Testing Viral Copycat CRUMBL Cookie Recipe (Chocolate Chip)

These spectacular spiced cookies have a lot going on. They arent cupcakes shaped like cookies or cookies shaped like cupcakes.

However, the cookies are so soft, fluffy, and light that it almost seems like youre biting into a cupcake.

Youll also cover each one in thick, fluffy vanilla cream cheese frosting, furthering the cupcake comparison.

Finally, youll dust them all with cinnamon and sugar for that standard snickerdoodle flavor.

Oh, and heres another! Interestingly, the Milk Chocolate Chip Cookies dont always look the same from day to day or store to store. This may be why all the Crumbl copycats are a little different. Some bloggers claim their copycats are exactly like Crumbls, so maybe they are more like their local stores version? I dont know. Its confusing, but it made my own attempt at replicating the cookies a little more fun.

Chocolate cake is one of my all-time favorite desserts. Every year for my birthday, I request a homemade chocolate cake. There is just something so comforting, delicious and damn-near perfect about a rich chocolate cake. But when you make it into a rich, deliciously, handheld cookie topped with a chocolate fudge buttercream frosting, Im just as smitten.

That is the recipe Im sharing today. Chocolate Cake Cookies with Chocolate Fudge Buttercream Frosting. Yes, this is another Crumbl copycat recipe but its just too good not to share with you. Its like having a piece of chocolate cake but in a less messy, dont-need-a-fork kind of way.

How To Make Crumble Chocolate Chip Cookies:

  • Preheat the oven.

Set the oven to 375 degrees.

  • Get out your mixer.

Add the room temperature butter and both types of sugar to a large bowl. You can use a stand mixer or hand held mixer to cream these ingredients.

  • Add the eggs.

First, scrape down the sides of the bowl. Then go ahead and add in the eggs and vanilla extract. You will need to beat this for 1 to 2 more minutes until it is mixed together really good.

  • Next, stir in the dry ingredients.

Stir in the flour, baking soda and salt by hand and mix until just combined. Make sure to do this by hand and not with the mixer. Also, do not over mix.

  • Fold in the large milk chocolate chips.

Gently add the chocolate chips and fold into the mixture.

  • Make the cookie balls.

These cookies are large so we wont be using a cookie scoop. Instead, use a measuring cup and take ½ cup of the dough and roll it into a ball.

  • Place on the baking sheet.

As you make the cookie balls, place them about 2 inches apart on a cookie sheet. Each baking sheet should fit 6 cookies on it. If you prefer, top each cookie with extra chocolate chips.

  • Bake

The cookies will bake for 12 to 15 minutes on the middle rack or until the cookies are slightly golden brown. Oven times can vary and you want to be very careful not to overcook the cookies.

  • Cool

Let the cookies cool on the baking pan for 15 to 20 minutes. Then move to a wire rack to cool completely.

How To Make Them Smaller

How to Make The BEST Chocolate Chip Cookies! Copycat Crumbl Cookies

Crumble cookies are known for being huge. If you prefer to make them more normal size, just use a cookie scoop to make them.

The cookie scoop that is about 3 tablespoons should yield a more normal size cookie. The cooking time needs to be adjusted if you are making smaller cookies.

I would bake them for 7 to 8 minutes.

This size is perfect for little hands or when you just need more cookies. However, the large size really provides such a wow factor and looks like the ones from the bakery.

How To Make The Best Crumbl Knockoff Chocolate Chip Cookies:

  • Start by creaming cold butter , brown sugar, and sugar for at least 4 minutes, scraping the sides of the bowl often. This allows the sugar to wrap around the butter which helps to create a smooth, creamy cookie dough.
  • Add eggs and vanilla and mix for 1 minute longer.
  • Fold in cake flour, all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt.
  • Add Guittard milk chocolate chips. To achieve a thick bakery style cookie, I weigh out my cookie dough using a digital scale and shoot for 5-6 ounces. I like to keep my cookies uniform so they will bake evenly.
  • Bake at 400 degrees. Yes that sounds hot. It is hot. But that’s what makes them so special and gives them those outer crispy edges. The key is to let them hangout on the cookie sheet without removing them for at least 10 minutes. This allows the cookies to setup in the center.

Crumbl moms recipe cookies or chocolate chip, peanut butter chip, and toffee oatmeal cookies are soft, chewy, and topped with a light sprinkle of sea salt to balance out everything.

Ingredients In Crumbl Chocolate Chip Cookies

    • Butter- I use salted butter, but if you are using unsalted, just add a few extra pinches of salt to the recipebecause salt makes everything taste better.
    • Granulated Sugar
    • Brown Sugar- The recipe calls for more brown sugar than white because brown sugar is key to taste and texture. It helps create that perfect chewy texture that you want in a cookie!
    • Eggs
    • Vanilla ExtractRead the recipe carefully, that is TABLESPOONS of vanilla, not teaspoons. All that vanilla is really going to help us replicate the Crumbl flavor.
    • Flour- Plain old All Purpose flour will work perfectly.
    • Baking PowderUsing both baking soda and baking powder will help us get a thick chewy cookie.
    • Salt
    • Chocolate Chips Crumbl infamously uses the big Guittard milk chocolate chips, they are high quality. They melt well and stay soft in the cookie, but if you cant find them, or if you have a preferred brand that is okay too. Every now and then Crumbl will do a semi sweet chocolate chip cookie as their cookie of the week. So it wouldnt be totally blasphemous to use semi sweet in this recipe if thats your thing.

    Recipe Tips And Advice

Storage: These copycat Crumbl chocolate chip cookies will store up to 3 days in an airtight container, and the dough will store up to 3 month in the freezer. If you decide to store the dough in the freezer I recommend shaping them into dough balls first.

You can also freeze the baked cookies too, those last up to a month. Just make sure they are completely cool prior to freezing.

Reheating: If you want to get it back to that freshly-baked consistency, you can pop a room-temperature cookie in the microwave for 10 seconds and it tastes good as new.

Supplies: Cookie sheets are a must. A stand mixer is great for this recipe, but a hand mixer works just as well to ensure a smooth consistency in the dough. A large ice cream scooper is helpful for scooping out your cookie dough.

How To Make The Perfect Crumbl Chocolate Chip Cookie Copycat

Crumbl Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip Cookies

The trick to this recipe isn’t just what ingredients you use but how you use them. Follow this simple order of operations exactly for the best results. Note-use a stand mixer if available because the mixing time is critical to how the cookies turn out.

Step 1: soften butter. Either let butter sit until it is room temperature and can easily creamed or run a tall glass under hot water, pour out the water, and place the hot glass over the butter standing up on the counter top. The heat from the glass will slowly, evenly warm the butter to soften it without melting it.

Step 2: cream the butter and add sugars and vanilla. Scrape down the sides of the bowl and mix on medium-high for a full 5 minutes. Don’t shorten the creaming time here. Butter/sugar mixture will appear light and fluffy at the end of 5 minutes because you’re aerating the mixture. The butter/sugar combination has science behind it, as does the air pockets you’re creating during the creaming process. You can stop to scrape down the sides once or twice.

Step 3: add corn syrup and mix on medium-high for another 3 minutes.

Step 4: add 1 egg and mix until completely incorporated . Then add the second egg and again mix until completely incorporated.

Step 5: add corn starch, baking powder, and baking soda. Mix until well combined.

Step 6: add milk powder and mix until well combined. Be sure to scrape down the sides and mix another 30 seconds before adding flour.
