Tips On Cooking Quesadillas

You dont have to have a lot of experience in the kitchen to make quesadillas. In fact, it is an excellent dish to teach someone new to cooking to make on his own. As straightforward as it is, there are a few tricks that can significantly improve the results.

  • Use the largest flour tortilla that will fit flatly on the bottom of your skillet. Most manufacturers label them as burrito-sized.
  • Start with a hot cooking surface. Heat a dry skillet or, better yet, a griddle pan over medium-high heat. Dont put the tortilla on a cold cooking surface, or it is much more likely to stick.
  • Cook the tortilla on the first side until it slides easily, then turn it over. Add an eighth of the shredded mixed cheeses to the bottom half of the tortilla. Lay the chicken on top of the cheese and cover with another eighth of the cheese mixture.
  • Let the cheese start to melt before spreading the quesadilla sauce on the top portion of the tortilla and folding it over the melting cheese and chicken.
  • Flip over and cook until slightly browned on both sides.

Taco Bell Chicken Quesadillas with Creamy Jalapeño Sauce | Copycat Recipe

First, we will start with a list of the basic steps you must follow to make this awesome recipe.

Try to cook your quesadilla in a skillet and you can also cover it with a lid. Cook it over low heat and dont forget to cover it between flipping it.

You cant even hear the word quesadila without cheese immediately coming to mind. Its the most important part for me. Our first impulse is to buy a big bag of shredded cheese. Dont do it. Instead buy a block of cheese and shred some right before you make your quesadilla. Tastes way better, in my opinion!

    Tips For Making Chicken Quesadillas:

  • Microwave assembled quesadillas for 30 seconds before toasting, this speeds up the toasting step, without drying out the shell.
  • When cooking the quesadillas, cook over medium-low heat to prevent the tortillas from burning.
  • Serve quesadillas with all your favorite taco toppings. You can plan your quesadilla bar ahead of time and keep your toppings stored in food containers until, serving time. Favorite add ons include beans, jalapeno, lettuce, onions, seasoned rice, tomatoes, and sheet pan Fiesta Taco Bell Potatoes.
  • To save time pick up cooked chicken breast meat from the store. Cooked chicken meat choices include rotisserie chicken, grilled and fully cooked chicken breast strips , or canned chicken. Chicken quesadillas are also a great way to use up leftover meat! I always like to marinate my chicken breast meat in a baking soda solution for tender meat.
  • Keep quesadilla sauce inside a clear squeeze bottle, for easier use. Creamy Jalapeno Sauce can keep up to 6 months in the fridge if your ranch dressing is not outdated. Note:homemade ranch dressing will differ in storing time. I use prepared Hidden Valley ranch dressing for the quesadilla sauce.

  • Copycat Taco Bell Quesadilla Sauce

    Taco Bell

Let’s talk about this sauce. It takes 2 minutes to make and really takes this quesadilla up to the next level. It adds a whole other layer of meltiness to the quesadilla. And I’m here for it.

The sauce is made with mayonnaise and a few spices, and has two surprise ingredients that transform boring mayo into something super addicting: pickled jalapeños and the juice from the pickled jalapeños, and a tiny bit of sugar.

YES! The jalapeño juice adds a little bit of acidity/sourness to the sauce, and the sugar helps balance out the acidity. And the pickled jalapeños add a slight kick of spiciness, without overwhelming the quesadilla.

Added sugar?? Don’t worry, it’s only ½ teaspoon. Most of the recipes on this site are on the healthier side, but if you really want to make an irresistible copycat taco bell sauce, you’re going to have to add some sugar.

What Is Taco Bells Quesadilla Sauce Made Of

You need pickled jalapenos and pickled jalapeno juice . Then, you want to mix equal parts mayonnaise and sour cream to make it slightly tangy and finally, you want to add in the spices. For spices, I use tons of cumin, garlic powder, smoked paprika , cayenne, salt, and pepper.

I recommend adjusting the amount of salt according to your taste so taste the sauce before and after adding the salt! I like to use 1/2 tsp but you can start with 1/4 tsp and build up from there.

Ingredients For Taco Bell Chicken Quesadillas

    For the quesadillas:

    • 4 large burrito-sized tortillas
    • 1 lb of cooked chicken
    • 4 slices American cheese
    • 2 cups shredded cheese, such as Mexican Blend, or a combination of cheddar, Monterey Jack, or Pepper Jack

    For the sauce:

    • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
    • teaspoon cayenne pepper

I sometimes double or triple the sauce recipe, and use it in place of salsa and sour cream for dipping the quesadilla. This sauce also makes an AMAZING burger sauce or dip for veggies, and keeps in the fridge for at least a couple of days.

Want to cut down on the spice? Skip the cayenne pepper, and use pickle relish instead of the jalapeño and sugar, and use pickle juice instead of jalapeño juice.

    Tips To Perfect The Recipe

    Copycat Taco Bell Quesadilla

How to reheat Taco Bell chicken quesadillas? If you make these in bulk, my favorite way to reheat these is in the air fryer! Place the quesadilla in the air fryer at 375 degrees for 3-5 minutes until it’s heated through and crispy.

If you don’t have any leftover chicken, it’s easy to make your own. Since buying an air fryer I use it for literally everything and my favorite way to cook chicken is in the air fryer for 15-20 minutes from frozen at 400 degrees. Alternatively, you can cook the chicken breast on the stovetop over medium heat until it’s browned and cooked through to 165 degrees.

I dont trust anyone who says they dont like Taco Bell.

Chances are theyre either a liar or an alien and I dont have room in my life for either of those.

My homemade Crunchwrap Supreme recipe is easily the most popular recipe on our site. It has been viewed a few million times and pinned two million times!

Its universally beloved and for good reason its delicious AF.

The Crunchwrap is my favorite item on the Taco Bell menu. Since you guys loved it so much, I wanted to make a homemade version of my second favorite Taco Bell item the chicken quesadilla. If youve had one, you know its covered in this amazing creamy yet spicy sauce.

That sauce is pretty much what makes the Taco Bell quesadilla unique.

The first step in creating a homemade version of this recipe is to recreate the special sauce.

Luckily it is pretty simple. You will need mayo for the base and a few spices like cayenne & garlic as well as some pickled jalapeños.

I always order a side of pico and sour cream when I hit up the Taco Bell drive-through. To me, this completes any quesadilla.

What recipe should I copycat next? Im thinking maybe those new Taco Bell fries.
