What Makes A Skinny Margarita
Admittedly, these are not ‘skinny’ in the sense they are low calorie or any of that nonsense. I’ve found that at most Mexican restaurants, ‘skinny margarita’ refers to the way this one is made – with fresh lime juice and agave nectar – rather than with a mix.
Although sometimes skinny can mean that it’s made with artificial sweeteners to lower the sugar content. That is not this recipe.

Pricey for Mexican fair. That’s why it lost a star. This Lupe’s seems to be fairly new although it already had that restaurant greasy smell if you know what I mean. Anyway we went there for dinner. The building is beautiful one of the best I have seen in the Mexican segment,. Greeted promptly at the door and seated. Manager came out with a sample of their fajita beef since we were 1st time guests, the meat was very good and I wanted some. But…. a 1/2 pound fajita which I couldn’t eat if I ordered it was 26.95! Quite pricey, I thought we were crazy at my old job charging 16.99 for one of the same weight! As with most restaurants, along with the high price was more food then I would want to eat in three days let alone just dinner. I was able to get my fajita beef in a couple of Al Carbon tacos which were the meat wrapped in corn tortillas with all the fixings on the sides, with some rice and beans. Charlotte on the other hand got her typical cheese quesadilla and rice. Two 10 inch quesadillas I might add so one came home to the fridge. Service was great everyone friendly but so much food and 50 bucks for two of us to dine. I find it a good place to take company to impress but otherwise there are much cheaper options for a basic Mexican dinner.

What Is Lupe Tortilla’s Restaurant
When we lived in Texas, our favorite restaurant BY FAR was Lupe Tortilla’s, who had the best fajitas in Houston. It’s a fun family-friendly restaurant with good margaritas and great Tex-Mex food and the most amazing Lupe Tortilla Fajitas Grandioso! However, since moving to Florida, the closest Lupe’s is about one thousand miles away, so I had to do something about that!
Signs outside tell customers to expect a wait – if you are in a hurry you are encouraged to come back another time. The wait was always worth it, though, and each location has a children’s play area with sand and toys…conveniently located next to the outdoor bar. 🙂
Houston locals know not to bother with a menu. The regular food is good, but if you know the ropes, you order fajitas grandioso for two without bothering to look at the menu. Honestly, these are the best fajitas you will ever eat. You can get chicken and/or beef in the restaurant, but beef is my favorite. And they go great with a side dish of charro beans!

- These margaritas are strong. And they taste very good. So pace yourself. And alternate with water. They will knock you on your ass if you drink too many.

What Can You Mix With Tequila
I love using blackberries in cocktails, so I made it the way I like with blackberries as the fruit and grapefruit as my citrus. If it were summer time you could use strawberries and lime or raspberries and orangeits totally up to you.
What you basically need is a liquor, a fruit and a citrus. Then you can pick whatever herb you want to use for the accent flavor, in this case I used sage.

So what Im saying here is this drink is more like a method that you can use to make many different fruit cocktails, just by switching the ingredients to what you have on hand or whats fresh and in season.
We also have to talk for a second about this Black Barrel Tequila. It actually tastes very similar to whisky, since its aged in charred barrels where it picks up whiskey notes and then transferred to toasted oak barrels where it picks up a smooth, whiskey finish.
Why am I telling you all this? Because to tell you the truth, tequila isnt my go to booze. I like it, love a good margarita, but Id probably pick a bourbon or whiskey if someone offered me a drink.
But this Black Barrel is one tequila that I might order on the first round and I especially like trying to swap it out in a whiskey or bourbon recipe for a different flavor.
