Dietary Swaps And Substitutions

A benefit of this cookie recipe is just how easy they are to adapt to various diets out there! Here is what weve tried:

  • Swap out the peanut butter. Got a peanut allergy? These work with other nut butters like cashew butter or almond butter.
  • Make them nut free. If youve got a nut allergy, switch the peanut butter for equal amounts of sunflower seed butter or tahini.
  • Use a liquid sweetener. Instead of a granulated sugar substitute, use half a cup of sugar free maple syrup.
  • Make it eggless. Follow a vegan diet or dont have eggs on hand? Try using an egg substitute.
  • Add chocolate. For sugar free chocolate chip cookies, add 1/2 cup of sugar free chocolate chips to the batter.

“These might be my favorite gluten-free cookies,” says Kristen. “I did not make the icing , but iced them with icing from my pantry and they were so good. The texture reminded me of the soft iced cookies you can buy at the grocery store.”

“They don’t break apart nor do they bend once cooled so they are ideal for holiday decorating,” according to Allrecipes Allstar Buckwheat Queen. “I left them covered with cheesecloth on the counter overnight and decorated the next day and packaged once the icing dried. They make great gift cookies.”

“This cookie recipe tastes really good and is easily rolled out to make cookie cutter cookies,” raves J Telg. “I have made it with half white sugar/half coconut sugar and all coconut sugar for the cookies. Both batches were really good!”

Healthy Fats For Baking: Get Slim By Eating Fat

Now that weve got the sweetness and the structure aspects of baking covered, its time to tackle the fats.

Fats provide moisture and tender texture to baked goods. They give rich mouth feel to soufflés, the silky finesse to mousse and golden, flaky goodness to pie crust. But what they do in your body is even more important than what they do in the kitchen.

The fats you eat influence inflammation and metabolism. They affect how cells communicate with each other. They even affect how your genes express themselves! And when they are used at the wrong temperatures they can cause oxidative damage that can mutate cells and encourage cancer.

But using the right fats, in their appropriate temperature range, is one of the best things you can do for your health. Healthy fats can help reduce inflammation, boost brainpower, discourage wrinkles and even flip your bodys fat-storage switch off. And these are the kind of fats we rely on at Healing Gourmet.

Stock your pantry with these heat stable, REAL fats for delicious baked goods with benefits:

The fats to AVOID in your baking include hydrogenated oils/trans fats as well as fats that are high in omega-6 including: vegetable oil, corn oil, canola oil, peanut oil, grapeseed oil, and soybean oil. .

Xanthan Gum Versus Glucomannan Powder

Gluten

If it’s an unfamiliar ingredient to you, let me explain why it’s such a great option. Glucomannan is a natural, water soluble, dietary fiber made from the root of the konjac plant.

This fiber is the same ingredient used to make Miracle noodles or Shiritayaki noodles.

It’s been used for a very long time in Japanese cooking as a thickener. Before I discovered it, I was using xantham gum as a thickener for my gravy, but it gets somewhat goopy and a bit to gel-like.

Many people don’t like the slimy texture that can often happen if you use too much xanthan gum. I’d recommend trying glucomannan if you’re not a fan of xanthan, it’s definitely a must in my keto kitchen!

A Easy Sex In A Pan Recipe

An easy sex in a pan recipe is a challenge when you are trying to keep it to real food ingredients and somewhat healthy. Im not going to lie, its definitely calorie dense and on the heavier side. But, at least there are no artificial ingredients. And, its still pretty simple to make no processed pudding mix required!

The other aspect I struggled with was keeping the sex in a pan recipe under ten ingredients total. After all, ten ingredients or less is my thing. Definitely not easy with a six layer dessert!

Fortunately, I was able to repeat many of the ingredients among the different layers, so it worked out. It actually came out to nine ingredients, although my original version had ten.

I skipped the vanilla pudding layer, because patience isnt my strong suit. Waiting for each layer to set already took long enough with five layers! Its totally worth it though, I promise.

Anyway, the other layers are so decadent that I dont think youll miss the one I omitted. If you really like vanilla pudding, feel free to add a layer of your favorite kind before the chocolate layer.

In fact, I was so determined to make this low carb dessert a little faster than traditional sex in a pan recipes, that I decided to modify the chocolate layer from the original.

The older version required making chocolate pudding using xanthan gum, and waiting hours for it to set. Some people reported issues with the pudding setting, and the xanthan gum was less readily available for many.

    Can You Freeze The Cakes

Its really easy to freeze unfrosted cakes. Once your cakes are completely cool, wrap the cakes with plastic wrap , wrap again with aluminum foil, and then place in a plastic freezer bag.

The cakes can be frozen for up to 3 months. You can defrost the wrapped cake at room temperature for 2-3 hours or overnight in the refrigerator.

Low Glycemic Sweeteners: Sweetening Power That Wont Sour Your Health

Few of us have the willpower to resist a freshly-baked, meltingly delicious, chocolate chip cookie. The smell wafting out of the kitchen and the sight of their gooey goodness is just too enticing to pass up.

Unfortunately, most of us go through life indulging, only to suffer from post-dessert guilt and sugar-induced sluggishness. Or we deprive ourselves for the sake of our health and waistline.

How To Turn The Dough Into Drop Cookies

If you want to turn the sugar cookie dough into drop cookies, scoop out 2 Tablespoon portions of the dough then roll into balls, place onto a silpat or parchment paper-lined baking sheet at least 2 apart, then gently press down with your fingers to slightly flatten. Bake for 8-10 minutes at 350 degrees or until the centers of the cookies have just barely set.

    • Tip 1: The dough should be soft but not sticky. If its sticky while trying to roll into balls, refrigerate the whole bowl for 10 minutes. Ive never had this problem, but if you do, refrigerate vs adding more flour.
    • Tip 2: The cookies will NOT be golden brown when done. Pull them out of the oven just shy of being golden brown around the edges to ensure they stay soft and chewy in the center.

Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Then, frost and embellish to your hearts desire!

Cracked Chocolate Earth With Whipped Cream

Tyler Florences interpretation of a classic flourless chocolate cake truly looks like cracked earth or a really rough patch of asphalt. This makes it an ideal recipe for a kids themed birthday party, letting you decorate it with dinosaurs, cars or whatever else your little one is currently obsessed with. Whats best is that it only requires a handful of ingredients.

Savory Gluten & Dairy Free Avocado Toast With Sardines

This is one of my favorite sugar free savory breakfast recipe that is really quick to make.

This savory breakfast its really satisfying for those days when you have salty cravings. The rich fatty flavor and texture of this avocado toast helps cut down on the fishy notes of the sardine, turning this simple gluten free dairy free breakfast into something very delicious and filling!

For this I used agluten free sourdough bread bunthat I previously made. I keep them in the freezer and in the morning, I just throw a few buns in the toaster, slice or mush some avocado, and top them with caned wild caught sardines.

I like those sardines because the fish is cleaned and deboned, theyre in olive oil, not soy, plus theyre wild caught, not farmed. Farmed fish are usually genetically modified and fed with chemicals.

The best part about sardines is that they are also one of the most nutritious fishes in the sea. They have one of the most concentrated sources of omega-3 fatty acids plus theyre a great source of vitamin D, and vitamin B12.

How Do You Make Sugar Free Cake From Scratch

    Prepare

Turn on the oven and allow it to preheat. Line 2 cake pans with parchment paper and set aside.

    Stir

Place all of the dry ingredients other than the sweetener in a large bowl and stir with a whisk to combine. In a separate bowl, add the eggs, sweetener, greek yogurt and vanilla and stir well. Add the dry mixture to the wet and stir until everything is well incorporated.

    Fold In

Gently fold in the carrots, nuts and coconut flakes and stir until just combined. Let the batter sit for a little while so that the coconut flour can absorb the moisture.

    Bake

Divide the batter between the cake pans and bake them until done! Cool completely, then frost the cake!

    Recipe Variations

Here are a few ways to switch things up with this coconut flour carrot cake to suit your needs and preferences:

    • Dairy Free: Use dairy free cream cheese and dairy free greek yogurt.
    • Paleo: Use plant based yogurt instead of greek yogurt. Also, you may be able to use coconut sugar instead of erythritol but I have not personally tried this.
