An Antipasto Platter In Cheese Log Form

Easy Cheese Ball Recipe With Cream Cheese, Bacon & Green Onion (Low Carb, Gluten-Free)

I just love the colours in this. Even making it brings on the holiday cheer look at all those colours!

Weve got salami, olives, chargrilled peppers , cheese, and a nice hit of freshness from minced green onion.

Add a good dose of Italian seasonings I like to make my own simple mix here but you can absolutely substitute with an Italian seasoning mix then simply mix it all together, scrap into a loaf pan or freeform it into the shape of a log and refrigerate.

The refrigeration time is to firm it up so it can be turned out onto a platter and also to give it time for the flavours to meld. Its terrific made on the day, but its even better the next day and the next and the next!

How To Make A Cheese Ball:

Making a cheese ball is SO EASY! Once you make a homemade cheese ball, youll never purchase store-bought again. You just cant beat a homemade cheeseball!

  • In a mixing bowl, combine all of the cheese ingredients until well incorporated: cream cheese and sour cream, bacon bits, shredded cheese, green onion, walnuts, poppy seeds, and seasonings.
  • Finely chop the cheese, walnuts, green onion for the coating .
  • Shape cheese ball and coat generously with the topping mixture and refrigerate until ready to serve.
  • Cooks TIP: For easier mixing, first, beat the cream cheese and sour cream with a mixer, then stir in remaining ingredients with a spatula or wooden spoon until well incorporated.

    Holiday Cheese Ball Wreath

Bring your outdoor holiday wreath inside with this festive and easy appetizer. Use a small Bundt pan to form a wreath shape, or roll the mixture into a ball or log. For a cheese ball worthy of any big gathering, skip the Bundt pan and colorful garnish and roll the ball in toasted sliced almonds instead.

Ways To Kick Up Your Velveeta Cheese Log

    Cheese Log

While I think our family’s Velveeta cheese log recipe is the best, try these variations:

    • Black Olives. Add chopped black olives with the green chiles inside the cheese log. Or replace the chiles with olives.
    • Roasted red peppers. Dice sweet roasted red peppers to use instead of green chiles. Or mix them together for a festive green and red cheese roll effect for Cinco De Mayo or Christmas.
    • Chili beans. After making the cheese log, drizzle with warm chili beans. Yum!
    • Jelly. Spread fig, jalapeño, or plum jam onto the cream cheese layer before rolling for a sweet, tangy surprise.
    • Bacon. Add crumbled bacon inside the roll with the diced green chiles for a yummy salty crunch. Everything’s better with bacon, right?!

This wonderfully creamy, bright and savory cheese log is infused with fresh herbs and lemon zest then rolled in crunchy pecans for an utterly addictive spread that everyone will love. Tips For Making This Recipe

Dont skip grating the cheese yourself! The extra flavor and texture are just right for this recipe.

I used sharp cheddar, but medium cheddar would work just as well.

To save time, buy your pecans in pieces so you dont have to spend time chopping them up!

Use a butter knife to serve, and be sure not to leave out at room temperature for longer than 2 hours.

How To Make This Cheese Log

    • First, add your fresh herbs to a medium bowl and whisk to combine. Remove ½ tablespoon to use in pecan coating this ensures we have herb goodness inside and out. . Next, we stir in the the lemon zest and garlic to the fresh herbs.
    • I love fresh herbs in this cheese log for special occasions but I realize it can be a pain to get just 1 ½ teaspoons worth of a fresh herb if you dont grow them so Ive also included the dry herb substitutions in the recipe. The general rule of thumb is you need & frac13 less dry herbs than fresh herbs.
    • Next, add goat cheese and stir to evenly combine. I buy my goat cheese at Costco but it can also be found with the specialty cheeses at your grocery store. If you can only find goat cheese that comes in a different size other than specified in the recipe, dont stress about it, just adjust the other ingredients accordingly.
    • Add this cheese mixture to a large piece of plastic wrap, and form into the shape of a log. Wrap in plastic wrap and freeze 20-30 minutes. We want the cheese log slightly firm so it holds its shape but is still soft enough for the Coating to be pressed into it.
    • Line counter with a large piece parchment paper. Add pecans and reserved herbs and stir to combine. Spread Coating into a single layer square a little larger than the length of the cheese log then add cheese log to the edge of the Coating and roll in Coating.

The cheese log can be refrigerated at this point until ready to serve or serve immediately.

How To Make A Homemade Cheese Ball

Combine ingredients. Beat cream cheese until smooth, and then mix in the remaining ingredients. Remember that high quality ingredients make a high quality cheese ball. Buy block cheese instead of pre-shredded cheese!

Form the cheese ball. Use a spatula and your hands to form the mixture into a ball. Be sure to spray your hands with non-stick cooking spray to prevent the cheese from sticking.

Coat in nuts. You can use whatever type of nuts you prefer, just be sure to chop them finely. To coat in nuts, hold the cheese ball in one hand and use your other hand to gently scoop the chopped nuts and press them onto the ball.

Chill. Wrap the cheeseball in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour before serving.

What Is Velveeta Made Of Anyways

In the early 1900’s, Velveeta was invented to use up misshapen Swiss cheese wheels. Cheese wiz Emil Frey combined whey into the melted cheese to formulate Velveeta, named for it’s velvety texture. Sounds delicious, no?

In 1927 the company was acquired by Kraft Foods. Over time the formula changed and nowadays, there is no actual cheese in Velveeta. In 2002 the FDA sent a letter to Kraft telling them to change the name from cheese spread since Velveeta doesn’t actually have cheese in it.

    So now we know!

    A Festive Christmas Appetizer Idea

Bringing on some Christmas cheer with this festive Italian Cheese Log!! Its a far cry from your usual cheeseball with a handful of token flavourings. This one is jam packed with flavour. loaded with Italian flavours!!

The secret ingredients in this are finely chopped salami and sun dried tomato. Taking the time to mince the salami really makes a difference because then its all throughout the cheese log nobody wants to be that person who takes a giant scoop of dip only to find its completely devoid of salami!

As for the sun dried tomato well, I contemplated putting it in the cheese log, but I simply couldnt resist how great it looks when piled on top. Add a few sprigs of rosemary, and it just looks so fabulously festive its a perfect Christmas appetiser for sharing!!

    Cheese Board In A Bite

    PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese

I must admit something here. The first time I made thisI was not expecting company. The smell of sizzling bacon, shredded cheesethis turned an ordinary snack time into a special occasionthat maybe also accidentally turned into dinner.

I kept going back for another savory, bacon-y, lip smacking taste. And then another.

    And another.

And I think you will too!

The simple magic is making sure every mouthful is bursting with flavor by incorporating the bacon and chive combo into the cheese mixture and using it as a festive topping that looks-and tastes delicious. Each and every creamy, cheddar-y bite is perfectly packed with fresh chives and tiny, salty, bits of bacon. So. Good.

A little chill time takes the flavors to the next level and makes this bacon-crusted beauty easy to slice and share. I cant wait for you to make it! Its like having all the flavors of a perfectly curated cheese board in one irresistible bite. Also, I didnt even know that bacon was missing from my cheese plate Now I know.

    Enjoy Linds x

    Blue Cheese Cheese Log

One of the best things about cheese it that it can easily be molded into log form and foods shaped like logs always mean that you’re in for a good time. This version balances the nuttiness of Swiss and the pungency of blue with sweet dates and smoky bacon. If logs aren’t your thing, you can always roll this into a ball, too.

What Can I Use Instead Of Nuts

Nothing stays quite as crunchy as nuts on a cheese log or cheese ball, so I recommend not substituting unless you need to for nut allergy reasons. If thats the case, you can try panko toasted with a little butter like I do in my bruschetta cheese ball recipe or toasted sesame seeds, crushed crackers, crushed pretzels or crushed potato chips or a combo. I recommend adding these coating options last minute so the stay crunchy. You can also add dried cranberries, cherries, etc.
