Cheesy Easy Scalloped Potatoes Recipe

To make these potatoes as a side dish or as a meal you’ll need potatoes, an onion, flour, salt and pepper, milk, butter, and cheddar cheese. You can also add parsley for garnish on the top of the potatoes if you wish. You can add in chopped ham as well. Adding ham will make this dish more filling if you’re wanting it serve it as the main dish for your meal.

To get started on this easy scalloped potatoes recipe, you’ll want to preheat your oven to 375 degrees. Wash and peel your potatoes using a vegetable peeler.

Get out a cutting board. You’ll need a sharp knife to chop your potatoes into slices about a 1/4 inch thick slices. A mandolin slicer can also make this easier. You’ll also want to finely chop up your onions.

Using a non-stick cooking spray, spray the sides and the bottom of an 8 x 8 baking dish. Start placing potatoes in the dish, alternating layers of the potatoes, flour, onions, as well as salt and pepper. If you’re adding ham to this casserole, add it in here as well. Top the layers of potatoes with cubes of butter.

Heat the milk in a saucepan. Once it is close to boiling, remove from the heat. Carefully pour the milk into the casserole dish over the top of the potatoes.

Top the pan with shredded cheese and bake covered for 50 minutes. This dish may bubble over when cooking, so you may want to place a baking sheet or another pan under the casserole dish while baking to catch any drips.

Special Meals: Family Fun In The Kitchen

    Easy Healthy Easter Snacks

When our kids were little, I had them in the kitchen with me as much as possible. I started something with them called Special Meals. Every week one of our four children would help me:

    • Buy the ingredients at the grocery store
    • Prepare the meal for our family

It was a wonderful experience! They looked forward to it, and so did I.

I had a few childrens cookbooks with brightly colored pictures on hand that they liked to flip through. They frequently picked their main dish from here. Then I would ask them to choose a fruit, vegetable, and dessert.

When preparing the meal, I had them doing age-appropriate tasks helping me measure ingredients, stir, and mix. We had so much fun!

And now all 4 of our kids love cooking and have even prepared delicious meals for our family , including Pad Thai, Korean beef with rice, fried chicken sandwiches, pasta, and more.

I sleep better knowing that my children will be able to survive without me . Plus, I dont have to worry about them starving when they go to college or beyond because I know they can make great meals for themselves.

When deciding what kind of recipe your little one can cook, think about:

    • their reading ability
    • how long they’ll be able to concentrate on a recipe

For example, an 11 year old who has cooked with a parent for several years and can easily read a recipe on their own may be able to make a baked dessert, muffins or a cake etc from scratch all on their own .
