Old Duff & Rockys Liqueur Gin And Tonic

Thyme-Infused Gin & Tonic Recipe – Big Y Dig In & Do It!

Brendan Bartley, head bartender and beverage director of the prohibition-inspired speakeasy Bathtub Gin in New York City, calls his spin on the gin and tonic a classic love story of old world meets new. It sees the Old Duff Genever and the herbaceous Rockys Liqueur combined with lemon tonic, fresh pineapple, and lime. I love the pairing as it breaks the usual gin and tonic mold and has genever, the birthplace of gin, in a way anybody can appreciate it, says Bartley. Its interesting enough to be quirky for gin nerds, delicious enough anyone can enjoy it. The perfect romance.

Ingredients

0.75 oz Old Duff Genever 0.75 oz Rockys Liqueur 3.5 oz Lemon Tonic 1-inch pineapple cube, lime wedge

Directions

Add all spirits to a chilled Brandy balloon glass, and add tonic. Top with ice, lightly stir, and add garnishes delicately on top.

The Gin And Tonic And Dill

People should make this drink because it shows how similar food and drink flavor pairings can be as well as the savorier side of cocktails, especially gin and tonics, which are traditionally thought to be light and citrus-forward, says David Maness, beverage director 1751 Sea & Bar, Houston, Texas. Thats why his take uses fresh dill, cucumber tonic, and dry Japanese gin.

Ingredients

1.5oz 135 East Hyogo Dry Japanese Gin 4oz Fever Tree Cucumber Tonic DillCucumber

Directions

Build in a glass, add ice, and garnish with cucumber ribbon and fresh dill sprig

Elderflower Gin & Tonic

by Garnish with Lemon

Elderflower Liqueur has always been wonderful, but it has experienced a resurgence of popularity in recent years. Elderflower works great with the classic gin & tonic, which this cocktail recipe by Garnish with Lemon proves nicely.

How To Make A Blackberry Gin And Tonic

I didnt muddle fresh blackberries in this version of the cocktail where I took pictures. But I prefer the flavor of them.

Before adding ice, add fresh blackberries to the cocktail glass and muddle to release the juices.

Add ice and add the gin.

Add the blackberry simple syrup.

The simple syrup should be made ahead of time and cooled completely before using in a cocktail recipe so be sure to plan ahead!

This small measuring cup makes mixing cocktails at home super easy.

Add fresh lime juice.

Top with tonic.

Give it a little stir and youre ready to enjoy!

I like to add cute drink accessories to my cocktails sometimes. I saw these custom drink stirrers on Etsy and had one made with my name on it. I think it turned out super cute! Plus you can use it to stir the drink and in place of garnish.

The Secret To A Quick Infusion

MONIN Flavoured Gin & Tonic

Youll get a gorgeous pink color and a berry flavor whether you use fresh or frozen berries, but frozen berries release their pigments and juices so much more quickly! I highly recommend using frozen blueberries if you want to speed up your infusion time.

When berries are frozen, all of the juice inside the fruit turns to ice. These little ice shards expand when the fruit thaws, which breaks down the cell walls and turns most fruits kind of mushy.

Not great for eating, but perfect for infusing! These mushy fruits infuse into the liquor readily because theyve already been partially broken down. Using fresh blueberries requires a longer infusion time .

If you just want a pretty pink gin and tonic and the berry flavor isnt as important, you can have a batch ready in as little as 15-20 minutes with frozen berries!

Ever Heard Of A Spanish G& t

Gin and Tonic

Another style of G& T is the Spanish gin and tonic, or gin tonica. In the early 2000s, chefs and bartenders in Spain started a botanical-forward and flamboyant style of making the drink.

Youll find it served in a large balloon-style wine glass filled with ice and garnished heavily with botanicals. The reason for the large bowl style glass is so that when your nose dips in while taking a sip, you get an added layer of aromas from whatever is being served in the glass. To properly garnish your drink, use the botanicals found in the gin to guide you.

For example, if you were to use Hendricks gin, with its aromas of cucumber and rose, you could garnish your drink with both of those. Even juniper-forward Beefeater has some citrus and peppery flavors that would be enhanced with citrus zest and a few black pepper pods.

How To Make The Blueberry Infusion

To make your blueberry-infused gin, gather your berries, gin, and a mason jar with a lid.

Add ½ cup of blueberries to the jar and cover them with ½-¾ cup of gin. You want to make sure that the berries are completely covered with liquid.

If they arent, add more gin. The fun part about infusions is that most dont really have to be exact measurements. Add some fruit or an herb to a jar, cover with spirit, let steep, strain, and enjoy. Its that simple.

Next, screw the lid onto your jar and give it a gentle shake. Let the jar sit for anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 days, depending on the flavor and color you want to achieve.

Once the infusion is done, use a fine mesh strainer to remove the berries and either discard them or keep them to use as a garnish for your cocktails.

Gin-soaked berries are the perfect garnish for your Gin and Tonic! Store the infusion berries in the fridge if you do decide to keep them for garnishes, and toss them after a couple of days.

Store any leftover blueberry-infused gin in your mason jar. I like to keep my infusions in the refrigerator, but you dont have to because of the alcohol.

Infusions like this do keep for a while, but they taste best when theyre fresh. This is why I typically just make small batches like this, rather than infusing an entire bottle of gin. Its a lot more economical, too.

If your infusion ever starts to look or smell off, dump it and make a fresh batch. This recipe is so quick, you can have more in about an hour!

How To Make The Best Gin And Tonic

To make the best gin and tonic, pick a gin with botanicals that you enjoy, pair it with a quality tonic, and garnish with more than just a lime. The ratio of gin to tonic varies according to your own taste , but typically youâll want to use a ratio of 1:3. So, one ounce of gin, and three ounces of tonic.

Fill your glass with ice, pour in the gin first, then the tonic. Give it a quick stir. Add your garnish, giving any fruits or herbs a quick squeeze in your hands before adding them to the glass to release their natural oils, and enjoy!

If youre hosting a cocktail party at home, create a gin and tonic bar with a variety of gin, tonic water, and garnishes for your guests to create their own combination.

This recipe calls for lots of crushed ice, but you could easily use small ice cubes instead.

Fill a tall collins glass with peach slices and ice. Then add the gin and the tonic. Stir gently, and garnish with a sprig of rosemary and lime. If you want this flavor, but peaches are in season, add in a little peach liqueur instead for a little extra peachiness.

Earl Gray Gin And Tonic

The Ultimate Frozen Gin & Tonic

This cocktail is an unusual one. The trick is to first infuse your gin with the flavor of earl gray tea. You can do this by steeping a bag of the tea in roughly a cup of tea. Allow it to steep for a while, but no more than an hour.

Once youve done so, the gin can be used as normal to make your gin and tonic. Garnish the drink with a lemon slice or two and then youre good to go.

The ingredients are simple! All you need are limes, tonic, gin, and freezer pop sleeves. As far as limes go, you have to use fresh. I dont recommend pre-bottled lime juice.

I would recommend using nice gin too. Bombay Sapphire is available anywhere which makes it an easy pick. But my favorite inexpensive gin is New Amsterdam.

How Do You Make A Gin And Tonic Better With Garnish

In order to enhance the flavor and aromatics of the botanicals used during the distilling process for gin, get creative with your gin and tonic garnish. Most gin brands will list on the bottle what garnishes pair will with their botanicals.

Traditionally, in most parts of the world, a slice or wedge of lime is all the garnish you need. Sometimes lemon is also used. Fun fact: In the U.K., the use of both lemon and lime together is known as an Evans.

Personally, I like to match the garnish with the botanicals in the gin, so Iâll usually add a fruit as well as an herb. For example, orange and thyme, or grapefruit and rosemary. Hereâs a list of garnishes that go well with a gin and tonic, as well as some creative combinations too.

A quality Gin & Tonic starts with good gin. Since we live in Portugal, we use Portuguese gin in our recipe. For this recipe, we bought a bottle of Gin 13 at a local store for 20.

Sold in a black bottle decorated with pictures of black cats, clovers and skulls in deference to the unlucky/lucky number 13, Gin 13 incorporates 13 different botanicals almond, angelica root, black tea, cardamom, coriander seed, ginger, hops, jasmine, juniper, lemon, licorice, mandarin and prince herb into its gin.

The quality of the tonic water is also important. Ideally, the tonic water should be fresh and bubbly. We like to use Fever-Tree in our G+T recipe but any decent tonic water will suffice.

Is Gin And Tonic A Healthy Drink

Heston’s Cucumber Gin & Tonic | Waitrose

While any alcohol you consume should be in moderation, a gin and tonic is one of the healthier cocktails you can choose. And since it only has two main components , a gin and tonic doesnt rack up the calories like more complex cocktails. Calorie counts vary depending on the brand of tonic water, expect a G& T to come in at about 190 calories. If youre watching your calorie count, you can switch regular tonic for diet, or cut down to 1-1/2 ounces of gin.

Plus, juniper berry, the major flavor behind gin, boasts several important health benefits. These small blue-hued berries can aid digestion and reduce bloating. They are also rich in antioxidants, which may have immune boosting and anti-inflammatory properties.

That said, alcohol is alcohol and too much isnt a good thing. You can have your gin and drink it too, just dont go overboard.
