Peanut Butter And Banana Quesadilla



  • 2 tablespoons of peanut butter
  • 1/2 of a banana
  • 1/8 teaspoon of cinnamon

Spread the peanut butter over the entire tortilla. Slice the banana and arrange the slices on half of the tortilla. Sprinkle the cinnamon over the bananas and fold the tortilla in half. Slice it into triangles before serving.

  • Whole wheat toast with peanut butter
  • Yogurt with fresh fruit
  • Hummus with carrots kids love to dip!
  • Raw vegetables with ranch dip
  • Whole wheat mini bagels with light cream cheese

A favorite snack in my house for my 3- and 4-year-old and are these homemade No-Bake Peanut Butter Oatmeal Bites. Of course if there are peanut allergies within your own home or in your childrens school, feel free to substitute another kind of butter such as soy nut butter or sunflower seed butter in place of peanut butter.

  • 1 cup old fashioned oats
  • ½ cup crunchy peanut butter
  • cup honey
  • ½ cup raisins OR ½ cup ReesesTM Peanut Butter chips
  • Mix peanut butter, honey and oats together.
  • Add vanilla extract, flaxseed and raisins . Mix until combined.
  • Refrigerate for about 30 minutes or until chilled. Form dough into about 1 inch balls.
  • Store in refrigerator in an airtight container.

    Keep these behaviours in mind to practise healthy snacking.

  • Choose healthy snack foods

    Follow the healthy eating recommendation to make it a habit to choose a variety of healthy foods for your snacks.

  • Eat your snacks mindfully

    Eat your snacks slowly and without distractions, such as watching TV.

    Choose small portions. Serve a small amount for your snack and try not to eat directly from large containers.

    Eat snacks when you feel hungry, and not just out of routine or when you feel:

  • Try preparing snacks in advance to save you time:

    • Chop extra vegetables when cooking so youll have some for snacks.
    • Make muffins or homemade granola bars and store them in the freezer.
    • Hard-cook eggs on the weekend. They will keep for a week in the fridge with the shell on.
    • Make your own trail mix. Take whole grain cereal and nuts and seeds and toss them together.

    My son is in his second year of preschool and we are required to bring a snack for the class about once a month. Now being a dietitian, I cringe a little when I think of the type of snacks my son will be eating all year. Now thats not to say the preschools welcome letter didnt suggest healthy snacks, its just that I know parents, and a LOT do not know what or how to provide healthy snacks for preschoolers.

    I believe the mentality or mindset of what a snack is defined as needs to change. The definition of snack does NOT = sweets/junk food. A snack is a smaller portion of food eaten between meals. According to the Oxford Dictionary, the definition of snack is a small amount of food eaten between meals. Nowhere does it state that a snack is defined as a treat, sweet or dessert. Unfortunately many people believe that a snack is just that a dessert. When it comes to the preschool age , they have small stomachs and need food every few hours. This leads to eating about 6 times a day, 3 meals and 3 snacks.

    How To Make Banana Oat Muffins:

    • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Spray a regular muffin tin with non-stick cooking spray or line with muffin liners.
    • In a large bowl, beat the egg, brown sugar, yogurt, milk, applesauce, honey, and vanilla and mix until well combined. Mash the bananas until no chunks remain. Add to mixture.
    • In a separate bowl combine the dry ingredients: flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and oats.
    • Add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients and stir just until combined.
    • Spoon the mixture evenly into the muffin tins, filling each cup all the way to the top. Bake at 400 degrees F for about 5 minutes and then reduce heat to 350 degrees and cook for another 12-14 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

    • Adaptable Use this recipe as your base and substitute any of your favorite ingredients! I like to include chopped almonds, raisins, craisins, or butterscotch chips. The options are endless, and you can use a different nut butter or swap it out for sunflower butter if needed for allergies.
    • Grab-and-Go Keep them in the fridge for any snacking emergency or simply grab a few on your way out the door!

    4 Healthy Kids Easter Snacks

    As preschool teachers, we have little control over providing healthy snacks for preschoolers unless our programs provide the meals.

    However, you can still create healthy snacks WITH your preschoolers to provide at snack or lunch as part of your daily activities in your interest learning centers!

    Cooking in the preschool classroom is something we all should do–and you do NOT need an oven or microwave to incorporate cooking into your program.

    Apples And Peanut Butter Dip

    Apple slices and peanut butter are a delicious combination.

    The skin of an apple contains pectin, a soluble fiber that feeds friendly gut bacteria and improves digestive health .

    Peanut butter has a thick consistency, which may be difficult for kids to use as a dip.

    Mix a little bit of plain, full-fat yogurt into two tablespoons of peanut butter to make a smooth, creamy dip for apple slices.

    Let’s look at some fun and easy healthy snacks to make with your preschoolers in the classroom!

    The children help you to wash the celery and help to cut off the ends.

    Have them help you to stir cream cheese so that it is soft and spreadable.

    Have the children help you peel, core and cut apples into small pieces.

    If you have a stove or microwave, cook it until it is the correct texture.

    If you don’t have a stove or microwave, sprinkle some lemon juice on the apples and place in a covered container in the refrigerator.

    Take them home to cook and bring back the next day to eat.

    Bagel Pizza

    I have set this up as an assembly line type operation!

    Provide bagels and pizza sauce in their own bowls.

    Provide a block of cheese and a cheese grater on a bowl.

    Provide pepperoni, whole black olives and other toppings.

    The children go down the table and use each ingredient:

    1. Choose a bagel .

    2. Spread sauce on it with a small ladle or spoon.

    3. Slice some pepperoni .

    4. Slice up an olive or other toppings.

    5. Grate some cheese .

    Place them all on a cookie tray .

    Give the children plastic knives to cut their cheese into smaller pieces to fit on the crackersCookies

    Have the children help you to wash, cut and mix fruit in a large bowl.
