Figuring out how spicy to make this simple syrup can be challenging. It will also vary based on a persons preferences.

I want to preface this by saying I am not the type of person who loves spicy food. I get 2 stars when I order Thai food and I rarely add hot sauce to things.

With that in mind, for some reason, I love spicy cocktails. Ive always loved that little tickle you get with each sip of a spicy drink.

When I order a spicy margarita, I want it to be just that. Spicy! It needs to have a kick and this spicy simple syrup delivers.

Dont be scared! Keep in mind that it needs to be very spicy because youre only using a small amount in each drink.

Using 3 jalapeños works perfectly for me, but you can adjust this based on your preferences.

How To Make A Skinny Spicy Pineapple Margarita

Add the sliced jalapeno and lime slices to a cocktail shaker or quart mason jar and muddle until the jalapeno is broken up and the lime has released its juice .

Next add the remaining ingredients: tequila, pineapple juice, lime juice, orange juice, and agave .

Fill the shaker half way with ice and shake until thoroughly chilled at least 30 seconds.

Often times, restaurant versions will substitute agave in place of simple syrup, which is natural but still loaded with sugar, so skinny margaritas can have upwards of 30-40 grams of sugar per serving.

In contrast, my low carb margarita recipe has less than 1 gram of carbs and 0.3 grams of sugar per serving!

I like my sugar free margaritas frozen, so that is how this recipe is written. If you like it on the rocks, you can definitely do that, too.

TIP: A skinny margarita on the rocks is a good option if you blender is not powerful enough to crush ice.

After salting the rim of the margarita glass, place the ice cubes directly inside. Blend the rest of the ingredients . It will be pretty concentrated this way, so youll need to add a few tablespoons of cold water, to taste.

How Do You Make Spicy Simple Syrup For Cocktails

I love this simple syrup recipe because it only takes about 15 minutes to make! Prepare your jalapeños first. Remove the stems and cut them into slices.

Add the water into a small saucepan. Heat over a medium-high heat until the water begins to boil.

Add in the granulated sugar and stir continuously until the sugar is fully dissolved.

Add in the sliced jalapeños and turn the heat down to low and let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes.

Pour the mixture through a sieve to remove the jalapeños if you want a milder simple syrup. If youre after more of a kick, leave them in.

Let the simple syrup cool to room temperature, then seal the top and store in the fridge until youre ready to use it. I like to store my simple syrup in mason jars for easy storage.

If youre making this in advance, store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a month.

What Is The Best Tequila For Margaritas

I prefer to use tequila that says 100% agave on the bottle this means that no additives, fillers, sugar, or other junk have been added! My favorites are 1800 and Patron. I prefer blanco / silver tequila over darker colored ones because it has a lighter taste and goes well with margaritas.

Darker tequilas have typically aged longer and are better for sipping on the rocks! You can absolutely use any kind you want, though.

The Best Tequila For Margaritas

Blanco tequila is preferred for most . It’s a clear tequila and has not been aged at all or less than 60 days. This offers a true flavor perfect for margaritas.

Choose ‘100% agave’ or puro de agave. This means the tequila has not had anything artificial added which might affect it’s true flavor. Patron Roca Silver is a great high end choice and we love Espolon Blanco for an excellent mid-range priced tequila.
