Whats In The Ranch Mix

Ranch seasoning packets that you buy at the store are light on the herbs and heavy on the salt and dried buttermilk. They have their time and place, but if you are making it at home, you can use real dried herbs and make something really special.

And although you can buy dried buttermilk, I prefer to skip it and just make the dry mix with the spices. I then mix the spices into real buttermilk when I want a batch of ranch dressing or a marinade, like these pork chops. The ranch flavor in this recipe isn’t as strong as a store-bought mix or ranch dressing. It has similar flavors but isn’t quite as tangy. Of course, you can always serve the dish with a side of ranch dressing for more ranch flavor!

The recipe for the ranch mix here makes more than youll need for the pork chops and veggiesbonus! This seasoning mix can be used very liberally on meats and veggies, or stirred into mayo, Greek yogurt, and buttermilk to make a great salad dressing.

Can you freeze oven baked pork chops?

Absolutely! Once cooled, wrap each one tightly in plastic and place them in a freezer bag for extra protection. Freeze for 3 to 4 months and thaw in the refrigerator before reheating.

You can also keep leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Heat them in the oven or microwave until warmed through.

What is dry buttermilk powder?

Its a shelf-stable version of the dairy ingredient, made by concentrating the liquid and drying it into a powder. Its often found in the baking aisle near the evaporated milk.

In case you cant find it at your local store, you can also purchase it online. It will last for years in a cool, dry pantry.

How do you keep baked ranch pork chops from drying out?

Be sure to cover them with foil when they first go in the oven. This helps lock in the moisture before its time for them to brown.

You could also add a little chicken stock to the pan while it bakes, and dont forget to let the meat rest before slicing!

We have a great basic recipe for air fryer pork chops here. You can just substitute out the seasoning in our recipe for ranch seasoning. Heres how to make ranch pork chops in the air fryer:

  • Before seasoning the chops, rub about a teaspoon of olive oil over each chop so they get a coating but are not dripping with olive oil.
  • Next, season them as described, dipping the chops in the dry ranch seasoning.
  • Work in batches and place your pork chops in the air fryer basket. Make sure you do not stack the pork chops! Place them side-by-side with a little room between each.
  • Set the temperature to 375 degrees F and the timer to 9 minutes and then start cooking the chops.
  • Halfway through, stop the timer and remove the basket and then carefully flip the pork chops over. Replace the basket and continue cooking.
  • When done, make sure to check the internal temperature to ensure that they have reached 145 degrees F and then remove the pork chops from the air fryer.
  • Let rest for 3 minutes before serving.

Tips For Preparing Boneless Baked Pork Chop Recipes:

  • I am VERY cautious anytime I cook pork or chicken and I ALWAYS use a food thermometer to ensure its at a safe temperature before serving. The thickness of pork chops will affect the baking time, so check thin cuts earlier and thicker cuts later.
  • If youre not familiar with preparing pork chops, ask your local butcher which cuts and thickness they recommend for your method of preparation.
  • I prefer to use Yukon gold potatoes, but other varieties will work just fine, too. In todays examples, I used white potatoes, because thats what my local grocery store had in stock. I quartered them and cooked them as instructed below.
  • If you dont have dry ranch seasoning on hand, 2 teaspoons of ranch dressing from a bottle will work also. You could also make and use homemade ranch dressing mix.

How To Tell When Pork Chops Are Done

Rely on thermometer NOT time to tell when pork has been cooked fully.If you dont have a quick-read digital meat thermometer, it is one of the best investments you can make for perfectly cooked pork, every time.

I cook pork to the FDA guidelines, which does include a bit of pink in the middle.

This is NOT underdone if youre going by temperature pork is safe to eat at 145 degrees, and trust me, it is the best flavor and texture!

Tender, juicy, and flavorful pork is best when not overcooked so watch your thermometer!

When baking pork chops that are boneless, you want to make sure the internal temperature reaches 145ºF-160ºF, as measured with a food thermometer.

The cooking time for baked pork chops is going to vary according to the thickness of your pork chops.

Bone In recipes for oven baked pork chops will take longer to reach a safe consumption internal temperature.

You do not need to cover the pork chops will foil for this recipe, as you bake in your oven.

  • Rested its so tempting to cut right into a steak, chicken breast or pork chop but dont do it! Resting your meat will allow the juices to redistribute and youll have a much juicier meat.
  • When the pork chops come out of the oven, top with freshly minced parsley. This step is not necessary but with a mostly dry seasoning rub, I like the addition of a fresh herb. Plus, it looks so much more appetizing with a confetti of parsley.

    Pork chops taste best right out of the oven because reheating can dry them out. If you want to make them ahead of time, store them in a sealed container in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 days.

    To reheat, we recommend cutting them into slices and microwaving for 1 to 2 minutes or until warmed through. Alternatively, you could heat them in a skillet over medium heat until warmed through.

    Tips And Tricks For Ranch Pork Chops In Oven

    • Be sure not to overcook them. The key to a tender, juicy boneless pork chop is to not overcook them. You want to use an instant read meat thermometer and cook them only until 145°F. This is the meat thermometer I use.
    • If you’d like a more caramelized exterior, you can do a quick flash of broil at the end of your cooking time. If you do this, be careful not to overcook them.
    • If you’d like to brown and carmelize the outside, you can brush them lightly with olive oil and pop them under the broiler for 1 minute.
    • These are really great with a squeeze of lemon on top. It adds a bright, fresh flavor.
    • Be sure that your pork chops rest a few minutes before you cut them. Letting them rest will keep them tender and juicy.
    • You can bake these on a baking sheet or any sort of casserole dish you already have on hand. Use what is easiest for you.

    Alterations For Picky Eaters

    • Serve with ranch or ketchup for dipping. If cooked properly, your pork chop should rival that of any other tender, juicy meat, similar to chicken. Picky eaters will love it if cooked properly and given with their favorite dipping sauce.

    How To Make Baked Pork Chops And Potatoes

    First, line a sheet pan with foil for easier clean-up. You can also skip the foil or use parchment paper if you want.

    Then, place pork chops and cut baby potatoes on the sheet pan, keeping them in a single layer.

    Drizzle a little olive oil over the chops and potatoes, and toss to make sure they’re evenly coated.

    Next, season the chops and potatoes with the dried ranch dressing. Sprinkle some garlic powder and a little bit of smoked paprika over everything, as well.

    These pork chops are beyond simple, making them perfect for weeknight dinner. Just 3 ingredients and about 30 minutes to make these chops.

    I love any recipe that can be made with just a few ingredients that you keep on hand. Considering pork chops and oil are two of the ingredients, really its the dry ranch mix that you need to make sure you have stocked in your pantry.     I dont have a firm recommendation here. It depends on the situation.

    • Boneless pork chops will cook faster and are easier to serve. Just slice them up and youre done!
    • Bone-in pork chops have more flavor and wont overcook as quickly. Theres more leeway in the cooking time, but that also means that they generally take longer to bake. Bone-in are also harder to slice and serve.

    Its personal preference. Generally, I save the bone-in pork chops for grilling and use boneless for this recipe .
