Things To Keep In Mind When Feeding A 2

  • Make sure that your 2-year-old is eating 3 square meals a day along with 1 or 2 snacks tucked in between.
  • As a two-year-olds digestive system has matured enough, he can eat what the rest of the family is eating. However, please practice caution as some foods are not safe for them such as chunks of peanut butter, whole nuts , whole grapes, seeds and large chunks or quantities of any meat etc.
  • It is now safe to feed your babys cows milk.
  • You can also introduce a whole egg to your baby but make sure it is fully boiled.
  • Make meal-times a priority, sit together and eat with your baby to encourage him to eat more and also to help social skills.
  • Do not fixate on how much your baby is eating.
  • You can continue to breastfeed your two year old before breakfast and after dinner.
  • Avoid giving your children any fizzy drink or artificially flavored fruit juices.
  • Encourage your child to only chew small portions.
  • Dont make it a habit to feed him by yourself. Let him take the initiative to learn how to eat.

Still, keep in mind that sesame seeds, which are used to make sesame butter, are among the top 10 most common food allergens, accounting for 17% of food allergies in children. Only 2030% of affected kids outgrow it .

For this reason, be sure to introduce this and other sesame-containing foods to your child in very small amounts and watch for common reactions like hives and vomiting .

How Do You Know If Your Baby Is Ready For Solid Foods

Babies are usually ready to start solids between the ages of 4 to 6 months of age though many experts, including the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend waiting until 6 months.

Ask your child’s pediatrician if your baby is ready for solid fare. A few signs that your child may be ready for her next big meal milestone include:

  • Good head control. Little ones who can hold their heads up while sitting in a high chair are likely ready to try solids.
  • An interest in eating. Your baby may open her mouth when you hold food near her or show an eagerness to sample what youre eating.
  • Ability to move food to the back of throat. If your baby seems to be pushing food back out of her mouth with her tongue, she may not be ready to swallow solids yet.

Some parents opt to introduce solids in purée form, while others follow a baby-led weaning approach. With baby-led weaning, babies who are at least 6 months old are introduced to solids through soft, gummable finger foods instead of purées or mashed-up foods.

The recipes below follow a traditional schedule purées first, followed by soft, bite-sized finger foods once baby has improved her pincer grasp but if you’d prefer to try baby-led weaning, these delicious meal ideas can help you get started.

Baby Food Recipes 6+ Months

Offering a 6 month old baby healthy, flavorful foods is a great way to set them up for success when starting solids. Some babies will show more interest in food than others, so dont worry if your baby takes a month or so to get into foodor dives right in from the start!

  • Sweet potato puree
  • Zucchini puree: Blend any cooked zucchini until smooth, adding a little water if needed.

TIP: You can feed these purees to baby or offer them on a preloaded spoon so baby can feed herself. You can find the full information on the baby led weaning style of feeding here.
