How To Make Red Sangria Recipe
Does Sangria Need Brandy
Traditionaly no alcohol is used except the wine. If you want your sangria to pack more of a punch, you can add a quarter of a cup brandy per bottle of wine .
Usually brandy is added to recipes that require a lot of orange juice and soda. This recipe requires the juice from 1 orange and no soda or ice, so the alcohol of the wine is enough to make a light and refreshing drink.
Best Fruits To Use In Sangria
Since Sangria tastes amazing chilled for longer time, you want to use sturdy textured fruits. You dont want them disintegrating in the drink.
My favorite sangria fruits are Oranges, apples blueberries and strawberries. Firm peaches and nectarines also work well.
To bring in Hawaiian island feel and flavor, try it with pineapple chunks. Wine soaked pineapple chunks are purely gourmet

Tips For Making Red Wine Sangria
- The type of fruit you use in a sangria recipe will have an impact on how long you allow the mixture to sit. For example, citrus fruits, firm apples and stone fruits hold up well in the wine, whereas softer fruits like berries, may start to get mushy if you allow the mixture to sit for a day or two.
- If you choose a sweet red wine blend, you will not need to add additional sugar to the Red Wine Sangria. If you do use a dry red wine, you will want to add about 3 to 5 tablespoons of sugar to your Sangria mixture. Just give it a taste and add additional sugar as needed.
- Use a clear plastic or glass pitcher for your sangria so that you can show off your recipe and all the delicious fruit!
Can You Keep Leftovers Of This Sangria And Drink It Later
Sort of. I think its best if you have let it marinate for several hours and then drink it all up after that. But putting it in the fridge again for another day of waiting might be a bit too much. It wont be as fresh and tasty as if youd made it the same day.

Should The Soaked Fruit Be Discarded
Theres no reason to keep the soaked fruit in the pitcher. It adds no continued benefit to the sangria and in all reality, its pretty ugly from sitting overnight. Cut up new chunks of fresh fruit: apples, oranges, lemons, and limes and add these to the individual glasses. It not only makes for such a pretty presentation but the alcohol-soaked fruit is an additional prize at the end of the drink.

How To Make Simple Syrup:
Pour equal parts of sugar and water into a saucepan, and heat until the sugar dissolves. That creates a thick, sugary syrup known as simple syrup- used to sweeten cocktails and other beverages. However much water you use, thats how much simple syrup youll end up with. 1 cup water + 1 cup sugar will make 1 cup of simple syrup. For this recipe, you just need 1/2 cup simple syrup. So youll heat 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup sugar together, and then let it cool.

Can I Make This Red Wine Sangria Just Before Serving
No, please dont! Sangria needs to sit in the fridge for at least 4 hours, preferably 8 as a minimum, and even better would be overnight.
Why is this? Sufficient time is required for the fruit and their juices to mix and blend with the wine and any other alcohol youve added. This will ensure that the flavors of the fruit come through upon serving.
Trust me youll be disappointed if you taste your sangria right after having mixed the ingredients!

What Type Of Fruit Goes Best In This Red Wine Sangria
There are so many delightful fruit variations for sangria. My preference here is a citrusy combination. So I start with four large oranges, two lemons, and one lime. Each of these is quartered and squeezed into a large pitcher. Then the fruit, rind and all, goes into the pitcher to await its merger with a bottle of red wine and brandy. The freshly squeezed fruit as its mingled with the alcohol will ultimately add an intense complexity to this lovely libation.

Typically a hard alcohol is added. I used brandy in this recipe for that component. Sometimes a rum, gin or vodka is used.
I also used Triple Sec which is a liquor with an orange flavor!
