For me, I think the best type of yogurt to use for a smoothie is homemade yogurt. Of course, I talk about this above.

Homemade yogurt has less sugar and all the good stuff that you need in yogurt.

If you do need to buy store bought yogurt in a pinch, go plain yogurt or even Greek yogurt. Just make sure it states on the container that is containes active yogurt cultured and add your own fruit.

Sometimes I try and add a few extra veggies to smoothies if I think the kids wont notice them, and this way Ive been able to get spinach and beetroot, amongst others, into the kids diets. For this recipe though, Ive left the spinach out

All 8 of my kids love this smoothie recipe. They really do. I have one that hates smoothies. Fruit scares him and he even admitted that he likes this yogurt strawberry banana smoothie.

It was so good, my Dakota had to finish the leftovers straight out of the blender. I would say this is definitely a winner!

I have a Vitamix and I love it. It is old and is still going on strong. It is quite the investment to get one, but it is one investment that wont disappoint. It will be the last blender you ever had to buy. Amazon has several of them on sale right now for a great price.

Now if a Vitamix isnt in your budget, then I recommend a Waring professional blender. They are going to get the job done. Now they are not as great as a Vitamix, but they are the next best for a much more reasonable cost. Amazon has several Waring blenders on sale right now.

Either way, I know you will be able to enjoy a delicious and smooth fruit smoothie with one of these blenders.

Tips For Strawberry Banana Smoothie Recipe:

  • You can still make an amazing strawberry smoothie without yogurt. Yogurt does help make it extra creamy, but bananas do that too. If you are going to make this recipe without yogurt, I would use less juice in the recipe. The banana and less juice will still make a delicious strawberry smoothie without yogurt. This works great if you have children that dont love yogurt or they can taste that distinct taste even hidden in a smoothie , you can still serve a delicious smoothie.
  • You can use almond milk or any dairy free milk instead of water.
  • If adding juice, apple and orange work great.
  • Protein Powder- add this to get more protein if your kids dont like yogurt.
  • Try fresh strawberries or frozen strawberries. Both are great!

Tips For The Best Fruit Smoothie

Mixed Berry Smoothie:Healthy Smoothie Made with Almond Milk and Greek Yogurt|Vitamix Blender

The frozen fruit in this easy smoothie recipe can be substituted with fresh fruit, if desired. Youll need to add a handful of ice, though. If berries are in season, you can buy them fresh and freeze them the night before!

Also, feel free to switch out the other ingredients as you see fit. Play around with the yogurt flavor you use, or use plain yogurt and sweeten with a little honey or maple syrup instead.

And any non-dairy milk from Silk would pair nicely with the flavors of this smoothie, so dont feel like you have to limit yourself to cashew milk.

Making smoothies at home is super simple if you have a high speed blender. The ultimate question: Ice or frozen fruit?

Personally, I think frozen fruit is the best smoothie base, but sometimes Ill use a combination of fruit and ice.

To make a smoothie with greek yogurt:

  • Start with your ice or frozen fruits/vegetables
  • Add in greek yogurt and any other ingredients
  • Lastly, pour liquid of choice in. There should be enough liquid to cover all of the frozen ingredients.

If you want to make a smoothie without milk or yogurt, you can use water, coconut water, milk substitutes, or even fruit juice.

Orange juice and pineapple juice are great for a tropical flavor, and beet juice can be beneficial for performance.

I often use frozen fruit for smoothies, for two reasons.

Firstly, I find the flavour better if theyre not diluted with ice cubes and so the frozen fruit takes away the need for ice, and second, frozen fruit is cheaper than fresh and just sits in your freezer until you need it, not going off. Im a big frozen fruit fan.

Sometimes I buy bags of ready chopped fruit and sometime I put fruit weve not eaten in Ziploc bags and stick it in the freezer, chopped up small first! Either way, having some frozen fruit in your freezer can save you from many mornings of the kids not having time to get something inside them before the school bus arrives.

Berries: It all starts with frozen berries. Any type will do. As you can see, Ive used a mix of strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries. It was a berry mix that I picked up in the grocery stores freezer section. Any combination works well here. Mix and match your favorites, or use all of one kind if you prefer.

Yogurt: Next, add in your unsweetened non-dairy yogurt of choice. Use plain or vanilla flavored. If using the plain flavor, you may like to add a splash of vanilla extract or ½ teaspoon of ground vanilla to the mixture before mixing.

Banana: To add a banana or not? Ive made this smoothie both ways, with and without a banana, and I must say the one with the banana was the better of the two. I used a room temp banana, which added extra creaminess and made it slightly less icy. It will also add some bulk and extra added nutrition. If you have one on hand, by all means, add it in!

Non-Dairy Milk: Lastly, youll want to add about ½ cup of unsweetened non-dairy milk or water to help get everything moving in the mixer, adding an extra splash or two as needed.

Toppings: Some optional toppings to consider are frozen berries, granola, cocoa nibs, and coconut flakes, to name a few.

I love smoothies. Theyre fast, easy, healthy, and refreshing. This one has just three ingredients but youd never know it based on how creamy, smooth, and satisfying it is.

I got the ingredients at Vons. Look for the new tag at your local Vons or Safeway stores to find new items like these at great values. I used Silk Unsweetened Cashewmilk, Silk Strawberry Dairy-Free Yogurt, and a frozen mixed berry blend of strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries.
