Id instead recommend drinking plenty of water and increasing your fibre inake in order to lose weight safely.”

Phase : Roccos Pound A Day Diet

The first phase lasts for 4 weeks or until you reach your target weight. It is based on the scientifically validated method of creating a calorie deficit that triggers weight loss.

  • You will consume 850 calories on weekdays and 1,200 calories on weekends.

The Lose a Pound a Day diet works by encouraging portion controlled, low-calorie meals to help the body burn fat stores and drop the weight. It’s made up of two phases: detoxing in the first week and then a maintenance diet in the second week.

Essentially a high fibre diet , it restricts high-protein foods during phase one:

Too much protein makes the body acidic, resulting in energy crashes and overeating. Although we all need 45g protein a day for cell growth, maintenance and repair, most of us get too much. Portion size is the answer, and the Lose a Pound a Day Diet controls protein portions.

Protein sources like chicken, turkey and lean red meat should be eaten just twice a week on the plan. And each of these portions mustn’t exceed 100g. Refined carbohydrates are also limited on the diet – but some pasta is allowed. Like protein, it is restricted to 100g portions, twice a week. Whole-grains are instead preferred, but again make sure not to overdo it on portion size.

It’s another one of those diets that works fast to achieve weight loss, with many viewing the Lose a Pound a Day diet as a quick-fix method to shed a few pounds for a certain occasion. And whilst it doesn’t necessarily involve starving yourself it is still considered an extreme diet that should not be entered into lightly.

“The ‘Lose a Pound a Day’ diet focuses on healthy eating over fasting, and encourages high fibre, low calorie, and portion-controlled meal plans,” explains Daniel Harris, a BSc Nutritional Practitioner. “While this diet promotes healthy eating, it is not recommended as a long term health plan, as this is an unsustainable way to lose weight.”

How The Pound A Day Diet Works:

You buy specific foods listed, make meals based on recipes provided and follow the diet plan. If done correctly, on average you can lose about 1 pound everyday as the book promises, thats about it. The good news is that there are is A LOT of variety in this diet because there will be a lot of foods youll have to buy which is good/bad. Good because it wont get boring and many of the foods and recipes are delicious. As for the bad, well, well get to that in a moment since there are a number of concerns with this plan, particularly:

1. Serving sizes: Meal preparations are designed to feed about 4 people. If you are a single dieter planning on trying the Pound a Day diet, its better to either divide up the preparation directions into 4, which is going to get a little annoying, mathematically or try to get other people to do it with you like friends or family. Theres no way youll be able to eat all the food youre going to make.

2. Difficulty finding some foods: There are going to be a lot of foods listed in the book that are going to be hard to find. Things such as shirataki noodles & monk fruit. Personally Ive never heard of these foods and odds very few if any stores in your area are going to carry these things. Youll most likely be able to find online, but there will be a number of foods youll have to prepare which leads to the next point

  • You can lose up to 1 pound a day.
  • Lots of variety in what you can eat.
  • A lot of tasty meals.

What Is The Lose A Pound A Day Diet

The Lose a Pound a Day diet is a two-part eating plan that adopts Swiss eating patterns and methods to help aid weight loss. With dieters detoxing for a week before re-introducing foods back into their meals.

The diet was inspired by the Swiss and their healthy food habits which includes the mantra: ‘Build a better body, cell by cell’. This includes feeding their bodies with anti-ageing foods such as good for you greek yogurt and grape juice.

While the thought of losing weight may be exciting and riveting, rapid weight loss could pose several mental health risks for dieters. At first, dieters may feel more alert, energetic and sharp, due to the production of ketone bodies from the fat loss, said Dr. J Shah, chief medical director of Amari Medical. However, if a person is starving if they fast and is losing muscle and water, this may lead to confusion, mind fogginess, anxiety, and eventually depression. A person may even lose their memory, orientation, and develop more systemic complications such as cardiac and renal.

Post diet, dieters may feel they are unable to keep the weight off. They may struggle with feelings of failure, helplessness, frustration, and a resumption of yo-yo dieting patterns, said Dr. Ramani Durvasula.
