Tips For Making Pureed Food Recipes For Bariatric Patients
Try combining vegetable purees together for more flavourful meals. It is best to cook the vegetables and puree them separately, then combine the purees.
When you blend your vegetables, aim for the consistency of a thick soup or yoghurt.
To save time, you can prepare your pureed vegetables in batches, and then freeze them in individual portions.
To freeze your pureed carrots, sweet potatoes, cauliflower and leeks, spoon the puree into ice cube trays. When the food puree is frozen, pop out of the ice cube trays and store in a storage bag in your freezer for up to 3 months. Then it is easy to take out only the portion size you need.
Silicone ice cube trays work well for make-ahead pureed foods. The food will not stick to the silicone, and many come with lids to easily stack in your freezer.

What Can You Eat On A Pured Diet
At this point in your post-op journey, youre probably craving something different, which is great. Now, you can try things like puréed scrambled eggs, chicken, low-fat refried beans, applesauce and low-fat cottage cheese. You can also have stage one or stage two baby food if you dont want to purée it yourself. Other foods to try are applesauce, puréed bananas, puréed canned vegetables and puréed canned fruits.
You can also continue any of the liquids from the first two stages, but you want to make sure everything is low-fat and low-sugar. Make sure your liquids arent carbonated or caffeinated. Dont use a straw. The reason these restrictions are in place is that straws and carbonation can introduce excess gas to your stomach, which can be quite painful. Remember that your stomach is still healing. Caffeine can also cause stomach ulcers, at which you have a higher risk of developing at this point. Its important to stick to these guidelines. Its for your safety.

Can I Eat Baby Food During The Pureed Stage
Technically, yes, but most surgery centers and dietitians advise against it. First and foremost, homemade pureed food tastes way better than store bought baby food. When you prepare your own food you can season it and prepare it in ways that are familiar to you. Baby food may turn you off from eating and you may lose your opportunity to develop a solid meal structure during this phase.
Second, lots of baby food have added sugar to help make them taste better. Make sure to read the label to reduce your sugar intake.
So in a nutshell, yes, you can eat baby food if you are in a bind, but most surgery centers recommend avoiding it.

These recipes will broadly come under the following three categories.

Many people are alarmed that they can only eat one small bite during their first meal after surgery. This is completely normal. Within a week you will likely reach up to 1-2 tablespoons at a time. Then as the swelling goes down in your new pouch you will be closer to ¼ a cup around one month after surgery.
Please remember these are just basic guidelines and not goals. It is more important to listen to your body. If you are feeling any pressure or pain then this is a signal to stop.
