Muffin And Quick Bread Recipes For Lunch

12 Easy Food Recipes To Make At Home

One of my very favorite ways to get ahead for lunches is to rely on healthy muffins or quick bread as the main, then add simple sides like fruits and veggies, cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt, or even a smoothie to round things out.

Homemade Seasoned French Fries

Instead of going to a fast-food restaurant where their fries have ingredients youd need a science degree to understand, you can easily make your own from home.

Best of all, these fries taste ten times better than those often limp and flavorless potato sticks you get at many fast food joints.

Add some natural ketchup or easy homemade cheese dipping sauce, and youve got fries your kids will brag about to their friends!

Easy Pancakes From Scratch

Lets start with the all-time breakfast favorite, shall we? If youve only used a boxed mix until now, youll be surprised at how simple it is to make pancakes from standard pantry ingredients. Even simpler: Sheet Pan Pancakes , which get cooked all at once and dont require flipping. Set out some peanut butter or almond butter to spread on top, if you like, to make these more filling.

Make memories in the kitchen by cooking with your kids! Heres over 10 easy dinner recipes that kids can help make.

I love having my kids in the kitchen with me. Ive never been one to force them to help, but I do ask if theyd be willing to help from time to time and they are usually happy to lend a hand. Sometimes they show an interest in cooking with me all on their ownand when that happens, Im beyond thrilled.

For me, as Im sure it is for many of you, its not really about having them to lighten the load. Having the kids cooking with me is much more about the company, the conversation, and just being together. I think of my own memories of helping my mom and dad in the kitchen. I didnt do it a lot, but one of my favorite memories is when I was helping my mom make her special spaghetti sauce . She told me that someday I would find our her secret ingredient. I tried to get her to tell me that day, but she said I had to wait until I was older. I actually happily accepted that I wasnt going to find out that day, because I felt special knowing that someday my mom would share that special ingredient with me.

Note: As a reminder, use your best judgement on what steps your child can handle. While I list below the steps that a child can do, not every child is the same. Also, I recommend parental supervision on these recipes.

Tsai’s 10-year-old moxie aside, your kids shouldn’t expect unfettered access to the kitchen without you guiding them in the basics. “Your kid has to earn the right to be able to cook by themselves,” Tsai says, “so they have to watch you and help you. Even learning how to stir, it’s never with one hand, it’s always a towel in the hand, holding the handle of the pot.”

They should be able to use key equipment, like the blender or toaster oven if they’re younger and the stove when they’re older. Knife skills are important. We’re not talking Iron Chefâlevel mastery of a full-size chef’s knife. Tsai says a plastic salad knife is the perfect starter tool.

A reminder for cooks of all ages, if using a recipe: “Read the recipe in its entirety first, before you do anything,” Tsai says.
