Simple Meals For Your 1
Ill be the first to admit that feeding a one-year-old can be positively maddening. Theres the teething, the inability to communicate fully, the choking hazards, the obsession with throwing food on the floor, the signs of picky eating, and so much more.
When my oldest child was one, I didnt think my husband and I were eating healthy enough, so I made separate meals for her. This solution worked out just fine since she was our only child and I had the time to make two separate meals. But now that I have 3 kids, cooking additional food would be insane for my much busier schedule. So I dont even go there.
And, guess what? Cooking one meal for the whole family has been working out pretty darn well lately.

Things To Keep In Mind While Making Food Chart For One Year Baby:
#1. Feeding cows milk to your baby can still be put on hold till the 18th month. Breast milk is sufficient in terms of milk consumption and even trusted brands of formula are safer than cows milk. Cows milk puts undue pressure on your babys kidneys and this in turn may cause diarrhea and fever.
#2. Now that your baby has some teeth, it is time to slowly do away with pureed or mashed food items. There is no need for food like this as your now baby can chew solids and semi-solids easily. If your baby doesnt know how to chew or shows reluctance in chewing food, consult a pediatrician to figure out what the problem is.
#3. Dont give in to your babys food tantrums. Now that he has tasted some wonderful tasting foods, he will only want those, even though it may not be healthy. Stick to healthy food options and keep the sweets and savouries to a minimum.

Bananas Peaches And Other Soft Fruits
Around this time your 1-year-old starts to develop their pincer grasp, which involves pinching and maneuvering food with their fingertips, as they endeavor to self-feed. This is a great time to introduce finger-friendly foods.
Softer, fresh fruits are wonderful options for this transitional time and beyond. They not only deliver needed nutrients and a host of beneficial plant chemicals but also help cement healthy eating habits .
Slice bananas, clementines, strawberries, peaches, or mango, and slowly introduce them to your child. Avoid large pieces of fruit, as they may pose a choking hazard. Cut grapes into halves or quarters and never feed these to your child whole.
If your child doesnt immediately take to the new fruit, dont stress. In fact, studies show a child typically needs to be exposed to a new food 615 times before accepting it into their diet .
Soft fresh fruits can also be easily made into a smoothie or make an excellent snack when youre on the go.
However, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, make sure your child eats any cut-up fruit within 2 hours after being out of the fridge. If youre outside and its over 90°F , that time shrinks to within 1 hour .
Soft, bite-sized bits of fruit are excellent choices, especially as your child experiments with self-feeding. Be sure they eat any cut-up fruit thats been out of the fridge within 2 hours, or within 1 hour if youre in hot temperatures.
Lunchbox Ideas For One Year Olds At Daycare
Any of these lunches can be packed to send to daycare or preschool. Or just to take on the go. I have a few lunchboxes and thermoses that I love, so see which might work best for you in your circumstances.
TIP: As always, adjust these toddler lunch ideas based on your one year olds chewing ability, preferences, and allergies. Which is to say: Iff you see something that isnt cut or prepared the way you know your toddler would need it to be cut or served, you of course have full permission to change it. I did my best here to visually show you suggested serving options, but you may need to adjust.

Chicken And Broccoli Puree
While your toddler is little, it is a great time to get them used to the flavor of broccoli. It is a vegetable that is full of wonderful vitamins, but it is far from loved by other toddlers. This is a very simple recipe and creates enough to freeze for later. You will need:
- 1 chicken breast
- 1 cup broccoli florets
- 2 tablespoons cheddar cheese
To cook this recipe, you need to place the potato and chicken in a steamer pot over boiling water for 5 minutes. Add the broccoli and cook for another 3 minutes or until chicken is cooked all the way through.
All of the vegetables should be fork tender. Place all of the ingredients into a food processor and puree. You can leave it chunkier for a toddler who likes the texture. For a creamy texture, you may need to add some water from the steamer.

Why I Love Adding Foodie Ingredients To My Homemade Baby Food
Using a variety of spices to make food taste good will expand the childs palate, and also cut down on the sugar and salt that we often use to make foods taste better.
Vandana Sheth, RD, and spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
The goal here is to get our tots eating what we eat, and enjoying what we enjoy. As a vegetarian, it is particularly important to me to bring international world foods to the table
I love the suggestion that this approach can safeguard against potential bad habits later. That makes perfect sense if my kids dont learn to love healthy, innocent flavor enhancers like spices and herbs, there are going to be less options for making her food appealing and this is where sugar and salt can creep in.

Baked Honey Soy Chicken
Honey and soy is a winning combination with kids and adults alike, and glazing this yummy mix over succulent chicken thighs and baking them in the oven is one of the best ways to enjoy this awesome mix of flavours.
The kids love it when the chicken skin turns golden brown and crispy from the honey soy glaze and will literally fight for every last piece of the skin when we make this for dinner.
I usually complete the meal by making another tray of vegetables and sliding both trays into the oven to bake simultaneously. So easy and so yummy!
Many recipes suggest eating this with white rice but our familys personal favourite is to cook up a pot of couscous and drench the fluffy little grains with the sticky honey soy sauce.
Important note: Remember that honey is a strict no-no for children below one due to the possibility of botulism, a rare but potentially fatal illness that may affect infants below one if they consume honey. If you have a toddler aged one and below, remember to take the honey out of this Asian food recipe.
Ingredients youll need:
- Sea salt, for seasoning to taste
- Olive oil, for drizzling over the chicken before baking
What To Do When Your Child Refuses To Eat Solid Foods
Make sure she is hungry at mealtimes and has not just had a snack. Although breastfeeding continues to be healthy for your child, breastfeed her only after her meal. At this age, she should eat solid food first.
Give your child healthy food that she likes or mix the food she likes with food she doesnt like as much. Try different food combinations and textures.
If she still refuses, dont force or pressure her to eat, and dont be tempted to give her junk food instead.
Be calm and accepting. Give your child positive attention when she does eat, but dont make it a problem when she doesnt eat. Just take the food away, cover it, and offer it to her again a bit later.

Storing Table Food After Cooking
Refrigerator: Baby food spoils more easily than other foods, because it has been pureed or ground. It also does not contain the preservatives needed in many shelf-stable processed foods. If freshly prepared baby food is not used right away, refrigerate it in shallow covered containers and use within one or two days. Meats, poultry, fish and egg yolks should be used within 24 hours. Make sure your refrigerator maintains the food at a consistent temperature of 40 °F or lower to keep food safe.
Freezer: Freeze pureed baby food in single-serve portions so that it can be heated and safely fed to your baby. There are two recommended ways to freeze it.
Ice Cube Tray Method: For single-serve portions, pour cooled, pureed food into a paper cupcake liner or directly into sections of a clean ice cube tray. Cover with plastic wrap or foil and place in freezer.
Cookie Sheet Method: Drop 1-2 tablespoons of cooked, pureed food in separate spots on a clean cookie sheet. Cover with plastic wrap or aluminum foil and put in freezer.
When cubes or pieces of food are frozen solid, put them in a plastic freezer container or bag and store in the freezer. Write the name of the food and the date on the container and use within one month for best quality. Make sure the freezer temperature is cold enough to keep food safe.
There are three ways to warm baby food.
Higher-fat foods, such as meat and eggs, should always be warmed on the stove, because they heat faster and splatter or overheat more.
Is This Baby Food Chart Suitable To My Baby
This Indian baby food chart is a generalized one suitable for most babies. However i suggest you to use your judgement whether to include or not, certain ingredients in your babies diet based on your babies allergies, intolerance, appetite, likes and dislikes.
I have tried to link most Indian baby food recipes that I have posted earlier on this blog. Many were written almost 5 years ago and are updated regularly with new tips based on the readers reviews.
This Indian baby food chart was developed by me based on what i fed my 2 kids, whose birth weight was 3.3 kgs and 3.4 kgs. The ideas were basically drawn from the health and baby weaning booklets that were given to us during our visits to the singapore clinics, hospitals and few from clinics in Bangalore.
This chart is also suitable to babies who were preterm born or were underweight. However I suggest mums with such babies to consult a pediatrician if you are skeptical about these foods.
This post will be updated, to include tips and other information. You can leave a comment here if you want to know anything specific which will be answered. Please feel free to share or discuss your experiences, views, problems that you encounter while weaning your babies in the comment section. It could be helpful to other readers, its through sharing we can learn.
