Add ground turkey to a large bowl and season. Season with Worcestershire sauce and add in remaining ingredients.

If needed, add in up to ½ cup breadcrumbs. Combine using your hands and create 6 equal sized patties. Freeze patties for 10 minutes to one hour.

Is A Turkey Burger Healthier Than A Hamburger

The answer to this question depends on what type of ground beef youre comparing your ground turkey to. Many burgers are made with chuck, which is 80% lean. In this case, the turkey burger would be the healthier choice because its lower in fat and calories. That being said, if you use an extra lean ground beef , it will have a similar nutritional profile to the ground turkey.

Can I Freeze Grilled Burgers

You can freeze grilled burgers. Just let them cool to room temperature, then store them in a freezer-safe bag in the freezer for up to 3 months. When you are ready to enjoy them, heat them up in the microwave until warm or leave them in the refrigerator for a few hours to defrost before heating them on the stovetop.

Turkey Burger Recipe Ingredients

  • Ground Turkey: Some brands of ground turkey have more moisture than others, so I recommend testing different brands until you find one that isnt too wet, especially if you plan to cook your burgers on the grill. To keep turkey burgers from falling apart on the grill, you can freeze the patties for 30 minutes before grilling to firm them up. Or you can cook delicate burger patties in the oven or in a skillet. If you choose extra lean ground turkey, your burgers may turn out drier than a less lean option.
  • Fresh Parsley: Chopped parsley adds fresh flavor to the turkey burgers. You can omit it if you dont have parsley on hand.
  • Worcestershire Sauce: This is optional, but it adds a delicious depth of flavor that makes the burgers extra irresistible. If you need your turkey burgers to be gluten-free, be sure to use a gluten-free Worcestershire sauce and serve the burgers in lettuce wraps or on gluten-free buns.
  • Onion Powder & Garlic Powder: These seasonings make the turkey burgers so flavorful.
  • Salt and Pepper: Dont skip the salt and pepper when seasoning your turkey burgers.
  • Egg: With turkey burger recipes it can be tricky to make a burger that is moist and juicy because ground turkey tends to be dryer than beef. The egg adds moisture for juicy burgers and also helps to bind the ground turkey mixture together.

What can I use instead of an egg?

If youre looking for an egg alternative, you can use one of these to add moisture to turkey burgers:

Garlic fresh garlic will give these burgers a ton of flavor its well worth using fresh instead of powder.

Onion powder I like to use onion powder instead of fresh onion to make my burgers because chopped onion can cause the patties to fall apart if its not chopped super fine.

Parsley fresh parsley will also add a ton of flavor if you want you can replace it will basil or cilantro.

Breadcrumbs I use seasoned breadcrumbs for extra flavor but you can also use regular breadcrumbs.

Worcestershire sauce this adds a little tang and extra flavor.

Egg the egg will really help bind everything together.

Salt its essential to season the burgers with salt to enhance all the flavors.

Toppings of choice I like to top my burgers with lettuce, tomato, and slices of onion but the options are endless. See more suggestions in my pro tips below.

How To Keep A Turkey Burger Juicy:

Adding a healthy fat to the meat is the key to keeping your burger nice and juicy. You can use olive oil as listed, or try another healthy fat like avocado oil.

Alternatively, you can sauté half a chopped onion and mix that in with the meat. The onion will help keep the burger moist. This is a great option if you dont want to add in the added fat, but we highly recommend the olive oil. It makes for such a great burger!

Add A Spoonful Of Mayonnaise

A spoonful or two of mayonnaise, mixed right in with the ground meat. Now hear me out. Most recipes use egg to bind ground turkey, helping the meat to form into cohesive, juicy patties. And isn’t mayonnaise really just an emulsification of egg yolk, oil, and acid? While raw egg can be used to bind the burgers, mayonnaise does the trick while also adding an irreplacable dimension of creaminess, moisture, and flavor. When the patties cook, the mayo melts into the pockets of the meat to create a wonderfully juicy patty. Goodbye, dry turkey burgers.

Why Are Turkey Burgers Dry

Like I mentioned above, ground turkey is much lower in fat than ground beef, thus making a drier burger patty once its cooked. If you use a lean ground beef to make your burgers, youll get a similar dry result. It really all comes down to fat content. While ground turkey certainly cuts down on some calories, a lot of people dont like turkey burgers because they are so dry. So, how can we make a moist and juicy turkey burger you ask? Never Suffer Through Crumbly Turkey Burgers Again

Yes, everybody makes basic cooking mistakes. Like, say, something as simple as overcooking mushrooms or toasting grains and spices. Below, reader Wendy Tedder Hamasaki confesses to botching a batch of turkey burgers to associate food editor Rick Martinez. Heres Martinez’s advice for making sure it never happens again. Welcome to Effed it Up.

__Dear Rick,__Honestly, I’m not a good cook at all. I screw up almost daily. But no one is starving at my house. They still eat. When it comes to my turkey burgers, they are always way too wet and fall apart on the grill. They end up sort of like meatloaf. I make them with ground turkey, green onion, garlic, egg, and breadcrumbs, so they should be all right. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,Wendy

Dear Wendy,

Wet turkey burgers? I have never heard that one. Usually people complain about them being dry and flavorless. Either way, it sounds like you’ve got a case of meatloaf burgers on your hands, which, to be honest, doesn’t sound that bad. But I understand that having them fall apart on the grill is not acceptable. Here’s how to fix that.

First, you need a binder. Just like in a traditional meatloaf, you need something to hold the meat together. Try adding some dry breadcrumbs to the turkey mixture before you shape the patties. The crumbs will absorb the moisture and, together with the egg, will act like glue and help your burgers maintain their shape on the grill.

Love,

How Do I Stop My Turkey Burgers From Drying Out

To make sure your burgers stay juicy and dont dry out make sure you dont overcook them. I find that 4 minutes on each side for a 1/2 inch thick patty is perfect. If you shape your patties too thin they will cook too quickly and dry out very easily. To be extra sure you dont overcook your burgers you can use a meat thermometer to check the temperature reaches 165F any higher and the burger will start to dry out.

Tips For Making Perfect Spinach Turkey Burgers

NO EGGS OR BREADCRUMB TURKEY BURGERS â Gusto Spice Recipe Kitchen

1. Be generous with the seasoning

Turkey is naturally a really bland meat and needs lots of help to warrant its several health benefits. Make sure to season the burgers well with salt, pepper and cayenne pepper for heat. Plus, the addition of garlic adds subtle, spicy flavours to really bring this burger to life.

2. Keep the meat moist

Being one of the leanest cuts of meat, turkey dries out incredibly fast. To help with this you can try adding extra moisture to the burgers in the form of condiments like mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, hot sauce. Or, instead try adding vegetables that hold lots of water, like finely chopped mushrooms, zucchini or spinach. This recipe uses loads of spinach and it makes the burgers so delicious.

3. Cook the burgers completely

Make sure to cook the patties completely, unlike beef, turkey is inedible if there is any pinkness in the meat. The best way to make sure of this would be to use your instincts and experience. The trick that I like to use is to gently poke the center of the patty. If i feel a slight spring back, I know it is ready – this spring back should feel exactly like the one you feel if you poke the tip of your nose.

A more scientific approach would be to use an Instant Read thermometer to measure the internal temperature at the thickest part of the meat. The meat thermometer should read at least 165 F to classify the meat as cooked.

The Ingredients In These Turkey Burgers

  • Ground turkey is the main ingredient in these burgers. Ground turkey is economical and can be kept in the freezer so whenever the craving hits, you have ground turkey ready.
  • Eggs act as the glue for the meat and are super essential. Without the correct amount of egg in the mixture, the meat would be too loose and fall apart.
  • Scallion adds some fresh onion flavor without the sharpness of the more traditional yellow or white onion.
  • Worcestershire sauce will bring a full, rich flavor to the meat without anyone detecting what sauce was added. Itll be our little secret!
  • Garlic powder and onion powder add subtle flavor without any raw flavor. The powder mixes into the meat evenly and easily.
  • Salt adds seasoning to the meat and brings out the meats natural flavor. Salt just may be the most important seasoning any meat can have.
