  • Roast the cumin seeds until they are fragrant and browned.
  • Grind to make a smooth powder.
  • Add 1 cup cumin seed to a skillet. Roast over medium-low heat until they are slightly browned and very fragrant . Keep stirring frequently while roasting.

Remove the skillet from heat and keep stirring for 1-2 minutes so that the seeds at the bottom of the skillet dont get burned from the residual heat. Let the seeds cool down completely.

    How To Make Jeera Water

There are different ways to make jeera water and you can select one which you like. The first method is the boiling method & the second one is soaking overnight.

    1. Pour water to a non-reactive pot or pan and then add jeera. You can also crush the seeds before adding to the water, so they release their flavor and volatile oils. You can do this easily by using a rolling pin and a board or using a mortar pestle.

    2. On a medium heat, bring the water to a gentle boil.

    3. Cover and simmer for 5 minutes.

    4. Increase the heat slightly and let it come to a boil again. You will see the seeds being swollen up and begin to release the aroma.

    5. Turn off the stove and cover it. Remove pan from heat and let cumin water cool somewhat.

    6. It is best to have this warm. You may leave it on the stovetop so it remains warm longer.

    7. Strain out the seeds from the water with a fine strainer or muslin. Strain it to serving cups. If the flavor is too strong for your taste you can also dilute it with more warm water.

    8. Traditionally jeera water is consumed plain & more often at room temperature. This is how I always have it. But if you are trying to incorporate this for weight loss then you may squeeze in some lemon juice. Remember not to add lemon juice to hot jeera water.

    9. Add honey if you prefer, if possible Manuka honey. Both lemon juice and honey are optional.

Serve cumin water warm and fresh, the same day for maximum health benefits.
