Nothing but juice, for three days. No Cheez-Its, no coffee, no celery.

But really, by juicing, youre giving your organs a break from cleansing out all the nasty stuff youre eating all the time.

Youre also re-training your palate to like healthy crap.

The premise is that you drink six juices a day, with as much water and green tea as you want. I know that sounds like living hell, but it isnt.

Whats difficult is the preparation.

Let me tell you: juicing is a hell of a lot of work. Its perfect if you work from home or can do it on a 3-day weekend. Otherwise, its going to be hard to find the time to cut up all the ingredients for the juice .

Ah yes, the juicer. Thats the only shitty part. You need one to do this. And theyre not cheap.

After I realized I like juicing, I bought this BALLER juicer, which costs $99 and is a #1 seller on Amazon. But at first, I just used my parents ancient one .

If youre not sure youre going to be into the whole juicing thing, then ask around odds are one of your health-nut friends has one. Or, if you live near a health food store , theyll usually make juice for you if you give them the recipes.

You can also go for one of the delivery cleanse kits, but theyre ultra expensive. Better to save your money for travel.

If you dont own a juicer, you can conceivably blend the ingredients together and then strain out the pulp. Just remember: no solids!

Yes, it sounds like some crazy hippie/Gwyneth Paltrow thing, and it kind of is.

But when I decided to give a three-day DIY juice cleanse a try, I was stunned at how much I liked it.

As I thought more about it, I realized juice cleanses are perfect for travelers. Why? As a traveler, your routine is constantly getting disrupted, so its way harder for you to maintain a healthy eating pattern.

My Concerns Before Doing The Juice Cleanse

My main concern when thinking about starting the Juice Cleanse was my calorie intake. I have a 2 year old daughter, I didnt want to be consuming so little that I wouldnt be capable of doing all the daily tasks needed as a mum to a toddler. To be safe, I calculated my BMR my Basel Metabolic Rate, which is the amount of calories needed when you are at rest, the minimum calorie intake needed for your body. To do this, I entered my details on myfitnesspal.com and it calculated that I needed 1,207 calories per day for my current weight, height & age. On the press-london website, the juice cleanse package I was looking at totaled 840 cal per day which is quite a bit lower than I needed for my BMR recommendation and this wouldve been a problem in my opinion.

Working Out Your Calorie Intake Before The Juice Cleanse

For the D.I.Y Juice Cleanse, I calculated my calorie intake by entering all the ingredients for each juice on the myfitnesspal website, which is free to use. It totaled up the calories & nutritional information for me and it came up to 1,282 calories per day, which was close enough to my BMR recommendation.

How I am feeling after my 3 day juice cleanse plan:

Because I combined smoothies and juices I really didnt get hungry.

Before each meal I was hungry before lunch and dinner but once I had my smoothies I was fine.

Weight loss: I didnt weight myself as weight loss wasnt my goal but I feel healthy, energised and vibrant.

I am motivated to include more juices in my weeks and I feel ready to eat more whole foods.

If you want to do this little 3 day juice reset you can definitely swap the juices/smoothies around.

My main tip would be to follow your hunger cues and add more veggie than fruits in both smoothies and juices.

Also make sure to include 1 protein source in smoothie + healthy fats .

Why Do A Diy Detox Cleanse

I want to be able to do a detox cleanse whenever I feel like it and not have to pay a premium price by having a detox pre-made and delivered.

I use a Nutribullet blender which I treated myself to in anticipation of juicing every single day.

Admittedly I haven’t quite been juicing daily or even weekly, although I have the most wonderful intentions, sometimes life gets in the way and plans are temporarily set aside.
