  • Encourage self-feeding by offering plenty of finger foods.
  • Let your baby experience the food even it is more of playing and a mess.
  • Offer a variety of nutritious small meals.
  • Reduce sugary foods and avoid processed/junk food as much as possible.
  • Be an example for your child in food habits.

Feeding & Meal Time Schedule For 8

Food before one is important, but it should be a compliment to breastmilk and formula. As your toddler gets close to one-year-old they may begin to wean from breastmilk or formula and prefer solid foods and thats totally okay!

To make sure that we were always prioritizing liquid feedings before my babies turned one, its recommended to offer breastmilk or formula first and then offer solids about an hour later.

Both of my boys have always thrived on routines and schedules since they were very young . Here is the approximate feeding routine we used from 8-12 months old.

  • 7:30 am wake up, nurse/bottle
  • 8:00 am Breakfast
  • String cheese
  • Flaky fish
  • Shredded meat
  • Wait Im Worried About My Baby Or Toddler Choking On Solid Food

If youre worried about your baby choking make sure you check out our guide on baby gagging. Understandably, this is a common concern. Keep in mind that gagging and choking are two different things. Its quite common for babies and toddlers to gag occasionally.

If your baby or toddler gags a lot with new foods they might be getting used to the texture. Or, they may need help learning to chew.

However, if its happening a lot youll want to talk to your doctor and for sure head to that guide. This is something Ive seen a lot as an OT and the sooner you address it the better.

Of course, any concerns at all about your childs eating or variety of foods should be brought up with your childs pediatrician.

    Baby Brown Rice Cereal

Rice cereal is one of the most common foods to introduce because its less allergenic and easily digested.

Mixing it to a fairly thin texture can help babies make the transition from an all-liquid diet to a more solid one. This same process can be applied to steel-cut oats.

This buttery treat is a wonderful good fats food for babys brain and physical development. Plus, the creamy texture of perfectly ripe avocado is one that babies seem to love.

To help prevent browning, put the avocado pit in the puree when refrigerating.

An 11-month-old can have half-a-cup of solid food, three to four times a day . It is the minimum quantity that your baby can eat during mealtime. You can give a healthy snack or two between the main meals namely breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The meals should be an assortment of various foods to provide optimum nourishment to the baby.

Is Your Baby Ready For Solids

Baby Food Recipes For 6 To 12 Months Old/Baby Porridge Ideas/What My Baby Eats

In their 2012 publication, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends waiting until 6 months to start adding in solid foods, but some people start as soon as 4 months as long as certain developmental stages have been reached.

According to a 2013 study, babies who started eating some types of solid foods by 6 months old had a reduced risk of allergies and asthma.

Its most important that the baby can sit upright and hold their head up. Its also important that they show signs of interest in solid food. Once youve gotten the okay from your childs pediatrician, youre ready to bring on babys first foods!

A few things to keep in mind when thinking about baby food:

    • New eaters only need about 1 to 2 tablespoons of a food, so keep portions small.
    • Be on the lookout for allergies, especially when feeding your child foods that contain common allergens. Common allergens include eggs, peanut, wheat, soy, fish, and shellfish.
    • The newest evidence shows there is no benefit in delaying introducing these foods beyond 6 months or to introducing foods in any particular order.
    • Most of all, dont forget to have fun!

Some people prefer to go organic, wild, pastured, and grass-fed whenever possible. Some foods may be higher in pesticide residue, including:

    • apples

    Youve almost made it!

Baby have mastered the single-ingredient stage 1 baby purees, rocked the combo purees like it was no big thang and now baby is ready for the next stage in their eating adventures.

Get ready for Stage 3 Baby Food!

Stage 3, or Chunky Purees, is the last stop of the puree culinary adventure for baby the next phase is finger foods.

What is Stage 3 Baby Food you ask me? Well, put simply, Stage 3 baby foods are a puree with small chewable chunks inside. Having small manageable chunks in a puree gets baby ready for finger foods by having them explore similar tastes that they are used to but with completely different texture profiles.

Baby has to learn how to move the chunks around their little mouths, how to chew at those chunks and finally they have to learn to swallow them without gagging or chocking. Its a sensory and exploratory practice that takes some time, but trust me baby will learn how to do all of these things in no time at all.

What Should Babies Eat At 9

Just as with any age, babies benefit from eating a wide variety of foods.

Remember that certain foods such as honey, cows milk, deli meat, and undercooked foods are not allowed and can be dangerous if consumed.

Some of my girlsfavorite foods between 9-12 months have been:

    • Whole milk yogurt
    • Hummus
    • Shredded cheese

These ideas also help answer that all-important question of what finger foods can you give a baby? raspberries, broccoli trees, and scrambled eggs are good examples of finger foods that will help your baby practice their pincer grasp .
