Basically, you take a package of smoked sausage, kielbasa, polish sausage or whatever you have on hand and slice or dice it.

  • Potatoes: I love using small, baby gold potatoes for this recipe. They cook fairly quickly, are crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside, and have a great flavor. You can always parboil the potatoes before adding them to the skillet. That will cut down on some of the skillet cooking time. If theres a different variety of potatoes you love, swap the yellow potatoes for those.
  • Sausage: I love chicken apple sausage for this recipe. Smoked sausage, kielbasa, turkey sausage, or Italian sausage would all work great in place of the chicken sausage.
  • Vegetables: Bell peppers and onions are staples in our house, and they add a great flavor to this dish. If you have other veggies on hand, use those. Its important to use your favorite!
  • Seasonings: I keep it simple with basic pantry staple seasonings like Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Any of these can be omitted or adjusted as needed. Another favorite is a sprinkling of Baked Potato Seasoning. Any of the three flavors gives this dish variety and changes things up a bit. If there are other seasonings you love, toss those in, too!
  • Skillet: Youll need a large skillet for this recipe a skillet at least 12-inches in diameter or larger will work well.

This is another fairly easy recipe and its a lot healthier than the one I just gave you. You can cook up this dish and the oven if you want to. Start by preheating the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. You can use raw potatoes for this, and they do not need to be pre-cooked.

While the oven is warming, chop up your peppers, potatoes, and smoked sausage. Drizzle them with olive oil and season with paprika, pepper, and salt. Toss all of your ingredients together to make sure everything is evenly distributed and well coated.

You can put this onto a baking sheet and no additional oil or grease is needed. You do not need a layer of parchment paper either. The oil you used already will be enough to keep the food from sticking to the pan.

Bake for about 45 minutes and give them a stir every 15 minutes. You know they are done cooking when the potatoes have turned golden brown and are tender. How do you tell if your potatoes are tender? Poke them with a fork and see if the fork slides in easily. If there is a lot of resistance, they will need to cook for a little while longer.

  • ¼ cup butter or margarine
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 bottle regular or non-alcoholic beer
  • 2 pounds red potatoes, cut into 1â cubes

Thats not to say you cant do this casserole with something other than potatoes. Rice or noodles would work just fine. But its the potatoes that distinguish it from those other types of casseroles and make it the hearty and delicious casserole it is.

    You make this casserole like soup. My recipe calls for two soups. Three, if you count beef broth. It starts with browning the sausage with garlic and onion, but then when it gets to the potatoes themselves you boil them in a saucepan and drain. After that, its all adding ingredients to the potatoes starting with the soups. You stir in all the seasonings and other ingredients like a soup. The end result, like I said, is more stewie than what you might think of in a traditional casserole, but that amazing blend of cheese in the sauce is so unreal, you wont be able to believe how good it tastes.

    To make this fantastic dish in a slow cooker requires very little adjustment. The slow cooker version can be as simple as tossing in all the ingredients and letting them all cook together. However, what I recommend is, searing the sausage first so you can get that amazing texture. The potatoes can cook in the soups, there is no need to boil them separately. Both methods of cooking this sausage and potatoes are applicable. The slow cooker version is nice for avoiding extra steps and cookware. However, my method is better for time, even though it involves more instructions. Plus the steps are really simple.

    How To Make Oven Roasted Sausage And Potatoes

  • Preheat the oven to 400*F.
  • Line a large baking sheet with tin foil, and spray with cooking spray. Set aside.
  • Cut sausage into rounds. Chop the onions and potatoes the same size. This helps with cooking time.
  • Put the sausage rounds, onions, and potatoes into a large bowl. Drizzle with a tablespoon of olive oil and season with salt, pepper, and paprika. Toss together with your hands until everything is evenly distributed. Pour this out onto the sheet pan and spread out the sausage and potatoes.
  • Place into the heated oven and roast for 45 minutes to an hour, stirring every 15 minutes or so, until the potatoes are golden brown and tender. Turn off the oven.
