Now this recipe is already incredibly simple but there are a few tips to make it even easier I wanted to share. This recipe calls for diced onions and bell peppers.

Another time saving tip is to use a small food chopper or food processor to quickly and easily chop the onions and peppers.

If you do not have one of these, I highly recommend them. They are such a time saver and you make cooking so fast and easy.

After you have what you need for the Greek Salad, freeze the rest for other recipes. I usually just chop the entire vegetable and freeze what I dont need.

Its so nice to be able to just take the diced onion out of the freezer for recipes. This is how I meal prep. Its so quick and easy and helps get dinner on the table fast.

Learn and how to freeze onions and also how to freeze peppers to save so much time in the kitchen! Lots of the recipes we cook call for onions and peppers so this is such a great time tip that we use frequently.

Whats In A Greek Salad Dressing

A traditional Greek salad dressing is really a Greek vinaigrette as it contains olive oil, red wine vinegar, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, minced garlic cloves, dried oregano and salt and pepper.

You can use virgin or extra virgin olive oil, but I think more important is the red wine vinegar, Dijon mustard and spices you use. Opt for quality ingredients like this organic red wine vinegar and Dijon mustard. And you know Im a big fan of Simply Organic spices .

Once youve got all your ingredients in a bowl, its as easy as whisking it all together. Then drizzle it on my Greek Salad, Greek Chicken Salad, or use it as a marinade on Greek Chicken Kabobs.

Greek Salad Tips And Variations:

  • No lettuce: I know, I know, youre thinking a salad with no lettuce? But traditionally in Greece, their salads are served with no lettuce.
  • Feta Cheese: The crumbles of cheese throughout the salad are a favorite of mine. However, if you are going for an authentic Greek presentation, place large chunks or blocks of feta cheese on the top of the salad instead.
  • Serve with: In Greece you will find this salad served with bread. Also, I love the contrast of pairing this cool, fresh salad with a creamy warm soup. Something about the yin and yang of that is just so perfect!
  • Storing: Eat it up quick because this salad will not last long in the refrigerator. Once prepared, the salad will last a maximum of 2 days, but you will probably experience sogginess. Instead, I suggest you store the ingredients separately from the lettuce and mix up individual serving sizes as needed.
  • Optional Ingredients: Sometimes I love to just keep adding on to this delicious Greek salad. Capers, lemon or lime juice, shrimp or chicken, red onion , avocado . Really the options are limitless with this extremely versatile flavor base.
  • How to store olives: Unopened your olives can be stored at room temperature up to 2 years. Opened olives need to be refrigerated in their own liquid in a non-metal container. When stored properly, they will last for 1 to 2 months after opening.

Storing Homemade Greek Salad Dressing

Greek Salad Recipe with Creamy Dressing

Keep dressing stored in a glass jar, fastened with the lid, in the refrigerator. Its normal for the oil and vinegar to separate during storage just shake the jar to incorporate everything again. Its also normal for it to solidify a bit Again, an easy fix. If your dressing does firm up, let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes and then shake to incorporate again. How long does Greek dressing last in the fridge? If stored properly, this homemade dressing will keep for up to 1 week.

How To Use This Ladolemono Greek Dressing

Like I said earlier, you can use this dressing or lemon vinaigrette in a variety of ways:

  • As a salad dressing. This is the obvious use here, and you cant go wrong with that. I just used it on my favorite grilled chicken salad. You can use it on almost any green salads or maybe even Mediterranean orzo salad or Italian pasta salad in place of the typical dressing used. I mentioned earlier that the dressing for a traditional Greek salad is typically a splash of good olive oil and red wine vinegar. And often times, bottles of both condiments are set on the table so you can use as much oil and vinegar and you like. That said, if you want to use a couple of tablespoons of this lemon and olive oil dressing instead over your Greek salad you absolutely can!
  • As a sauce. You can drizzle ladolemono over grilled fish, chicken, or even grilled vegetables. I dont mind a little over my quick pan-seared salmon or trout, for example.
  • As a marinade. Earlier, I shared a yogurt based chicken marinade, and this lemon dressing can work very similarly. When using a lemon-based marinade for chicken though, I typically allow no more than 2 hours of marinating in the fridge.

Is Greek Salad Dressing Good For You

This easy homemade Greek dressing is definitely good for you. The primary ingredient is hummus which is made from chickpeas loaded with plant-based protein, as well as plenty of vitamins and minerals. Another reason this easy homemade greek salad dressing is so good for you is that it contains no added sugar or oil.

Theres more than enough incredible flavor in the hummus, lemon juice, and garlic, so adding extra sugar just isnt necessary. Similarly, the creamy texture of the hummus means theres no need to blend oil into the dressing to make it thicker and smoother. Instead, water is used to thin out the creamy Greek salad dressing which massively lowers the fat levels and calorie count.

One of the reasons salad dressings are sometimes thought of as unhealthy is because people over-use them. The primary ingredient in many dressings is oil and if you drench your salad in tablespoons and tablespoons of the stuff, you could end up consuming more calories than you would if you ate a cheeseburger.

As long as you stick to a sensible drizzle serving, like you can see in the pictures, this hummus salad dressing is truly good for you.

Creamy Greek Salad Dressing With Feta

This creamy greek salad dressing with feta cheese is the perfect match for an authentic greek salad. Ready in 10 minutes, take your salads to the next level with this delicious dressing weve developed here at Mediterranean Living.

In our house I am the condiment and dressing guy. I love topping vegetables with all kinds of flavorful creations. This creamy Greek feta dressing is my new go to favorite for a dip with vegetables or chips. I also love it on our Greek Chop Chop salad.

When most people think of feta cheese they think of Greek salad, but feta can be used to make dressings for salads as well. Feta cheese has been consumed for thousands of years in the Mediterranean and is a centerpiece of the Mediterranean Diet. In Ancient Greece it was believed that the god Aristaios, the son of Apollo, taught the Greek people cheese making and the cyclops Polyfimos was the first to make feta. Although the origins of feta cheese come from myths, there is no doubt that feta is Greek.

Ingredients For Our Homemade Creamy Greek Salad Dressing

This creamy dressing is chock full of fresh ingredients. It is thicker than our recipe for authentic Greek salad dressing and it coats your vegetables with a ton of flavor. Here is what you will need:

  • Bell peppers.
  • Dried Greek oregano.
  • Olive oil.

The feta cheese gives this dressing most of the creamy texture and an incredible flavor. Olive oil also makes the dressing creamy. If you add the olive oil at the end and drizzle it into the blender slowly, it will emulsify and give the dressing an extra creamy texture.

What Is Greek Salad Dressing

Greek salad dressing is typically a basic vinaigrette of quality olive oil, red wine vinegar, and dried oregano. Sometimes fresh lemon juice is added. It is easy and fresh and lets the flavor of salad shine.

We ramped up the flavor profile of traditional Greek salad dressing by adding several other ingredients. This is a creamy version that tastes great on salad, pasta, steamed broccoli and other vegetables, or used as a dip. Sop this dressing up with a slice of sourdough bread. So good!

Tips For The Best Creamy Greek Salad Dressing

Creamy Greek Dressing
  • Use good olive oil! Not all olive oils are created equal. The California Olive Oil Council has a certification program with strict standards. It is an easy way to be assured that you are buying 100% extra virgin olive oil.
  • Use a good quality feta cheese. The kind that comes in whole blocks or wedges. Even better, purchase blocks of feta that come soaked in brine. The flavor is far superior to crumbled feta.
  • Use dried oregano. I know it may sound like fresh oregano would be better but the fresh herb will turn dark and dingy in this dressing.

Creamy Greek Feta Dressing

Today, were making Creamy Greek Feta Dressing!

This dressing is vegetables new best friend. With just a handful of ingredients and a mini food processor, we have a rich, creamy, savory dressing loaded with feta cheese and bursting with fresh Mediterranean flavor.

So, lets get to it!

Theres really not much to do when it comes to this recipe. Were going to throw everything in a food processor, hit the button, and the recipe is complete. Easy breezy. But, what makes this dressing special is all of the thoughtfully gathered ingredients that get thrown into that food processor.

For the creamy components in this dressing, were going to use some buttermilk, some sour cream, and some savory feta cheese. Feta cheese is, without a doubt, my favorite cheese. But the strong, acidic smell or salty taste can sometimes turn people off from feta. To balance out those strong properties, were going to use the creamy tang of both sour cream and buttermilk to mellow this aggressive cheese.

To add a totally different kind of tang and acidity to this dressing, were going to add some red wine vinegar and lemon juice to the party. The red wine vinegar gives us a robust and zippy acidic kiss while the lemon gives us sweet and sour acidity. It may seem like overkill to use both, but trust me. This dressing is all about the balancing act.

You guys are gonna love this one. I cant wait to hear what you think!

I hope you enjoy. And, lets eat!

Greek Salad Dressing Recipe

This homemade Greek salad dressing is incredibly simple, but packed with fresh, tangy flavor. Bonus, it is gluten free and soy free, so if youve got those dietary restrictions, weve got your back. Heres what in it:

  • Extra-virgin olive oil: Since this is the base of the dressing, make sure you use a really high quality brand.
  • Red wine vinegar: We prefer red wine vinegar over white, due to its deeper flavor.
  • Lemon juice: This adds a bright, tangy flavor. Use fresh!
  • Honey: This adds a very subtle sweetness to the dressing and helps balance out the acidity from the vinegar. Dont skip it.
  • Mustard: Weve tried stoneground, yellow, and Dijon in this dressing. Dijon is our favorite, but either of the other two can be subbed in if thats all you have.
  • Garlic: Freshly minced garlic adds just the right amount of zing.
  • Seasonings: Dried oregano, salt, and pepper.
  • Feta cheese : Sometimes we add some crumbled feta cheese to the mixture, depending on what were using it for.

What Is Greek Salad Dressing Made Of

Kitchen Simmer: Creamy Greek Salad Dressing

Salad dressings are one of the easiest things to make from scratch. All youve got to do is get the right balance of ingredients, mix them together and youre good to go.

This easy vegan Greek salad dressing uses a combination of creamy hummus, zingy lemon juice and flavor-packed garlic to bring even the dullest salads to life. I used my 5 ingredient lentil hummus recipe because I thought the bright lemon juice would perfectly contrast the earthy flavor of the lentils. But feel free to use whatever type of hummus you have on hand.

Although the title says 3-Ingredient Creamy Greek Salad Dressing, there are technically 4 ingredients in this dish. The final ingredient is water which youll need to thin out the simple Greek salad dressing so you can pour it over the salad. But I think we can all agree that water doesnt really count as an ingredient, right?

The Best Homemade Greek Dressing

Classic Greek vinaigrette is bright and tangy.

Oil, vinegar, and mustard combine beautifully with lemon and spices, making a dressing that is rather thin and light but also quite bold. And while this Greek dressing adds vibrant seasonings and a great bite to the salad bowl, it does so without overpowering the freshness and flavors of the other salad ingredients.

It is made with just a handful of simple, gluten-free pantry staples, and even stays good for up to 3 weeks in the fridge.
