Roast The Bones And Vegetables
Now that your bones have been blanched, drained, and rinsed, its time to preheat your oven to 450 degrees F. Transfer the bones and vegetables to the roasting pans. Avoid piling them all on top of each other- use two roasting pans, if necessary. Roast for 30 minutes before gently tossing the bones and vegetables, and roasting for an additional 15-30 minutes more.
Why roast bones for broth? Roasting equals flavor! And we love a little added flavor, right? This step in an easy way to brown and caramelize your bones without a lot of added work. Do you want to char or burn your bones? No. But, nice, deep browning? Yes.

Recently, I was a guest on Good Morning America where I talked about easy food swaps that can help you satisfy your cravings while still helping you lose weight. One of my featured recipes was this French Onion Soup!

Bone Broth Based Chunky Beef And Vegetable Soup
Add more water if you need to cover all the ingredients.
Cover and slow simmer for 3 to 4 hours.
While the soup with the bones slow cooks, youll notice a layer of fat and a kind of brownish foam appearing on the top.
Remove this with a spoon or you can do what I do which is to use a large strainer. just make sure to wash the strainer with hot water to get rid of the oil on it.
Cook the beef broth vegetable soup until the root vegetables and beef are tender.
The broth consistency depends on how thick or thin you want it, there are no thickeners like Coconut milk, the broth will be thin even when its reduced.
check to make sure there is enough salt and serve warm.

How To Store Bone Broth
Lets discuss storage and freezing.
I like to store my broth in sealed jars or freezer-safe bags ziplock bags. These are my favorite glass storage jars to use when freezing. Theyre tall and skinny and great for deep freezers. When storing in the refrigerator, however, I usually keep leftovers in a pot with a lid as it is so much easier to reheat.
How long will leftover bone broth last?
Broth stored in the refrigerator will keep for 4-6 days while broth stored in the freezer will keep for at least 4-6 months.
Before storing or freezing always
Before storing its super important to cool your broth to room temperature. Ideally, you want to do this as quickly as possible to prevent any chance of contamination. The easiest way to do this is by adding a couple of handfuls of ice to the pot, covering, and waiting for the broth to cool. The ice will help expedite this process.
Or, as suggested by a reader, fill your sink or bathtub with a few inches of cold water. Place the pot in the cold water and allow the broth to cool to room temperature.

So, for a good-flavored broth that’s also rich in protein and gelatin, select a wide variety of bones that include some joints as well as meaty bones.
- For beef bone broth and beef stock, use knuckle and neck bones, shanks and oxtails. You can also use marrow bones, too. But, be careful, as too much marrow makes for poor flavor, greasy texture and no gel.
- For chicken bone broth, use a whole chicken, chicken feet, the frame of a roasted chicken, or chicken backs and wing tips. You can even make it using only chicken feet.
- For turkey bone broth, use the frame of a roasted turkey, turkey backs, wing tips and feet, if you can find them.
- For pork, use ham hocks and pork neck bones. If you’re lucky enough to find them, you can also use pork trotters, too.
How To Use Homemade Bone Broth
Traditionally, people sip bone broth on its own or with herbs and a sprinkle of sea salt for flavor. In this way, it’s primarily served as a restorative tonic.
