  • 1 can of peanut butter
  • about 5-6 Hershey Bars

Peanut Butter Tandy Bars

A wonderful three layer bar cookie. Great for any occasion. Enjoy!

8 squares semi-sweet chocolate


  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F . Grease and flour a 11x 7 inch baking pan.
  • In a large bowl, combine eggs and sugar. Mix until light. Stir in the milk and vanilla extract. Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir this into the egg mixture until well blended. Pour into prepared pan, spread evenly, and bake for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • While still warm from the oven, spread the peanut butter over the top of the bars. Then cool in the refrigerator.
  • Melt the chocolate candy bar in the microwave or over a double boiler. Spread the melted chocolate over the cooled peanut butter layer and refrigerate again until chocolate is set. Cut into squares.

Peanut Butter Tandy Cake

Bring the classic combination of peanut butter and chocolate to a tasty sheet cake!

1 box Betty Crocker Super Moist yellow cake mix
Water, vegetable oil and eggs called for on cake mix box
1 1/2 cups creamy peanut butter
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 container Betty Crocker Rich & Creamy chocolate frosting


  • Heat oven to 350°F . Spray bottom and sides of 15x10x1-inch pan with baking spray with flour.
  • Make cake batter as directed on box using cake mix, water, oil and eggs. Pour batter into pan.
  • Bake 17 to 23 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan on cooling rack 30 minutes.
  • In small microwavable bowl, microwave peanut butter uncovered on High 20 seconds or until softened and spreadable. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto surface of warm cake spread carefully to cover top. Refrigerate cake to harden the peanut butter, about 15 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, in medium microwavable bowl, microwave chocolate chips and butter uncovered on High 30 seconds. Stir continue to microwave on High 10 to 20 seconds longer, stirring after 10 seconds until chips are melted. Stir in frosting.
  • Spread frosting over peanut butter layer on cake. Store loosely covered.

Make The Vanilla Sponge Cake

ingredients needed: all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, granulated sugar, vegetable oil, eggs, vanilla extract, and milk

You can use a hand-held mixer, stand mixer, or keep it really simple and just use a large bowl and a whisk. Having a spatula on hand to scrape down the sides of the bowl is good too.

First, whisk the dry ingredients together then set to the side. In a separate bowl, you’ll mix together the granulated sugar, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. You can substitute the vegetable oil for coconut oil, if you prefer. You can also omit the vanilla extract if you don’t have any or are running low.

Gradually add in the whisked dry ingredients with the wet, alternating with the milk. Whisk together until just combined. Do not over mix the cake batter. Add the vanilla sponge cake batter to the prepared jelly roll pan, then bake at 350ºF for 28-30 minutes.

Tips For Making Tandy Cake

  • Use a 10×15 jelly roll pan with at least 1 sides to bake this cake. Its meant to be a thinner sheet cake.
  • I line the pan with parchment paper or foil so that I can easily pull it out to slice it cleanly. You dont have to line the pan if you dont care about that. But be sure to spray it with cooking spray.
  • A stand mixer or hand mixer works best for this recipe, especially for the first step of beating the eggs, sugar and vanilla. You want that to all be fluffy and light and a mixer does that best.
  • Always use aluminum free baking powder. This will prevent any metallic flavor.
  • Put the peanut butter on while the cake is hot. It will melt in and spread easily.
  • I used chocolate bars instead of chocolate chips because the topping will be softer in the end. Chocolate chips are a firmer chocolate so the topping will be harder to cut.
  • Pour the chocolate over as evenly as possible and then spread lightly. If you mix and spread too much, the layers wont be as distinct.

1 box Duncan Hines Swiss Chocolate Cake Mix
1 small box instant vanilla pudding mix
2 cup buttermilk or 1 1/2 cups of milk
1 cup vegetable oil
1 package cream cheese
1 cup sugar
1 cup finely chopped pecans


  • CAKE: Mix all cake ingredients together and bake at 350°F in 3×9-inch pans greased & floured for 30 to 35 minutes. Grate 5 Hershey candy bars in small bowl. Grate or shave the other bar and set aside for garnishing. You can cut back on the bars if desired by not using as many in the frosting. Beat powdered sugar, sugar and cream cheese. Fold in grated candy bars and chopped nuts. Then fold in cool whip. Let cake layers cool before assembling. Put 1 layer frosting on the plate you are going to serve it on. You can be generous with the frosting between each layer. Then lay another layer on top of the first layer. Put the last layer on top. Proceed on to frost the top and sides. Sprinkle the candy bar on top. Refrigerate.
