Oh My Word These Pretzels Are Amazing

This is one of Eddies FAVORITE snacks. Ever. In fact, I made another batch yesterday for the holiday week and he came home from work and immediately dug in. Once you start, you just cant stop with these. So crunchy. And seasoned. So flavorful!

Remember when I shared the caramel pretzels last week? Well, this is another recipe that Lacys mother-in-law has made forever and now we are all hooked.

She even made a gigantic batch for their wedding last year for the after party snack table. It was incredible.

Ive had this recipe long before the wedding, as Lacy got it for me soon after she had them the first time. Ive made them ever since and guys, oh my gosh. They are just such a hit.

And this is huge, because I am NOT a pretzel person.

Its hilarious, because my kids think that pretzels are the best snack on earth. They would eat bowl after bowl of pretzels every day if I let them. They live for pretzels.

Meanwhile, I think that pretzels are generally cardboard-ish and not that great. I mean, sure, I love Dots but regular old pretzels just dont do it for me. I find them bland and uninspiring!

Our family loves ranch dressing. I used it with my Alabama Firecrackers Recipe as well as with Ranch Oyster Crackers.

It never occurred to me to use ranch dressing with pretzels. Insert forehead smack LOL.

What Are Seasoned Ranch Pretzels

Ranch Pretzels are a fun variation on your basic bag of store-bought pretzels. We took oil or melted butter, then added ranch dressing mix and a little garlic powder. We then coated the pretzels in the seasoning mixture and baked them in a warm oven. The results are amazing! Buttery, flavorful pretzels that taste so good you wont be able to stop eating them!

One of my favorite times of the day is after school when I can enjoy time with my kids. I love to be creative with snacks after school, and try to keep them as healthy as possible, while still making them a treat.

After school is a fun time to hear all about the days activities, what they learned, and any excitement at school. Going over the homework to be done and any upcoming functions or projects.

In our family, we always took about 30 minutes or an hour to watch one of the kids favorite kids TV shows. We started through the years watching Sesame Street, then Arthur, The Magic School Bus and then Bill Nye the Science Guy. All these lead to all the science shows on Smithsonian and Discovery channels. All of them are now in the sciences and I like to think this time sharing snacking and loving started their journey in education.

I always had a snack to give them a boost of energy after a long day at school and to tide them over for dinner. Popcorn, oatmeal cookies, fruit, granola bars, and always our version of ants on a log

Ranch Seasoned Pretzels is a recipe that my son discovered at one of his summer jobs. I would not say this recipe falls in the category of healthy but they are addictively good. Sometimes you just need a special treat!

But These These Are Life Changing Pretzels

Now I have always had an affinity for the hard sourdough pretzels. My grandpa would buy them when I was kid and they remind me of him. Id even eat a few, especially if dip was involved. Heck, Id still eat them now with dip.

But they are one of the reasons that this seasoning mixture is so good! You break the pretzels into bite-size pieces, almost like those nugget pretzels you can buy in the store.

You mix together your seasoning its olive oil, a ranch seasoning package , lemon pepper and garlic. This was a big deal for me because Im also not a big ranch fan and so I tend not to make dips or ranch with the seasoning package.

However! I am here to tell you that for the first few months when I ate these pretzels, I had NO idea they had anything ranch-like in them. I just thought they had this incredible seasoning mix! So dont freak over the ranch if you dont love it. And well, if you do love it? You WILL be freaking.

I dont know how to describe how wonderfully these seasonings all come together and coat the pretzels. You bake them and stir and then store them for snacking. Make them ahead of time for the week. Give them as snacky gifts to friend and family.

You wont believe this flavor, seriously!

Easy Spicy Pretzels: The Ultimate Snack Food

The hardest part of making these Ranch seasoned pretzels is waiting for them to cook! Here are the recipe steps:

  • Make a savory sauce with oil, dry ranch salad dressing mix, dill, and a touch of garlic. This sauce gets mixed together in a bowl. Did I mention this was easy to do?
  • Place the pretzels in a large bowl and pour the sauce over them. Give them a good mix. You want to coat the pretzels very well.
  • Pour the seasoned pretzels into a baking dish and bake for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes.
  • These little tasty treats are very satisfying and you can not just eat one!

    Variations Of The Recipe

As I mentioned, you should feel free to use salted pretzels if you like. There are several other ways to zing these ranch pretzels up more beyond ranch salad dressing mix. See what you can do with simple ingredients additions.

    • Try adding extra garlic powder into the seasoning for Garlic Ranch Pretzels. A ½ teaspoon garlic powder should be plenty to add to the batch.
    • For a Spicy Ranch Pretzels snack, add a ¼ teaspoon of cayenne pepper into the mixture.
    • There is no gluten in the homemade dry ranch dressing, so if you buy gluten free pretzels the snack will be gluten free.
    • If you are a fan of dill weed as I am, add an extra teaspoon of dried dill weed in with the coating.
    • While I’ve opted for healthy fats from avocado or olive oil in this recipe, melted butter can also be used to make the seasoned pretzels. Vegetable or canola oil are fine if you prefer.

What Kind Of Pretzels Should I Use To Make Spicy Pretzels

You can use any of the pretzels you want from twists to sticks and squares to circles. Or use a combination of pretzel types. We prefer the butter flavor pretzel sticks.

Another fun way to make these seasoned pretzels is to add other snack items such as Goldfish, oyster crackers, Cheezits, Chex cereal, and nuts to the mix. Just remember to use fewer pretzels when adding additional ingredients.

    Ranch Pretzel Recipe Ingredient Notes

This is a great recipe for experimenting with and adjustingit to your liking. Here are a few ingredient notes and suggestions.

Ranch Dressing We like buying a large bottle of ranch dressing mix. Sometimes you want a bolder ranch flavor. This makes it easy to adjust the amount of ranch used on the pretzels. You can find a big bottle of ranch online HERE.

Pretzels Gluten free pretzels seem to come in smaller portioned bags, unlike the conventional ones. Snyders of Hanover is a good gluten free brand that you can find HERE and it is reasonably priced.

Butter vs Oil I use butter in my recipe because Ilike the buttery taste the pretzels get from it. You could use a neutral oilsuch as canola or vegetable. Substitutethe 4 Tablespoons of Butter for 4 Tablespoons of oil.

The Spices Maybe you want more dill or less garlicon your pretzels? No problem, adjust the spice amounts at will.

    How To Make Ranch Pretzels

The Spicy Ranch Pretzels bake at a relatively low temperature of only 250 degrees F.

Be sure to preheat the oven while you are mixing up your spices.

Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper then pour the coated pretzels into it.

Spread the pretzels out then pop them into the 250 degree F oven.

These pretzels only need to bake for about 15 minutes.

Its long enough to toast the pretzels and ensure that the spices stick to them, but not long enough to burn them.

Youre really just trying to give the pretzels an opportunity to soak up the oil then dry out a bit so that they stay crunchy.

After 15 minutes, remove the pretzels from the oven and give them a good stir before turning them out onto a sheet of waxed paper to cool.

Be sure to spread the pretzels out so that they will cool quicker.

In about 30 minutes, theyll be ready for your hungry crew to devour.

What Seasonings Are Used To Make Spicy Pretzels

The seasoning mixture for this spicy pretzels recipe starts with melted butter and canola oil. To those two ingredients, we add sriracha sauce, powdered buttermilk ranch dressing mix, garlic powder, cajun seasoning, and onion powder.

There are so many spices that can be added to make seasoned pretzels so go with what you prefer. Other popular pretzel spices include dill weed, cayenne pepper, and lemon pepper seasoning. You can add them in addition to the spices already in the recipe or as a substitution.

After whisking the seasoning mixture to combine, pour over the pretzel sticks immediately.

Stir until all of the pretzels are coating with the oil and spicy pretzels seasoning mix.

Once the pretzel sticks are covered with the seasoning, sprinkle them with grated Parmesan cheese and stir to coat.

Bake the spicy pretzels at 220F for 20-30 minutes stirring after 15 minutes, until the oil is absorbed.

    How To Make Seasoned Pretzels:

First, preheat oven to 270 degrees Fahrenheit.

Place the ½ cup of oil, garlic powder and ranch dressing mix in a large gallon size zip lock bag. Seal the bag and shake to thoroughly combine these ingredients.

You can also stir all the ingredients together in a large bowl. However, I have found that the pretzels are easier to coat in a gallon size bag.

Then add in the pretzels. Seal the bag but make sure to keep the air in the bag. Then shake to thoroughly coat the pretzels with the oil and seasonings.

*We have found that adding air to the bag allows the pretzels to move around easier inside the bag.

After that, spread the pretzels out onto a baking sheet and baked at 270 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes-20 minutes.

After they bake for 20 minutes, allow to cool completely and enjoy!

I told you this seasoned pretzels recipe was easy. Even the kids can make these themselves. I hope you get in the kitchen and have some fun together.

    Ranch Pretzels Recipe

These pretzels do not need to bake in the oven. But, for the best flavor, make them the day ahead and shake/stir them up occasionally so the flavors are absorbed by the pretzels.
