How To Make It Ahead Of Time

Soups are a great make ahead dish.

You can easily store the soup in individual containers, so you can heat up one serving at a time! For individual portions just microwave for 2 to 3 minutes or heat in a small pot over medium heat for 5 to 10 minutes or until warmed through.

Refrigerator: To refrigerate, allow it to cool completely and then store in a sealed container for up to 5 days. You can reheat the soup by pouring into a large pot and heating over medium heat, stirring often, for 20 to 30 minutes or until warmed through.

Freezer: You can freeze it before cooking or after. Prepare your ground beef by browning it, add all of the other ingredients and then pour them all into a gallon freeze bag, or any other freezer-safe container that can be sealed. You can do this before you cook your soup or after it has been cooked.

When youre ready to eat frozen soup, remove it from the freezer and place it in the refrigerator to thaw for 24 hours. If it was not cooked before freezing, pour it into your slow cooker and follow the instructions in the recipe below.

If you have cooked it, you can heat it up in the microwave, on the stove top, or in your Crock Pot.

My Quick Tips For This Recipe

Taco Soup Recipe With Hidden Valley Ranch Packet
  • If you really don’t want to use canned chicken then substitute with 2 cups of shredded or chopped cooked chicken. At least try it once with the canned chicken and I am betting you’ll love it!
  • To increase the spice factor in this soup use hot enchilada sauce or you can even throw in a can of diced green chilies.
  • The recipe as is, is not spicy at all. I always mix my kids’ soup with some sour cream which helps make the spice non existent.
  • Our favorite toppings are sour cream, shredded cheese, and tortilla chips! We love to dip the chips into the soup. Yum.

Taco Soup Recipe Without Ranch Dressing

Years ago I used to make a taco soup that contained hamburger, taco seasoning, tomatoes, and Velveeta. I cant remember the rest of the ingredients, or the directions. I do know it contained no Ranch dressing. I cant stand Ranch dressing! All of the recipes I have found on-line contain Ranch dressing. If anyone has the recipe or something similar I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Paula Deen has an excellent Taco Soup recipe you can try and just ditch the ranch dressing mix if you must. Personally, I think you should try using the dressing mix because the soup is not going to taste like ranch dressing at all because of the other ingredients in the recipe and the ranch dressing packet is used for the herbs and spices it contains as a flavor enhancement for the soup .

Here is one that I got off the internet but dont know where.

1 large can refried beans1 can black beans, drained1 can rotell tomatoes1 small can green chilies1 small onion, diced1 small can of cornspices to taste

Garnish with sour cream, grated cheddar chees, chips and black olives. You can add either cooked beef or chicken.

    Slow Cooker Taco Soup Tips

When you add the chili beans to the slow cooker, do not drain them! If youre using Bushs Beans, theyre in chili sauce, and youll want to add that to your soup. Its an easy way to add even more savory flavor to this already delicious recipe!

When cooking the soup on low for 8-10 hours, do NOT open the lid! Every time you open the lid on a slow cooker, you release some of the necessary heat you need to cook the meal. As tempting as it is, just remember that youll need to add a few more minutes to your cooking time each time you open the lid.

Browning and draining the ground beef is a step that definitely cannot be skipped! If you put the meat in the slow cooker raw, it wont brown correctly. The texture and flavor will not be ideal. Likewise, if you forget to drain the grease from your cooked beef, the soup will have a noticeably greasy texture.

But Whats In A Hidden Valley Ranch Packet

Have you ever wondered whats in this magical packet? Powdered buttermilk, salt, spices, monosodium glutamate, and lactic and citric acids are the heavy hitters in the ranch packet ingredients. With powdered buttermilk, you dont need to have fresh buttermilk on hand, but can still simulate the flavor since regular milk is typically called for. And what exactly are the spices that are usedwell, parsley, dill, and chives are all very common in a typical ranch dressing, along with garlic and onion powders. And I know youre looking at the monosodium glutamate with a side-eye right now, but you dont have to worry. Its completely safe. The general population will have no problem with it, though there are some individuals who are sensitive to it, who probably already know they should steer clear. But msg is added for a reason. Its a major flavor enhancer, providing tons of umami flavor. And what about the lactic and citric acids? Lactic acid controls pH and is used as a preservative. Citric acid is found naturally in citrus fruits. Its also used as a preservative, and flavor enhancer, adding sour flavor to whatever its used in.

You can either go big and buy the larger canister , or purchase the individual one-ounce packets.
