Which Milk Is Best For Making Milkshakes

For a creamy, non-icy milkshake you’ll want to use whole milk. The fat plays a huge roll in keeping the texture smooth.

You can use other milks, including dairy-free milk. If you do use another milk I recommend using less milk and letting the ice cream soften for a few minutes before you make a milkshake.

This will reduce the chances of the milkshake being too ice.

How to Make a Milkshake with a Blender

If you’re adding milk to your milkshake, you’ll want to add the milk to the blender jar first. Then add in the ice cream, and finally the add-ins.

Blend until well combined and serve immediately.

How to Make a Milkshake without a Blender

Scoop the ice cream into a quart size mason jar or a deep glass container and microwave it for 15-30 seconds.

Add in the flavors or add-ins, secure the lid and shake. You can also stir the milkshake mixture with a spoon.

Use the spoon to break up any larger sections of ice cream.

How to make a thick Milkshake

For a thick milkshake use only slightly softened ice cream and the add-ins. You can always add a little milk at a time, to get the desired consistency.

You can also add ice and blend until creamy.

Ingredients Were Working With:

I wanted to keep this super simple and minimal. But, obviously still DELICIOUS! To achieve this, we need just THREE simple ingredients:

  • Strawberries. These can be fresh or frozen but frozen berries is going to result in a thicker and creamier milkshake. I pretty much always use frozen. Side note: you can also swap out the strawberries for other fruit/ berries as desired.
  • Liquid. I usually use oat milk but regular milk OR even just water work well. More than anything, its there to get your blender going so the milkshake isnt TOO thick.
  • Ice cream. My preference is a simple vanilla ice cream but you can use whatever you prefer. Strawberry or even chocolate ice cream will work too! If you want to make a strawberry milkshake without ice cream, I suggest replacing the ice cream with 2 medium FROZEN bananas. It turns into kind of a nice cream situation and while its rather banana-y, its totally delicious! But repeat: it does have a substantial banana flavor.
  • Other Fruits You Can Use

    Spiked Strawberry Milkshake

Now that you know how to make a strawberry milkshake without ice cream or milk, lets talk about some healthy substitutions you can make.

    • Instead of strawberries: They’re the star ingredient, but other types of berries like raspberries work great too.
    • Instead of banana: Keep this recipe healthy and use peeled frozen avocado and add some natural sweetener to taste like honey, maple syrup or a couple of dried dates. Other delicious fruits are frozen mango, melon or cantaloupe.
    • For the liquid: Use coconut water, filtered water or any milk of your choice. To keep it Vegan and dairy-free I love adding cashew or almond milk.

Do I Need To Freeze The Fruits

It’s important to use frozen fruits in milkshakes made without ice cream because they make the shake thick, creamy and super cold.

Also like I mentioned before, frozen banana with a splash of vanilla is like adding a healthy version of vanilla ice cream – perfect for this milkshake recipe.

Another option: If you want, skip freezing the strawberries and use just frozen banana. Or alternatively, use all fresh fruits and add an additional cup of ice cubes to make it cold.

How do I freeze fresh whole strawberries?

Peel the leafs with your fingers, then clean the strawberries in water and dry any moisture with a towel so they don’t stick together when frozen. Then place them in a ziplock bag or airtight container and freeze.

    How do I freeze bananas?

When your bananas are getting ripe, peel the skin and slice them in half or into small pieces then place the slices in an airtight container or ziplock bag and freezer. They last a really long time frozen, so you can store a large amount in your freezer for when you want to make this milkshake and other smoothie recipes. The riper your bananas, the sweeter your milkshake will be.

I mentioned earlier this week, but my daughters birthday was last month, and she is a strawberry fanatic. Everything must be strawberry. Which of course, includes her birthday cake.

The thing is in January, lets be honest. Strawberries arent exactly good. Or February for that matter, despite all of the chocolate covered strawberries that make an appearance around Valentines Day.

And since no other flavor than strawberry will do for her birthday, I have never tried a strawberry cake made from just fresh strawberries. Because right now, Im afraid that strawberry flavor just wouldnt carry through.

So Ive done the next best thing, and Ive found a cake that Ive made several times now full of strawberry flavor. Sure, it uses strawberry gelatin and frozen strawberries, but my daughter loves the cake. And thats what really matters.

I saw that cake, and I knew that I wanted to make this cake for Abbis birthday.

    How To Make Strawberry Shake

How to make strawberry milkshake with ice cream

    1. Rinse strawberries under running water and pat dry. Cut off the stems and chop them to quarters. If you prefer to have a chilled shake, freeze the strawberries for an hour. I used about 2 cups of strawberries . You may use more or less.

    2. Add sweetener of your choice, regular sugar, honey, maple syrup all go well. I add about 3 tbsps of organic sugar. Optional If you have ice cream, add 6 to 8 scoops of vanilla ice cream or strawberry ice cream. As a substitute I used soaked cashews and almonds . I soaked them for 6 hours and also peeled the almonds. If you want a protein boost in your shake add them else feel free to skip.

    3. Pour 1½ cups chilled milk. If using ice cream start with half cup and then add later if required. I used this homemade almond milk with the pulp. You can simply use water by using more nuts at step 2.

    4. Add 1 to 2 teaspoons vanilla extract.

    5. Blend until smooth, creamy and frothy. Ensure there are no grits left in your shake. If you find your shake too runny, add more strawberries. If it is too thick add little more milk and blend.

Pour strawberry shake to serving glasses. With the addition of nuts you get a smooth, rich, creamy and delicious layer over your shake. You wont need any toppings.

This easy strawberry and cream milkshake is made with fresh strawberries, vanilla ice cream, and cool whip! This rich and creamy treat is the perfect ice cream recipe!

We have a long line of ice cream lovers in my family. It is tradition for my dad to take my son out for the frozen treat every time we visit. They take their time at the counter, checking out every flavor, and ALWAYS end up going with a fresh strawberry milkshake. My dad loves to share with his grandson and always lets him have a little more.

This homemade version is as close to the one in the soda shop they love. It is rich, creamy, and loaded with berry flavor. The secret behind this strawberry flavor explosion is fresh berries. In a pinch, you could get away with the frozen version. They taste similar but when you have ripe fresh produce it really makes things shine.

This recipe is also amazing with blueberries, raspberries OR peaches so if you feel like being adventurous break out and try new flavors!

Ingredients For The Perfect Strawberry Milkshake

Making a real thick and creamy strawberry milkshake requires some simple ingredients such as:

    • Strawberries I like to use the combination of fresh and frozen strawberries in this milkshake recipe. Because fresh ones make this milkshake taste fresh, and frozen strawberries give it a creamy and cool texture.

    • Milk I have used full cream milk for making this milkshake. The creamier milk makes the creamy milkshake. But you can also use semi-skimmed milk for this recipe. If you dont like too-milky milkshakes, then simply dilute the milk with chilled water. I wont recommend it though.

    • Sweetener I have used white granulated sugar here. You can also use raw cane sugar.

    • Ice cream It is the key ingredient of milkshake recipes. For this milkshake, I used a vanilla ice cream.

    • Strawberry jam I add about 1 tablespoon of homemade strawberry jam to this milkshake recipe. It improves the overall strawberry flavor and gives it a pretty pink color. Adding strawberry jam is completely optional here.
