Thai Hot Sauce Recipe

3 DIFFERENT recipes, with the SAME ingredients | Healthy Recipes

This Thai hot sauce recipe, called fire api, is simple to make and has a fantastic spicy flavor! Made with red Thai chili peppers, garlic, vinegar, and salt this simple condiment brings the heat to anything you add it to.

Ready in just 15 minutes, homemade Thai hot sauce is fantastic to keep in the fridge. Add it to chili, soups, curries, eggs, or just about any savory recipe. We always keep a jar or two in our fridge!

This recipe comes to us courtesy of TC, a family friend. We grew a few Malaysian pepper plants in the garden last year, and he gave us the recipe for this traditional Thai hot sauce. It was such a hit, we grew twice as many pepper plants this year so we could make even more of this delicious sauce.

Im not kidding when I say we put this on just about everything we eat. It goes into every bowl of soup or stew, gets added to eggs and breakfast sandwiches, and we even add it to pastas. A little goes a long way, this is one spicy sauce!

Chicken + Ginger + Rice + Teriyaki Sauce + Frozen Stir

Go gourmet: Follow the full recipe from Cooking Classy.

For our cheat version: Frozen veggies to the rescue! These medleys are frozen at their peak, so they’re typically concentrated with nutrients and are a great thing to always keep in your kitchen. Instead of making your own, grab a bottled teriyaki sauce, like Soy Vay’s Veri Veri Teriyaki, from the supermarket. Nothing can beat the taste and bloat-banishing capabilities of fresh ginger, though, so we opted to leave that in.

Whats In This Thai Chili Sauce Recipe

  • Thai Chili Peppers we grew 8 or 9 of these Malaysian chili plants this year, just to make a few batches of this fire api sauce. If we got a big harvest, we also froze the peppers to use in sauces later in the year. You can find the peppers in season in the late summer in grocery stores, or order them fresh online here.
  • Garlic use the freshest spiciest garlic you can for the best flavor.
  • White Vinegar we used a basic white vinegar for this recipe.
  • Salt we use a pink Himalayan sea salt for this recipe.

Super Simple Meal Plan + Grocery List

What makes life easier and saves you time and money? Meal planning!

It sure doesnt sound exciting, but its a wonderful thing.

Over the last few months Ive noticed that a lot of the meals we eat revolve around the same list of ingredients, so I thought Id see how many different meals I could make out of a small grocery list.

Using the same ingredients for multiple meals means that there are fewer things to pick up at the store and youre less likely to waste food .

When I open a jar of spaghetti sauce and then only use part of it for a meal, the rest usually goes bad before I get around to using it. But if I plan multiple meals that use spaghetti sauce, it doesnt go to waste. Makes sense, right?

Anyways, a lot of these ingredients you probably already have, like the mayo and ranch dressing. If youre starting with a completely empty kitchen, the shopping list is only 16 items long and youll be able to make 6 different meals!

Im not including how much to buy of each ingredient because it totally depends on how many people youre cooking for. All of the recipes are hardly complicated enough to be called recipes and you just use how much you want of each ingredient.

Basically, if youre making quesadillas and you want each person to have their own, you will need two tortillas per person. So you can figure things out that way.

Ive also made the grocery list and meal plan into a printable for easier use. Enter your info below to get it:

Minimal Ingredients Multiple Lunches: Meal Prep 101

I have month’s worth of freezer meals, ready to go

When thinking about meal prep,” most peoples minds revert to an image of plastic container after plastic container, each filled with chopped grilled chicken and vegetables.

Even though that method probably works, some of us dont want to eat the same thing every. single. day. I’m here to say that meal prep isnt just for the type-A overly-organized, the diet obsessed, and those who are super into eating grilled chicken every day. Believe it or not, there is a happy medium between not planning at all and making and freezing all of your food for the month in one day .

The trick is to take one week at a time and come up with anywhere from 5-10 items that you can use to create multiple meals in conjunction with what you already have in your kitchen. That’s right, you can say goodbye to sad desk lunches forever simply by thinking ahead.

When buying minimal ingredients, some overlap is unavoidable, but you can package your food in different ways to create tasty dishes. I usually pick a theme of some sort, so that I know the items that I buy will taste good together. Here are three example shopping lists with potential lunch combinations:

Cod + Miso Glaze + Mushrooms + Garlic + Baby Bok Choy

Go gourmet: Follow the full recipe from Closet Cooking.

For our cheat version: You can buy ready-made miso glaze at the store so you don’t have to fuss about buying ingredients like sake, mirin, and miso paste that you might otherwise never use. As for the sauté, use oil, water, and part of the miso glaze, along with garlic, to boost the flavor of your veggies.

While bok choy is a good source of vegetarian iron, it’s unique in comparison to other iron-rich sources like potatoes and watermelon because it’s also high in vitamin C, the vitamin necessary for the proper absorption of iron into your bloodstream. For the same reason, strawberries and kale make a great pairing to make your smoothies healthier.

Seared Salmon With Chipolte Honey Lime Butter

When it comes to complimenting the natural flavors of salmon, Cooking For Keeps has the solution. A fast and flavorful meal, this seared salmon with chipolte honey lime butter will give you a high quality dish in only 20 minutes. That leaves you plenty of time to mix up some margaritas to serve with dinner.

Rice + Onion + Eggs + Soy Sauce + Frozen Mixed Veggies

SAME Recipe: Is Cheesecake Better with Expensive Ingredients??

Go gourmet: Follow the full recipe from Cooking Classy.

For our cheat version: Just pick up a bag of frozen mixed veggies in the frozen food aisle and you’ve cut 5 ingredients down to 1! Most vegetable bags will have peas, carrots, corn, and green beans, but we couldn’t leave out the onion. This vegetable is one of the top sources of quercetin, a flavonoid that increases blood flow and activates a protein in the body that helps regulate glucose levels, torches stored fat, and keeps new fat cells from forming. If you want, you can sub the onion for garlic, ginger, or even mushrooms to fill out your five ingredients.

How Do You Make Hot Sauce In A Blender Or With An Immersion Blender

  • Remove the stems from the peppers, and place the peppers in a large quart-sized jar .
  • Add the peeled garlic. Pour in enough vinegar to just cover the peppers and garlic. Add a sprinkle of salt to the sauce.
  • With an immersion blender, blend the sauce until the peppers and garlic have broken down. We like to leave the sauce a little chunky, but for a completely smooth sauce, blend until the seeds have completely pulverized.
  • Store hot sauce in an air-tight jar in your refrigerator for up to 4 weeks.
  • Chicken With Creamy Leeks

To kick things off, lets start with one of my all-time favourites chicken with creamy leeks. This is a soul-warming meal for those cold winter nights, with minimal washing up. You can have it alone, or serve it with pasta. The choice is yours.

    Ingredients

    • 1 chicken breast

    Method

Preheat the oven to 200C . Once its hot enough, place the chicken on a baking tray and bake for 20-25 minutes until cooked through.

Meanwhile, chop the leek and fry lightly in a frying pan. When turning soft , add fromage frais and then half a cup of water. Season lightly. Wait for the liquid to reduce to a creamy sauce and add grated cheese and herbs.

Spoon the creamy sauce and leeks into a bowl, then top with chicken breast. Enjoy!

For our cheat version: Making a frittata is a great way to use any leftover veggies in your kitchen. If you’ve got none, run out to the store to pick up these five ingredients. We replace the milk with water for our version and combine the cheeses by just picking up a bagged cheese blend.

If youve ever wanted to have ice cream for breakfast and still be able to call it healthy, this is the option for you. • 4 tsp. maple syrup
    • 1/3 cup granola

    • Divide the mixture evenly between popsicle molds and set aside.
    • Combine the granola with the remaining 2 tsp. of maple syrup and stir until sticky.

You don’t need to have lots of expensive ingredients to make lots of different meals for your family.

We’ve picked 10 classic ingredients to show you how you can turn them into 10 different dinners that can be on the dinner table in no time! You don’t always have to use all of the ingredients listed in a recipe – vegetables can be replaced by whatever you have, as can most meats and cheeses. And feel free to make additions of whatever you have in the house to give your meals a personal family twist. We all that kids can be fussy and this is a great way to get them to eat more veggies.

A simple tomato sauce is the basis of a lot of family meals and you don’t need lots of ingredients to make it either. Where the recipe calls for it, use our classic tomato sauce – all you really need is a tin of chopped tomatoes, which you probably already have stored in your kitchen cupboard.

Carrot Tart With Ricotta And Feta

If you have some slightly sweet vegetables at your disposal not just carrots, but onions, parsnips, beets or pumpkin this is the recipe for you. Sue Li lays them on a bed of creamy ricotta and briny feta supported by flaky puff pastry. The one big tip: Dont forget to cook your veggies first. Raw vegetables release liquid that can weigh down your otherwise crisp-crunchy puff pastry and take away from its charm.

Theres great beauty in Vertamae Smart-Grosvenors one-step recipe. Its intentionally simple, with few ingredients and lean direction, echoing Ms. Smart-Grosvenors approach in the kitchen. I just do it by vibration, she wrote in her 1970 cookbook Vibration Cooking, or the Travel Notes of a Geechee Girl. Cook until the blind-baked crust is golden brown and the custard is just set add ham or cheese or herbs before cooking or chill it and then dig in the next day when the custard is especially creamy. As Ms. Smart-Grosvenor writes: Do your thing your way.

Eric Kim cooks skin-on, bone-in chicken thighs in a hot, hot oven until you can hear them sizzling, a great sign that their skins are crispy and their fat has rendered. As if that werent mouthwatering enough, he then tosses hand-torn chunks of bread onto the pan. A quick fish-sauce butter, assembled on the stove, is spooned over top. A bed of greens would be a great accompaniment, but if you just wanted to sop up the buttery sauce with those croutons, we wouldnt blame you.

Pork + Chipotle + Orange Marmalade + Green Beans + Sweet Potatoes

Go gourmet: Follow the full recipe from Minced.

For our cheat version: Spice things up with this spicy pork tenderloin. Because we don’t have enough ingredients to make a marinade, we’re happy blogger Minced provides us with a great brine step. Using just water, salt, and a little of the orange marmalade, the brine allows the meat to absorb liquid, which makes it more flavorful and juicier after it’s cooked. Before you grill the tenderloin, throw a sweet potato into a 425-degree oven for an hour. Poke holes into it with a fork, drizzle with olive oil, salt, and pepper and wrap with foil. For the green beans, boil in salted water for four minutes, drain and season with oil, salt, and pepper.
