Foods For Picky Eaters From An Occupational Therapist
While no two picky eaters like the same exact types of food, there are some new and healthy foods they tend to accept. And, there are other foods that I can almost guarantee you as an occupational therapist that theyll hard pass on.
That would be the heavily sauced, mixed foods, like lasagna or chicken pot pie, which they can of course learn to eat, but its not where Id start.
Instead, I like to be strategic by serving specific food for picky eaters. That way you can breathe a little easier knowing theyre getting some good nutrients into their system.
Recreate Your Preferred Foods With More Nutrient
You might also consider making a list of the meals you eat often that you know you like and find comforting, such as peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, spaghetti and meatballs, or fried rice.
For example, instead of using white bread for your peanut butter and jelly sandwich, you can try using white whole wheat bread for added vitamins and minerals.
You can also add cooked vegetables to your safe foods in subtle ways. For example, you might steam cauliflower, celery, or carrots and chop them into tiny pieces to mix into the spaghetti sauce or fried rice dishes.
Consider trying new spices and seasonings with meals, such as dried thyme, dried oregano, cracked black pepper, or smoked paprika. Stick to minimal amounts at first so you dont overwhelm yourself with too much flavor.

The Driving Pickiness And Its Remedy
Every fussy eater has a genuine reason for rejecting certain foods. The persnicketiness could stem from early feeding difficulties, poor food choices at an early stage, or late introduction to more solid foods while a child is a toddler.
Sometimes, a combination of these causes could be the source, which results in grander eating disorders.
In other instances, a child or adult suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder could attach increased levels of irritation to many foods.
However, despite the origin of the behavior or the age of the picky eater, one thing is keen finding healthy solutions to help your loved one eat more nutritiously.

With kids, being patient with them and allowing them to play with their food with hopes that they will eventually drop a few spoons into their mouths is common. Creating a food rotation routine counts too a little of broccoli today and a little of carrots tomorrow.
Other times, introducing foods they dislike in steady slower paces proves progress over time. However, in combination, the real goal with these strategies is to get good amounts of these healthy foods into their bellies with the least stress possible.
