Take the water off of the heat once boiling and place the tea bags in the water to steep for 5 minutes. Remove the tea bags from the water.
Pour the tea into your cup.
Add the milk, vanilla and syrup into the small saucepanand bring to a simmer. From here you can pour this into the cup with the tea or use a frother or an immersion blender to froth the milk.
Garnish with cinnamon, star of anise or whipped cream. ENJOY!
How To Use Tea Concentrate
Give the bottle a good shake before use. To use the concentrate, use a 1:1 ratio of concentrate to the milk of your choice. If the tea steeps for too long and is really strong, dilute it with a tablespoon of water at a time if you’re making hot tea. Ice cubes will dilute strong concentrate as the ice melts.
The concentrate can be heated, steamed, or poured over ice with milk to make hot or an iced chai latte.

Chai Tea Latte Starbucks
Most people in the U.S. have their first chai latte experience in a coffee house like Starbucks.
This is how Starbucks makes their version:
Black tea infused with cinnamon, clove, and other warming spices is combined with steamed milk and topped with foam for the perfect balance of sweet and spicy.
While the chai tea latte Starbucks makes is fine, I like to make my own because then I can control the sweetness, type of milk I use, and the overall calorie count of the drink.

Can Your Starbucks Copycat Chai Tea Latte Be Vegan
It is really easy to make your chai tea latte vegan. The first thing that you will need to do is to use a vegan-friendly sweetener such as maple syrup. As an added bonus, the syrup dissolves really well with iced chai latte.
The second thing to do with a vegan chai tea latte is to opt for a non dairy milk. Now, you can use any milk of your choosing, but oat milk is often the top option. It is quite creamy and makes for a more decaded chai latte.
If you are planning on using a commercial chai tea concentrate option, always check the ingredients. Make sure that they don’t contain honey, dairy milk, or any other ingredient that isn’t considered strictly vegan.
Mix In Other Ingredients
Finally, add the sugar, vanilla and honey to the still-warm tea concentrate.
Give it a good stir until the sugar and honey are dissolved.
Then, let the homemade chai concentrate cool down and store it in the refrigerator.
And the best part is, now you can make a delicious hot or iced chai tea latte whenever you want. Enjoy!

Make Your Own Concentrate
In most instances, the best option is to whip up some homemade chai concentrate. The main benefit is that you can make as strong as you want, ensuring that the flavor of the ingredients really shine through. Furthermore, you have greater control over what spices are used in the concentrate.
You can choose to remove ingredients that are traditionally used or add ones that you don’t usually find. It is also possible for you to determine which flavors have the greatest impact or if they will all blend together.
A lot of chai concentrates can also be very high in sugar. If you are trying to cut back on sugar or have certain medical conditions, then making your own version will allow you to be healthier.
Homemade chai concentrate is often a lot cheaper to make as well. This allows you to make it in larger batches and enjoy this drink on a more regular basis.
How To Make Iced Chai Lattes At Home
I made a whole pitcher of chai tea and just added my milk when I was ready for a latte. So to make a pitcher I boiled 8 cups of water on the stove top and added 8 chai tea bags. I let them seep for about 30 minutes and then removed them. I poured the cool chai tea mix into a pitcher and put in the fridge overnight. Dont forget to add your pinch of love.
The next morning I filled my glass half way with the cold chai tea mix and then topped it off with almond milk and ice. I stirred it around and enjoyed my first iced chai latte in my jammies. I really liked the drink before but I loved it after my first sip. Being able to make my own anytime for a fraction of the cost just rocks. Cafe coffee for pennies? That my friends, is some good coffee.

What Is A Starbuckschai Tea Latte Made Of
- Chai Tea Bag: Almost every tea brand has its own version of Chai. I recommend using Tazo or Teavana Chai Tea.
- Water: Youll need boiled water to steep your tea.
- Milk: You have quite a few milk options when it comes to this recipe. The Starbucks original recipe uses 2% milk and the easiest dairy-free match would be soy. However, you can use pretty any milk you like such as almond or oat milk.
- Sugar: Since youll be adding the sugar into hot water, granulated sugar works just fine as it will dissolve easily. If youre looking for a healthy substitute, try Stevia, but since its much sweeter than sugar, add just 1/4 teaspoon to start. You could also substitute honey in a 1:1 ratio with sugar.
- Cinnamon: Ground cinnamon will be used both in the latte itself and as a garnish to give your latte a beautiful finish.
What Is Chai Concentrate
Chai concentrate is black tea brewed in small batches with spices. It’s a quick way to make an inexpensive chai latte without leaving your home. Just add your choice of milk!
It’s not quite the same as a masala chai in terms of texture, but the flavors are certainly there.
Concentrate is not commonly found in the Indian subcontinent, but became popularized in the U.S. in the recent years. It can be found at most grocery stores near the bottled coffees and in the form of syrups to add to drinks.

Homemade Chai Latte Mix
With this method, you get to choose what chai spices you want to add to your chai tea latte recipe. The most common options are cardamom, black pepper, ginger, and star anise. It isn’t uncommon to find cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and even allspice.
As mentioned, though, the main benefit with making your own chai mix is that you can alter the ingredients to your own taste. Select the ingredients that you like the most and add them in a quantity that is suited to your preferences.
Now, technically, you can make a large batch of your own chai latte mix and make it up whenever you feel. For the best flavors, though, you should make it in smaller portions. The flavors of the different spices can fade with time and may not hold up as well when you brew your chai tea latte.
In any case, here is your recipe for your homemade chai concentrate:
- 1 tbs. of black peppercorns
- 1/4 tsp. of ground nutmeg
- 4-inch piece of ginger, sliced
- 5 cups of water
- 4 tbs. of black tea
- 1/4 tsp. of vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup of granulated sugar
- 2 tbs. of dark brown sugar
Step 1: Crush the Spices
Using a mortar and pestle, crush the whole spices such as cinnamon sticks, star anise, cloves, cardamom pods, peppercorns, and ginger. The spices don’t need to be finely ground – simply crush to release flavor and fragrance.
Step 2: Roast the Spices
Step 3: Add Water and Boil Spices
Step 4: Steep the Tea
Step 5: Strain the Chai Black Tea Concentrate
Step 6: Stir in the Final Ingredients
Chai Concentrate From Tea Bags
This is my favorite method because chai tea bags are easy to find and have a long shelf life. You can also use as much of any sweetener of choice or make a sugar free chai latte. You can easily whip up a small or large batch of the concentrate and you only need 2 ingredients, chai and water. I steep 2 tea bags in about ½ cup of boiling water for about 8 minutes. Sweeten with honey, sugar, brown sugar, stevia, monk fruit, Splenda, etc.

Whats In A Chai Tea Latte
The fragrant drink weve come to know and love in the U.S. is made from black tea, milk, spices and sweetened with sugar.
The drink originated in India hundreds of years ago but just started to gain traction in the U.S. in the 1990s.
The western version of chai usually has a lighter and sweeter taste than the Indian version.
How Starbucks Makes Iced Chai Latte
There are 3 ingredients in a Starbucks Iced Chai Latte:
- Chai concentrate,
- 2% milk and
They fill about & frac13 of the cup with chai concentrate, then pour a cup of milk and fill the rest with ice.
Now, if you try to copy this, with most chai concentrates youll get a very weak iced chai latte. Starbucks chai concentrate is not for sale, and most concentrates ask for a 1:1 concentrate to milk ratio.
Dont try to copy the proportions above with 1:1 store-bought or this homemade chai concentrate.
Starbucks also uses triple filtered water for theirs, but I doubt everyone can triple filter their water . If you can, use filtered water for making ice.
Dont have a filter? Boil the water for 5 minutes and wait for it to cool, or leave a jar with water sitting in the counter overnight. That gets rid of the chlorine and makes a better-tasting ice.

The Matter Of Chai Concentrate With Starbucks Copycat Chai Tea Latte
One of the biggest barriers to recreating a near-perfect Starbucks chai tea latte is the chai concentrate. This is the base of the drink, containing both black tea and spices. In most cases, it is found in liquid form.
Now, store bought chai concentrate is readily available. There are also a lot of different brands to choose from, the most common one being Tazo chai concentrate. The problem, though, is that these chai concentrates – Tazo chai concentrate included – are quite diluted.
The Starbucks chai concentrate is very strong and you are unlikely to find anything quite like it in the store. As a result, the Starbucks chai tea latte has a more powerful flavor that is noticeable even with the addition of milk. This is true even when ice is added with the Starbucks iced chai latte,
With regular store bought concentrate, much of the flavor is lost when you add milk or any other ingredients to the drink. Fortunately, there are a few options for overcoming this problem:
