Why I Like Homemade Coffee Creamer

How to Make Dairy-Free Coffee Creamer | Minimalist Baker Recipes

I like to make homemade coffee creamer because most of the ones at the grocery store have unnecessary additives. They use fillers, gums, and carrageenan, which are all hard on the gut. They can cause digestive discomfort, bloating and inflammation. I try to avoid the following ingredients, which are common in store-bought dairy-free creamers and nut-milks.

    Why Youll Love This Recipe

Did you realize even the smallest size pumpkin spice latte, at our favorite coffee chain, Starbucks, has 200 calories and 37 grams of sugar? Yikes! The sugar syrup contains sugar, condensed nonfat milk, sweet condensed nonfat milk, coloring and artificial flavors. If youre vegan, you should know even if you order a soy or almond milk latte without the whipped cream, its not vegan because the syrup contains dairy.

    • A healthier coffee creamer. This healthier version of pumpkin creamer is perfect for making your own at-home pumpkin spice lattes. It uses almond or cashew milk as the base with the addition of real pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice and your choice of sweetener. The result is a smooth, flavorful creamer with a subtle sweetness, as opposed to an overly sweet sugar bomb. Feel free to adapt any of the amounts to your taste, and add sugar for more of a sweet treat!
    • Packed with fall flavors. Creamy pumpkin puree, warming pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon and a tsp of vanilla extract these are perfect for fall and Thanksgiving.
    • An easy recipe. So simple! With minimal ingredients and little prep, you can be whipping up delicious lattes in just 5 minutes!

You really only have two steps here. Make the caramel, then pour it into the coconut milk and SHAKE IT UP. Thats it!

You will combine the coconut sugar with water, vanilla extract, and sea salt in a saucepan, then let it come to a boil to thicken up. Then all there is to do is add it to the coconut milk. And you have yourself some coffee creamer!

You are going to love this creamer so much that you may never use store-bought again! It is perfect in hot or iced coffee drinks, and is a great way to save a few bucks while pretending youre at a coffee shop.

Why Is This A Healthy Coffee Creamer

For those looking to reduce the amount of processed food in their diet, this homemade coffee creamer is a great option. While there are delicious healthier options on the store shelves today, like Califia farms brand, theres really nothing like homemade.

Traditional coffee creamers are highly processed and contain ingredients like added sugar or artificial sweeteners that dont align with common weight loss goals, or with a minimally processed or whole foods diet.

While most store bought coffee creamers are perfect for those who are lactose intolerant, its not quite enough for me unless its a filly vegan recipe.

    Important Note On Gelatin/collagen Types

When it comes to gelatin or collagen, you dont want any old product off the supermarket shelves. You want to look for 100% grass-fed gelatin from healthy animals. Just like other animal products, quality is important.

That is why I recommend Vital Proteins Grass-Fed Gelatin products and Perfect Supplements products exclusively. I have compared these brand with other brands on the market and the quality far surpasses anything else Ive tried. I am thrilled to be one of their affiliate partners and support such great products and companies.

Perfect Supplements offers a grass-fed hydrolyzed collagen right now and has a gelatin in the works for 2016. Read my review of their product here or watch the video below. You can order their own products via their own site here or .

Vital Proteins offers two types of gelatin. The green top is what you need for this recipe and for recipes where you are making gummies, jello, etc. The blue top is cold water soluble and does not thicken or gel like gelatin does. Both are very nutritious, but cant be used interchangeably. You can order their own products via their own site here or .

This recipe totally knocked it out of the park for me. I got the maple flavoring I wanted without being heavy on the sweetness. Plus, I was able to use coconut milk to keep it dairy-free. If you can tolerate dairy, this works well with raw cream.

Want To Make Your Own Gourmet Herbal Coffee Blends & Support Your Stress Response Adrenals Thyroid And Whole Body Through Herbs

When it comes to supporting overall wellness, herbs are a great tool to have in your toolkit, especially those who may be dealing with chronic illness of some type. Since 2009, when I started this site, I have met thousands upon thousands of people through my work and by far, the #1 health complaints are:

    • thyroid disorders

Because of this, I wanted to add in a section into this post about the benefit of using herbs with chronic illness. Adaptogens are by far one of the most used herbs when it comes to working with people who have low energy, fatigue, and overall imbalance in the endocrine system .

While the benefits of adaptogenic herbs extend far beyond just supporting that one system, this tends to be one of the main reasons people turn to adaptogenic herbs in the first place. That said there are a lot of other herbs out there that offer amazing support for the body, especially those dealing with chronic illness which is why I wanted to share this section today.

If you are dealing with any type of chronic illness, Im sorry to break it to you, but caffeine may not be your best friend. While you can find lots of info online in both the pro- and the anti-coffee camps, the fact of the matter comes down to the fact that are a lot of people dealing with chronic illness, especially thyroid and adrenal problems, that simply cannot tolerate coffee and caffeine.

    And it sucked.

Dairy-Free Vanilla Coffee Creamer Recipe | Danielle Walker

I always like to try to reduce my dairy intake wherever I can, and just swapping out your regular milk or cream for a plant-based milk is a really easy way to do that. I find that cashew and coconut milks are usually the richest and have a natural sweetness to them even when you buy the unsweetened version, so I used a milk that was a combination of the two.

The Best Whole 30 Compliant Creamer

Ever since my first Whole30, three years ago I have been on the hunt for the best Dairy Free Coffee Creamer. I have done cashew creamer , I have done bulletproof coffee, ghee, coconut milk and coconut cream. While all delicious, viable, dairy free coffee options, they all included my blender.

Im sure youve tried to plainly mix in coconut milk into your coffee how about some collagen too? With a spoon? Plain, chunky, fail. Gross. Then there are some store-bought options, like Nutpods. I personally at not a fan. They fall flat, too thin, not creamy enough.

This Dairy Free Coffee Creamer is the real deal. Creamy, dreamy, easy, and SO affordable. For about $20 in ingredients, you get 40 ounces of coffee creamer, thats about .50 an ounce. Cheaper than buying coffee every day!

The Amount Of Sugar Is Just Too Much

Coffee creamers like International Delight or CoffeeMate are filled with artificial ingredients, preservatives, and sugar.

In fact, 1 tablespoon of International Delight creamer has 5 grams of sugar. If you put 3 tablespoons of creamer in one cup of coffee, thats 15 grams a sugar first thing in the morning! And thats only 1 cup of coffee!

Lets say you have 2 cups of coffee and end up using 6 tablespoons of creameror 30 grams of sugar. Just to put that in perspective a Hershey bar has 17 grams of sugar. A pack of Reese peanut butter cups has 16 grams of sugar. A Snickers bar has 20 grams of sugar. A can of Pepsi has 30 grams of sugar.

    Isnt that crazy?!?

And thats if youre measuring the creamer. If you just pour it in without measuring it, then you can be adding an easy 40-50 grams of sugar to your coffee every single morning. Yikes!

This is the highly-processed bad sugar that increases your blood sugar and basically turns right into fat. Not to mention, this type of fat sits right in my gut and never leaves.

So, I can try and deny the negative effect coffee creamer has but I cant argue with numbers. I wouldnt eat a candy bar first thing in the morning but thats essentially what Im doing when adding fake creamers to my coffee every morning.

Will My Oat Cream Curdle In My Coffee

Your homemade oat cream will curdle ifthe temperature of your coffee is too hot, or your coffee beans are too acidic. In order to combat this, make sure your coffee beans are not too acidic, you can wait a minute or two before adding in your oat milk creamer, or you can pour your coffee over your vegan creamer.

Ive added my oat milk creamer straight away to my hot coffee with no issues. If you follow this recipe card, you will end up with the best oat milk creamer.

In My Oat Milk Creamer I Added:

    3

Oats: You can use pretty much any oats you have on hand. In this recipe, I added quick oats and had no issues! If you use something heartier like steel cut oats or groats, you will have to soak your oats in water for a few hours or overnight until softened.

Water: Helps the oats to blend better and will be the main liquid base for our oat milk creamer.

Cashews: The secret ingredient added that helps to make our homemade coffee creamer thick, silky smooth & oil-free! The natural oils of the cashews emulsify when blended into a thicker oat cream with a subtle nuttiness.

Vanilla extract: Added flavoring to enhance the oat milk creamer.

Medjool Dates: Provides natural sugars & just the right amount of sweetness without being overpowering.

Salt: Balances out the sugar and sweetness of the nuts and dates.

  • If using cheesecloth: strain the mixture through the cloth and squeeze the almond pulp to get the almond cream out.

How To Make The Best Dairy

Vegan Whipped Cream – Great Dairy Free Coffee Creamer!

Ive got a little secret for you. Are you ready? Its actually rather mind-blowing. Homemade dairy-free milk beverages actually perform BETTER in coffee and tea than store-bought milk beverages and creamers. Trust me. Ive tested dozens of store-bought and homemade dairy-free creamers over the years, and the easy recipes win, hands down.

Why? I believe its because most store-bought creamers contain emulsifiers, thickeners, and other additives that can be finicky when they hit your hot cup of joe. The pure, simple ingredients in homemade dairy-free creamer submerge for a more seamless finish. And those ingredients are ones that you probably keep stocked in your pantry!

Ingredients In This Dairy Free Creamer:

    • Coconut Milk: You want to grab the canned coconut milk. Be sure it is unsweetened and full fat. Using another non-dairy milk instead of the canned coconut milk will result in thinner more watered down creamer.
    • Almond Milk: I like to use unsweetened vanilla in this recipe, but plain works just as well. You could also use another non-dairy milk of your choice.
    • Coconut Crystals: Also called coconut palm sugar or coconut sugar. Studies show that coconut sugar has a lower glycemic index than cane sugar, which means it causes a slightly lower rise in blood sugar. Ive found that this is a 1:1 swap for brown sugar so if you cant find coconut sugar, brown sugar will give you the same result .
    • Vanilla Extract: Be sure and pick up pure vanilla extract, not bakers vanilla or imitation vanilla. You could also use almond extract or another flavor if youd likeexperiment and have fun with this!

Does This Taste Like The Fake Coffee Creamers

Im going to be honest here.

This is not the super cream flavor or texture you find with other creamers . Keep in mind all those fake coffee creamers are filled with chemicals and artificial ingredients to get that flavor and texture we love.

Youll never get the same flavor and texture from homemade. So, theres going to be some adjustment.

However, the homemade coffee creamer recipe Im going to share is the best one Ive tried! Trust me- if I can drink and enjoy it, anyone could!

Dairy Free Peppermint Mocha Coffee Creamer

    November 14, 2015 by

This naturally sweetened, dairy-free peppermint mocha coffee creamer is a healthy alternative to store-bought creamers. Its vegan, gluten-free, paleo-friendly, refined sugar-free, and super easy to make. A delicious way to spruce up your morning coffee without the artificial flavours and preservatives!

You know you have a slight problem on your hands when youre standing over your kitchen counter holding a bottle of coffee creamer and fighting hard to resist the temptation to drink the entire thing down. Sans coffee.

But thats exactly the kind of situation I found myself in the other night, and the only thing that stopped me was the fact that I still had to photograph the recipe for you guys. So thank you. Love you. Owe you.

I mean, it wouldnt have been that horrible if I downed the entire thing, considering it was homemade and packed with healthy ingredients , but it was around 8pm and Im pretty sure it would have left me pretty darn wired. Sans coffee or not.

Besides, I used up my last can of coconut milk, and I wasnt about to go running out to the store to buy more. Turns out the joke was on me, because while I saved myself the late night run for coconut milk, I ended up having to make an two early morning runs for mini candy canes just because I thought theyd make a cute little addition to the pictures

which you have to admit, they do.
