Bacon-Wrapped Chicken Dog – Easy Chicken Breast Hot Dog – Food Wishes

To make homemade dog food, I use my Instant Pot, but you can use any pressure cooker. To make homemade dog food on the stove, you can check out my recipe for homemade dog food on the stove. You can also make this with a crockpot/slow cooker, just cook the meat first on the stove – then combine it all and let it cook on low for a few hours to let the flavors come together.

First, set the Instant Pot to “Saute” and cook the ground meat. Pour off any fat and once cooled, discard it.

Add the drained meat back to the Instant Pot. Dump in the leftover rice and mix well. If you are using barley, quinoa, oats, or sweet potatoes instead of rice, skip to the next step.

Next, add the bone broth and coconut oil. Stir to combine and let the coconut oil melt.

Then, add in the vegetables. I try to use around 24 ounces which would be two 12-ounce bags or one and a half 16-ounce bags. Mix well.

If you are using barley, quinoa, oats, or sweet potatoes instead of rice, add them now and mix to combine everything.

Finally, put the lid on and close the vent so it is set to Sealing. Set your Instant Pot to “Pressure Cook” or “Manual” mode at High Pressure for 7 minutes.

Allow all of the pressure to release naturally, which should take around 5 minutes. If it takes a little longer, thats okay. Then carefully open your Instant Pot pointing the lid away from you so you dont get steamed.

Let the dog food cool completely before serving it or storing it.

Chicken And Sweet Potato Hash

This is a fun recipe that will taste great and help fight inflammation. For the recipe, gather the following ingredients:

  • 2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breast
  • 3 sweet potatoes
  • 1.5 cups of cooked brown rice
  • Turmeric
  • Fresh rosemary
  • Flaxseed oil

Once you have gathered all of the ingredients, get a large dutch oven or heavy-bottomed skillet. Cut the chicken, sweet potato, and apple into chunks and season with Turmeric, and saute until cooked through. Or, if you feel like going the extra mile, cooking chicken thighs on the grill is also something you can do. Our dogs love grilled chicken, and it will fit this recipe perfectly as well.

Finish the dish off by adding the cooked brown rice, fresh Rosemary, and a drizzle of flaxseed oil.

Vitamins And Minerals In Chicken

A high quality protein with natural vitamins and minerals is essential for healthy dogs in all stages of their lives. Chicken is not only very high in lean protein, but in B3 and B6 vitamins, phosphorous and selenium as well.

Vitamin B3 is an essential nutrient. Your dogs entire body needs it to function properly. Vitamin B3 has been shown to lower cholesterol, ease arthritis and boost cognitive function.

Vitamin B6 is one of the vitamins that is responsible for protein synthesis in dogs. This is especially important for a growing puppy. It also plays a key role in healthy hemoglobin production.

Phosphorus also plays a versatile role in a dogs diet. Along with calcium, it is responsible for healthy bones and bone density. When a dog is deficient in phosphorus, they can experience bone weakness and fractures.

Selenium is a trace element that is known to have many benefits to dog. Some of these include antioxidant properties, improved skin and coat condition, and a stronger immune system.

While these are all are essential to your dogs health, it is important to note that naturally occurring nutrients in chicken may be more bioavailable than dried supplements alone. In conclusion, chicken has many essential and beneficial nutrients that are present in its natural form.

How Often Can Dogs Eat Dehydrated Chicken

While dogs can eat chicken all day, every day, dehydrated chicken should be a treat especially if you use a marinade. This means using it as a method for training, rewards or for simple snacking. Of course the frequency will depend on your dog, how active it is, how often you train/practice and what its dietary requirements are.

But, in general, you should be able to give your pooch two dehydrated chicken treats per day with a fair amount of safety. You just want to make sure that you observe your dogs nutritional and caloric intake.

    Dark Meat Or White Meat

You might be asking, should you be feeding your dog white meat or dark meat? Dogs can eat either kind of meat, but one is better than the other. Dark meat has a bit more flavor due to its fattiness, while white meat is a bit leaner.

This makes white meat the better option, as it will be better for your dogs stomach. However, nutritionally, they are pretty much the same.

If your dog seems to be digesting both types of chicken fine, you can probably feed it either one. Just watch out for digestive issues if youre feeding your dog darker meat.

How Much Should I Feed My Dog

I recommend discussing the amount to feed your dog with your vet, as they can help determine based on your dogs size and weight.

Roxy and Rico are both right around 50 pounds so I give them a ½ cup of their dry dog food and ½ cup of homemade dog food. It helps Rico eat a little faster, and helps Roxy stay a little slimmer.

Transition your dogs food slowly over the course of a week or two so you avoid any potential stomach issues.

    Can You Freeze It

Yes! You can make this in batches and freeze. Will keep up to 3 months in the freezer.

Ive written this in other posts, our largest Dane Zeus, would often loose his breakfast or dinner. It would amaze us as it could be hours later and he would throw up almost his whole meal undigested. But it was heavy with kibbles. We would change brands and he would be ok for a few weeks and then it would randomly start again. We ruled out anything medical that could be going on with his vet. So we checked with our vet and started making our dog food. Weve cut back on the purchased kibbles by half and mix in our Homemade Dog Food. Since doing that, Zeus has not had any further episodes. And weve been making our own food for over a year now! Cant go wrong when you know exactly what they are eating.

As a disclaimer, I am not a veterinarian. If your dog is having similar issues, I recommend checking with your vet first to rule out anything more going on.

I hope your dogs love this Homemade Instant Pot Dog Food with Chicken as much as ours do!

    Cooking The Chicken Breasts

  • 1Place 3 boneless, skinless chicken breasts into a medium-size pot. Spread the chicken breasts out along the bottom of the pot so the meat is not layered. If you do not have a pot large enough to support the chicken breasts, use a deep, covered skillet instead.
  • Make sure that your chicken is completely defrosted if it was frozen. The frozen meat will affect the cooking time of the chicken and could potentially cause the meat to cook unevenly. If it is still frozen, finish defrosting the chicken in the refrigerator before cooking it.
  • 2Fill the pot with water until all of the chicken breasts are submerged. Add approximately 3 in of water to the pot, or more if needed to cover the chicken breasts. Just be careful not to fill your pot with so much water that it bubbles over while cooking. Keep about 2 in of head space to avoid this.XResearch source
  • Do not add any additional seasonings to the chicken, as those may cause your dog to have an upset stomach. Keep the chicken bland, and then pair it with other foods later if you want.XTrustworthy SourceAmerican Kennel ClubThe American Kennel Club is a purebred dog pedigree registry in the United States. Avoid Chicken Meals And By

Responsible dog owners take pride in making sure that their dogs are fed with the most high-quality food. But many dogs can develop allergies to food at any stage in their life.

Dogs can experience a variety of symptoms when they develop a food allergy. Some of these symptoms include:

    • Weakness

If left alone, these symptoms can progress into other more serious health issues.

But why does this happen with regular dog food?

Unfortunately, many of the cheaper foods available to dogs contain by-products and meals such as chicken meal or bonemeal. This type of ingredient may contain bones and other parts of chicken that may not be meat itself, such as beaks and fragments of feathers.

These types of ingredients are considered fillers, and can cause extra gastrointestinal issues.

So why should you feed your dog chicken?

Whole-meat chicken as the number one ingredient in dog food is one of the least common allergens to dogs. Recent studies have shown that as little as 15% of dogs have an allergic reaction to chicken.
