After a few hours of cooking, my kitchen was full of great aromas, and it was time to get working on my glaze. Since Im a big fan of balsamic vinegar, I knew it would be one of my ingredients. How Long To Cook Pork Roast In The Crock Pot

All crock pots are different and the newer ones seem to cook way faster than they used to. So it can take a little practice to get to know your slow cooker and come up with the perfect time. For a 3-4 pound pork loin it takes approximately 8 hours on a low heat. I almost never turn mine to high because it just dries out the food. A little fat on the meat helps to keep things moist if you end up leaving it a little bit too long.

If you are using a pork shoulder, I like to do closer to 10 hours to make sure it is really tender. The shoulder is a little bit tougher and needs just a little bit more time to really break down and become delicious. How Do You Make Gravy From Pork Roast In Crock Pot

How do you make the gravy for the Crock Pot pork roast? Well, that is really easy. Allow it to make its own gravy as it cooks.

Juices from the pork render as it slow cooks and combine with the gravy mix, creamy soup and liquid to make the best gravy for your pork roast. Its delicious and everything cooks in the slow cooker.

One of my best tips for preparing meals in your slow cooker is to pre-heat your slow cooker on the high setting with the lid on while you gather the ingredients and prep for your recipe.

Lightly spray the hot crockery then add the creamed condensed soup, gravy mix and cup of liquid stock. Be careful since the crockery is warm and use a whisk to combine the gravy mixture.

What Size Slow Cooker Should I Use

Ive edited this section as Ive received a few emails from people having varying success with different size crockpots. I recommend a 4, 5 or 6-quart crockpot. It holds the right amount of liquid to meat ratio. Crockpots cook best if they are at least 3/4 full so you may want to adjust based on your machine and how big your meat is.

If you choose to cook it in a smaller crockpot you may have to adjust the liquid in your pot down and check your meat sooner. A smaller crockpot sometimes means it cooks quicker because its fuller, so check carefully.

If you choose a bigger crockpot, adding a little more liquid is a good idea. A bigger crockpot can also work well if you decide to add extra vegetables to the bottom of the crockpot.

I used to have a love affair with my slow cooker. I think when you get a new appliance that shaves valuable time off the cooking process we tend to take advantage and overuse it until we just cant stand one more thing that comes out of it. That actually happened here.the slow cooker became a dust collector because I made just one too many stews.

It wasnt until recently that I busted it out, dusted it off and decided there had to be other things this handy appliance could be used for besides the old standbybeef stew. And so.I roasted.

How to Make Apple Cider Pork Loin Roast – In the Slow Cooker!

Im going to sound pretty effing daft here in a minute but

I hate pork. I love me some bacon and sausage, but pork roast? Not my thing. So I basically thought lets put this in a slow cooker. So first and foremost, pork and shredded cabbage went into the slow cooker. Then I thought, How do I make it taste good?

Well, I do remember when I dated Todd, his mother taught me several of their favorite family recipes, one of which was Stuffed Pork with Zali . I dont remember how to make that like I do some of the others she showed me, but based on that, I threw in a jar of sauerkraut.

Then I was like, Ok any other ideas? Seasoning? and I threw in a beer. The first beer I used with this recipe was Fat Tire because thats what my husband was drinking at the time. We lived in Wyoming close to Colorado.

Then I realized in later years that sauerkraut is cabbage. I didnt know. So I omitted the fresh cabbage because I already had cabbage. I swear I am actually very smart. Its just some of lifes important facts slip by for a very very long time. This is a serious confession. Its like realizing the proper way to pronounce hyperbole and thinking of all the times you said it wrong to people, and that time you were insulting someone who was being mean with a mispronounced word, and you feel sinfully dirty for being that stupid. This is one of those times.

My mom makes it with dare I say it Michelob light. Its still good, but not as good.

How Long Does It Take To Slow Cook Pork

When you cook a pork roast in a slow cooker, how long you cook it for depends on how large your roast is. I use a small 3-4 pound boneless pork roast for this recipe and I like to cook it in a slow cooker on LOW for 10-12 hours. You can cook it on HIGH for 6-8 hours, but I think the texture and flavor is better when you cook it on low.

I cook this Pork Roast recipe in a 4.5 quart basic crock pot.

Do You Cook A Pork Loin Fat Side Up Or Down

How to cook a Pork Roast in a Crock Pot recipe – slow cooker

Most people recommend cooking a pork loin fat side up. This ensures as the fat renders, it drips down the meat and adds flavor. You can also trim the fat before cooking the meat, but it will lose some flavor. Pork Loin tends to be a fairly lean cut of meat, I recommend trimming any fat after cooking your roast.

    Avoiding Dry Pork Roast

To keep pork from drying out in the crock pot, do not overcook it. This is the first and most important rule.

    • Unlike tough, fatty cuts of meat, leaner cuts like pork tenderloin and pork loin do not become more tender the longer they cook.
    • Some crockpot models run hotter than others. Check your meat earlyyou can always cook it longer, but once it is overdone, its hard to go back. A 3-pound pork loin will take 2 to 3 hours to cook in a crock pot on low.

Use an instant read thermometer to check the pork for doneness.

    • This thermometer is my absolute favorite and well worth the price for the lightening fast read time and dead accuracy. That said, an inexpensive one like this is still effective and will save you from overcooking your meat.
    • Pork is considered done at 145 degrees F. I remove mine 5 to 10 degrees early and let it rest. The carryover cooking will bring it to a safe temperature.

    Slow cook on LOW.

    • It is better to cook pork roast in the crock pot on LOW heat.
    • High heat in the slow cooker will dry out the meat on the outside before the inside finishes cooking, no matter how early you check it.

    Sauce it up.

    • This crock pot pork roast with vegetables and gravy creates its own sauce. If you cook the meat a little too long, spooning that sauce generously over the meat will help rehydrate it. Plus, it tastes delicious!
