Recipe Chocolate Mayonnaise Cake Recipe

Adding mayo to cakes makes them moist and rich. Mayo is especially great for chocolate cakes, as they can become dense easily. It is a great ingredient to take boxed cake mix up a level and you wont be able to taste the mayo itself.

For the chocolate cake, mayo adds extra oil which provides tenderness to the cake crumb. In addition, the vinegar from the mayonnaise actually works to enhance the flavor. The acidity from it balance with the sweetness, allowing the chocolate to shine through.

The use of mayonnaise in cakes goes back to WWII. Bakers had to get creative with their ingredients as they were often faced with shortages. Mayo allowed people to stretch their budgets while also creating a delicious, moist cake.

It is best to use full-fat mayonnaise in order to get the best results on your cake. Light mayo will still work, but the cake wont be quite as moist or tender and will make the cake chewier.

Bump Up The Chocolate

One of my biggest tricks is instant espresso powder. Yep- I keep a jar in my pantry at all times.

Did you know that just 1 teaspoon added to any chocolate dessert will amplify the flavor tremendously? Like double!

Make sure you get the caffeine free kind though, otherwise that after dinner slice of cake might keep you up later than intended.

Easy Moist Chocolate Cake

With so many different chocolate cake recipes out there, varying in taste, texture, thin, tall, frosted or plain, it can be hard to choose one. But even though there are a ton of ways to make a chocolate cake, most would agree that the best ones are moist with a tender crumb so moist that it sticks to your fork when you take a bite. The kind that requires it be served with a tall glass of cold milk. Nobody wants dry cake! This Chocolate Mayonnaise Cake fits the bill on all levels. Its consistently moist and rich, with a wonderful deep cocoa flavor.

Frosting a cake is fairly simple if you have the correct equipment. Before starting, make sure the cake has cooled down all the way. If you frost it too early, it will be a disaster. If possible, use a turntable so you can easily spin the cake without too much effort. If there is a dome on top of the cake, use a knife to cut it, so it is even. Then use a spatula and add frosting to the cake. Slowly spin the turn-table as you go around the sides and on the top.

Tips For Cutting The Perfect Slice Of Cake

Im frequently asked how to cut a perfect slice of cake. Today, Ill reveal all my secrets for cutting this chocolate cake recipe!

    • I popped this layer cake into the refrigerator for a few hours to help firm up the frosting. When I was ready to cut a wedge, I grabbed a wide serrated knife and ran it under very hot water. PRO-Tip: Cut chilled, serve at room temperature.
    • Next, I wiped the knife dry with a clean cloth or paper towel and cut the cake with a sawing motion. I reheated and dried the knife for the second cut, making sure both cuts met at the center.
    • I used a metal spatula to remove the slice. Voila! Note that the cake will taste better served at room temperature, but slices better cold.

    What Is A Poke Cake

If youve never had a poke cake before, this will rock your world! A poke cake is exactly what it sounds like.. a fluffy cake poked all over and usually topped with a sauce like caramel or chocolate. I have a killer Chocolate Poke Cake From Scratch that I top with a homemade pudding mixture. Any kind of cake works and I even make a colorful Red White and Blue Poke Cake for the holidays but I do think this Caramel Chocolate Cake is my fave!

The caramel chocolate cake starts with a cake baked to tender perfection and while still warm, like a typical poke cake, I poke holes all over the top. The cake is then topped with caramel sauce and sweetened condensed milk which will seep into the holes and make it insanely moist.

I make this cake using a from-scratch cake mix but you can also use a boxed cake mix to save time if youd like!

The whole cake is then cooled and topped with whipped topping and drizzled with more caramel and chocolate. I love to add shavings of chocolate and even Heath Bits to decorate it.

One thing I love about this cake is that its better if it sits overnight. That means its easy to make ahead of time and perfect for potlucks, parties, and dinners.

    Chocolate Mayonnaise Cake History

When the Great Depression hit North America families were forced to stretch their budgets and make do with minimal and cheaper ingredients when it came to cooking. Dessert became a luxury for most and affordability was achieved through ingredient substitution. For example, shortening was substituted for butter, water was substituted for milk, and baking powder was substituted for eggs. Since mayonnaise replaced several ingredients in a cake, it just made sense! This cake was also very popular during the second world war when again, certain foods were scarce due to rationing.

Why You Should Make This Chocolate Cake

Chocolate Mayonnaise Cake | Chocolate Cake With Mayonnaise | Cake Recipe Urdu | Hindi By Chef Faiza

My mom wasnt one for fancy desserts unless it was for a special occasion. When she baked this homemade chocolate mayonnaise cake, it was in a 9 x 13-inch pan. Simple, yet decadent and irresistible! It was an instant favorite.

The magic mayo helps add the moisture that many chocolate cakes are lacking. When I pulled my cake out of the oven after 30 minutes, I was certain it was over baked and would be dry. I usually check the cake before the timer goes off, but apparently, I was distracted.

Rest assured, it was declared terrific by the whole family and the neighborhood chocoholic who relayed that it was the best chocolate cake recipe he had ever had . Not a single soul thought it was dry, despite that it could have come out of the oven at the 28-minute mark.

How To Know When Cake Is Done

There are several things to look for when baking a cake to tell if its done. First of all, the cake should start pulling away from the edges of the pan once its done. This is a great indicator that it has cooked up properly. Another thing to try is to take your fingertips and ever so lightly touch the top of the cake. If the cake bounces back right away, its done, and if it sinks and leaves and indent then, it needs to bake longer. Lastly, and the most reliable method is by sticking a toothpick in the center of the cake. It should come out clean when its done.
