  • This super simple recipe only takes 7 minutes to prep. All you need to do is make cookie dough and chill briefly.
  • This recipe is safe to eat as it contains no eggs and the flour is heat-treated. By cooking the flour beforehand we eliminate any risks.
  • This makes the perfect festive treat, just switch up the color of the sprinkles you use.

Step 1. Add all of the dry ingredients to a medium mixing bowl.

Step 2. Stir well to combine, breaking up any lumps.

Step 3. Add the wet ingredients to the bowl.

Step 4. Fold the wet ingredients into the dry, and stir to combine. Don’t over stir. Refrigerate the dough for 10 minutes.

Step 4. Scoop dough into your hand and roll into 1 ½ inch balls. Place them on a parchment paper lined baking sheet.

Step 5. Gently press each ball to flatten slightly, to about half its original height. Optional: sprinkle the tops with a little cane sugar or erythritol.

Step 6. Bake until golden brown on the bottom and slightly cracked on the top.

Can You Freeze Sugar Cookies

There are actually so many different ways you can freeze sugar cookies.

Sugar CookieDough: You can freeze the dough before your roll it out and cut it into shapes.

Pre-Cut, Unbaked Sugar Cookies: You can also freeze pre-cut, unbaked sugar cookies. Place the unbaked cookies onto a parchment or silicone-lined baking sheet and freeze the cookies until hard. Then transfer them to a freezer-safe container or zip-lock bag.

When you want to bake the cookies, you can bake the frozen cookies straight from the freezer!

Baked Sugar Cookies: Similarly to the unbaked sugar cookies, you can also freeze already baked sugar cookies.

First allow them to freeze on a baking sheet for about 1-2 hours before transferring them to a freezer-safe container or zip-lock bag.

Iced Sugar Cookies: You can also freeze already iced sugar cookies! Allow the icing to harden completely before transferring the cookies to a freezer-safe zip-lock bag or container. You will want to place wax paper between the layers of sugar cookies to keep them from sticking together.

Tips For Making The Best Dairy

Measure the flour correctly. Proper flour measurement is an often overlooked aspect of baking. In fact, measuring it incorrectly can result in using way too much. Flour should never be scooped or packed into the measuring cup. Instead, you should spoon it into the cup until your desired measurement is reached. After, level off the top with a flat surface .

Use slightly softened butter. Slightly softened butter will take a subtle imprint when gently pressed with your finger.

Dont forget to roll the dough in sugar. This step is easy to forget, but its very important. Youll notice the actual cookies themselves contain less sugar than your typical chocolate chip cookie recipe. Well, thats because the sugar cookie dough will be rolled in extra sugar just before baking. This means your cookies will not be sweet enough if you forget this part. So, dont forget it. These are sugar cookies, after all!

Bake on the middle rack in your oven. I highly recommend baking the cookies one tray at a time on the middle rack in your oven. This leads to even baking. If you choose to bake two sheets at a time , you will notice the middle sheet always has better results.

Drop the pan, repeatedly. Wait, what? Let me explain. When you remove the cookies from the oven, they should appear slightly underbaked in the center and extremely puffy. Like, to the point where you think, Oh no, these need more time baking and why on earth do they look like literal clouds?

What Is The Best Icing For Sugar Cookies

The Best Sugar Cookies Recipe No Eggs

A lot of homemade sugar cookie icing recipes call for corn syrup.

I personally don’t like to bake with corn syrup, so for today’s sugar cookie icing we’ll simply be using powdered sugar and non-dairy milk icing.

To make this icing, start with 1-2 cups of powdered sugar. Stir in non-dairy milk 1 teaspoon at a time until a smooth, thick, but spreadable glaze/icing forms.

If desired, you can use natural or store-bought food coloring to create different colors of icing.

Otherwise, use the icing as is, spread it all over the cooled sugar cookies and top it with sprinkles!

  • Baking powder: Make sure is not expired or too old.
  • Salt: I prefer kosher or sea salt. If you only have table salt handy, I recommend reducing the amount to half.
  • Butter: I prefer to use unsalted butter, but if you only have salted butter handy, you can use it. In this case, skip the salt called in the recipe.
  • Sugar: Regular white granulated sugar o caster sugar.
  • Cream cheese: This is my secret ingredient for the most wonderful egg-free sugar cookies. Do not skip it!
  • Vanilla extract: For optimal flavor, reach for pure vanilla instead of imitation. Even better, try homemade vanilla extract!

How Do Vegans Replace Eggs In Baking

There are plenty of vegan egg substitutes for baked goods, like flax eggs , applesauce, xanthan gum, aquafabathe list goes on. For example, my Vegan Oatmeal Breakfast Cookies use applesauce, or try my Grain Free Paleo Breakfast Cookies using flax eggs. But, if you want to make these egg free sugar cookies vegan, just use vegan butter instead of real butter, and the nondairy milk of your choosing!

I recommend waiting to ice the cookies until youre a day or two from serving. In this case, bake the cookies and freeze unfrosted. When ready to decorate, allow the cookies to thaw at room temperature before decorating.

Once the icing is hardened, package individually in treat bags or add to your homemade cookie trays. The cookies will stay soft for 4-5 days in an airtight container.

Wrap the dough in some plastic wrap and allow it to chill in the fridge for about an hour.

The last step is to preheat the oven, roll out the dough, cut the dough into shapes and bake them until slightly golden brown.

What I Love About These Easy Crinkle Molasses Cookies

I love that these cookies are whole food plant-based compliant* but they definitely don’t test like it.

They’re full of holiday spice and molasses flavors, and just lightly sweet–which to me, is the perfect cookie!

Most vegan desserts use coconut oil or vegan butter, which is not healthy. Here, almond butter and unsweetened applesauce bring a rich flavor, and a moist and chewy texture, without any oil whatsoever.

Those ‘other desserts’ also lean on refined sugars like coconut sugar or cane sugar, that have no nutritional value.

Egg Replacement In Cookies:

Were using a tablespoon of softened cream cheese as an egg replacement. Cream cheese acts as a binder, much in the same way that an egg yolk in a cookie dough does. Use regular, not whipped, cream cheese, and soften it enough that you can easily press your finger through it. Avoid the temptation to melt the cream cheese in the microwave, or else the dough will be too soft and spread too much.

The best way to soften the butter and cream cheese in this recipe, is to leave it out on the counter at room temperature for about 2 hours.

If you’re making pancakes instead of cookies, I use a mixture of oil and water to replace the eggs. Try my eggless pancakes recipe.

In my case, that means pull the butter and cream cheese out of the fridge when I wake up and make coffee. By the time I tell the kids were making cookies, they want to start right away! This way, all of the ingredients are ready to go.

Traditional Royal Icing Vs This Sugar Cookie Icing

  • Traditional royal icing requires a level of skill and practice to get the consistency perfect and for it to harden properly. This recipe does not require any of that skill all you need to know how to do is stir.

    How To Make Soft And Chewy Vegan Sugar Cookies

    First, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

    In a large bowl, add vegan butter, granulated sugar, and light brown sugar. Using a handheld electric mixer or a stand mixer, cream together until light and fluffy . Add the almond milk and vanilla extract, then cream together once more just to combine.

    Next, add the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking soda, baking powder, and salt to the bowl. Mix together just until the flour is evenly incorporated.

    Scoop the cookie dough and roll into 12 balls. Add the extra cup granulated sugar to a bowl. Generously roll each ball of cookie dough in the sugar, then transfer to the baking sheets.

    Bake the cookies on the middle rack in the oven, one tray at a time, for 10-12 minutes. Remove cookies from the oven when the edges are beginning to firm but the center appears slightly underbaked. The cookies will be extremely puffy, which is totally normal!

    Lift the baking sheet 2 feet about the countertop, and drop onto the counter. Repeat 6-7 times. This will force the cookie tops to slightly crack and de-puff while cooling, creating a perfect soft and chewy texture. Allow the vegan sugar cookies to cool before enjoying!

    Can You Substitute Something For The Corn Syrup

    Microwave cookies in just 2 minute| sugar cookies | no egg, no baking powder

    If you want to make your sugar cookie icing without corn syrup, you can substitute honey instead. Just note that your cookies may not have the same smooth & shiny finish.
