiotics that aid digestion and keep the helpful bacteria in the gut balanced.

And with its specific straining process during manufacturing, greek yogurt is a great source of concentrated protein and calcium without all of the processed sugars and flavor additives.

    Finding The Right Consistency

The measurements of your add-ins arent as important as theconsistency. You dont want your dough too wet or too dry it should bemalleable enough to roll but not so dry that it crumbles. A crumblydough means your treats will fall apart, and a wet dough will still begooey when it finishes baking.

Add more water to dough thatstoo dry or crumbly. If its still falling apart after the water, addanother egg to bind the ingredients. Super wet dough is an easy fix too add flour by the spoonful until you reach the right consistency.

Hello to the easiest homemade peanut butter dog treats! And to Cashews new favorite treats! Cashew is our pup if you didnt know

He is a little food-obsessed and Im a sucker for his big brown eyes. While we usually buy treats, I love making homemade treats for him for a few reasons:

  • Its a lot cheaper than store-bought
  • I know exactly what is in them
  • Nothing like a homemade treat to make you feel like a good mom!
  • And these pumpkin peanut butter ones couldnt be easier. We always have coconut oil and peanut butter in our house and I usually try to keep a can of pumpkin puree as well. All you need to do it mix it all up, freeze for a couple of hours, and voila, easy homemade dog treats.

One of my favorite treats to give Cashew is coconut oil he absolutely loves it when I put it on top of his food or lets him lick the spoon when Im making something. I love NOW Foods as its organic, unrefined, and cold-pressed, which helps preserve the nutrients when being processed.

    What youll need

How to prepare your peanut butter dog treats

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • Microwave your peanut butter in a microwave-safe bowl until it is slightly runny and mixable.

  • Mix all ingredients until the dough becomes malleable.

  • Put a thin dusting of flour on your surface and roll out the dough into an even thickness.

  • Pop the treats on your ovens middle rack for 20 minutes, or until theyre golden brown and delicious!

  • Store in an airtight container.

  • *A note on xylitol: Scan the nutrition label on your peanut butter jar to make sure it doesnt contain xylitol, a common artificial sweetener often found in sugar-free foods. Xylitol can cause seizures, bloody stools, and a sharp drop in your dogs blood sugar within just 30 minutes of consumption. We recommend using 100% natural peanut butter with no added oils or ingredients.

Storing your peanut butter dog treats

These treats store beautifully in an airlock container for 7 to 10days. Peanut butter dog treats also freeze well and should last up to 6months in the freezer! If you plan to freeze them, use a double-lockfreezer bag, and press the air out when sealing to prevent freezer burn.

    A Look At Whats Inside

Oatsâ No matter what you call it: oatmeals, oatenas or oats, whole grains are good for dogs. Dogs love oatmeal so much theyâll eat it any time of day. Oats have fiber, which can keep your dogâs blood sugar in check, so it wonât get diabetes.

Carrotsâ While giving dogs carrots as a treat may seem strange, they can help keep your dogâs teeth clean by scraping away plaque and tartar, and they can also keep his breath smelling fresh. Check out this meatball recipe for homemade dog treats that come from carrots.

Cheese âCheese tastes great in homemade dog treats. It adds protein and flavor. Some cheeses, like cheddar, are high in fat, so your dog will have energy to do his dog stuff. The calcium keeps your dogâs bones strong. Cheese is a favorite among dogs, so once you give him some, heâll be happy.

Peanut Butter âPeanut butter isnât just for humans. Itâs actually better for dogs than it is for humans. Thatâs because itâs got protein and healthy fats to keep your dog healthy.

Itâs packed with vitamins and minerals like B2, B5, B6, B12, niacin, biotin, pantothenic acid, riboflavin, and folic acid. Vitamin A and B6 are in there, plus zinc, iron, magnesium, calcium, and phosphorus. Peanut butter has a lot of protein, too. Peanut butter has 7.6 grams of protein, so itâll make him strong.
