Fennel + Fenugreek Seeds

Fennel is the vegetable with the white, sweet, licorice-flavoured bulb and thin green fronds. Both the plant and its seed, fenugreek, contain phytoestrogens, Simpson writes, which have long been believed to help milk production along. Fenugreek the herb is kind of a big deal for breastfeeding moms in North America, but its also been used for centuries by women in India and parts of the Middle East. You sure can! Feel free to whip up a batch and put half in the freezer. Enjoy the first half for the next few days and when you run out, pull the others out and let them thaw on the counter before enjoying.

If youre making these in advance, say before the baby even arrives, just so its one last thing you need to worry about, bake the brownies and let them cool.

Then, slice and wrap the brownies individually in plastic wrap then put them in a large freezer bag for up to 3 months.

  • Pre-heat oven at 350 degrees fahrenheit.
  • Put your 2 cups of rolled oats into a high speed blender or food processor. Blend until the oats are a flour-like consistency.
  • Measure out 1 TB of fennel seeds and grind in coffee grinder or with mortal and pestle until fine powder.
  • Put dry ingredients into large bowl and mix.
  • In a smaller bowl, put your almond butter, melted coconut oil, honey, eggs and vanilla extract. Mix well.
