6 Vegetable Puree for 6 months baby

Here is a list of easy and nutritious finger foods to offer to your 6-month-old. Many of them are high in iron, zinc and fat, important nutrients at this age. Serve them for meals if you are following Baby Led Weaning or alongside purees if you are following the traditional approach to the introduction of solids.

    1. Apple wedges smeared with coconut oil sprinkled with cinnamon and cooked in the microwave until very soft. Raw apples and other hard foods like raw carrots are a choking hazard, so its important to either cook them until they are soft or grate them.

    2. Toast dipped in a soft boiled egg. Eggs are one of the superfoods that are especially good for babies. Full of fat, protein and lots of vitamins and minerals, they are also very easy to prepare. Some babies do not like the texture of omelet but its less messy, so worth a try with your little one. Choose salmonella free eggs with the Lion stamp or pasteurised eggs if you are in US.

    3. Toast with nut butter. Yes, you can give your child nuts from early on, if your doctor gave you the green light. Some kids with a genetic predisposition to food allergies may benefit from a delayed exposure to nuts. I dedicated a part of Stress Free Solids program to how and when to introduce potential allergens, signs, symptoms and action plans related to each type of allergic reactions and examples of foods with potential allergens.

Now that your baby is nearing her first birthday, she can start eating many of the same foods as the rest of the family is eating albeit with a few modifications.

To avoid a choking hazard, make sure that the foods youre offering her are soft, easy to mash and cut into small pieces. And to keep your babys meals as healthy as possible, avoid adding salt or sugar.

Ideally, your 10- to 12-month-old will be eating a grain or vegetable starch, a protein, and a fruit or vegetable at every meal. Here are a few meals that you can serve to your 10-to 12-month-old along with everyone else in the family.

  • Chicken with apples and rice

Packed with protein, chicken is a kid-friendly staple that will likely be a part of her diet for many years to come.

    Ingredients:

    • Spices, if desired

    Instructions:

  • Cut an apple into slices and layer them at the bottom of a slow cooker. Add the chicken and any desired spices .
  • Add enough water so that it barely covers the food cook until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees F.
  • Can You Freeze Baby Food Made With Breast Milk Or Formula

Freezing baby food that has been mixed with fresh breast milk is totally fine, however you should not freeze baby food that has been mixed with previously frozen breast milk. Frozen and thawed breast milk should never be re-frozen.

Most formula companies dont recommend freezing formula, but from what Ive read its okay to freeze homemade baby food that has been mixed with formula to thin.

Another option is to freeze the baby food purees without adding any liquid. With this method you can thaw the baby food puree in the fridge overnight and then thin the food to the desired texture with breast milk or formula right before serving.

This post all about freezing baby food has a ton of great insight and tips.

Are Finger Foods Safe For Babies

Yes, research shows that if finger foods are prepared and cut in a safe way, they are as safe for babies as purees.

The key is to ensure that all finger foods you serve to your baby can be easily squashed between your two fingers, so they are soft enough for your baby.

When your baby is just starting to self-feed, they are not likely to be able to pick up small pieces of food, so make sure that the size of the finger food you are serving is two adult fingers thick and 1 adult finger long.

How To Store Homemade Baby Food

Once you have the baby food blended to the consistency you want, let the mixture cool and then transfer into BPA-free storage containers or into an ice cube tray. Ive been using silicone ice cube trays and these 4 oz glass storage containers. The ice cube trays are great for younger babies who arent eating as much volume because you can defrost one cube at a time. While the 4 oz jars are great for older babies who are eating more than 1 oz at a time.

We had the ice cube trays on hand, and I just recently bought the WeeSprout glass storage containers that are specifically for baby food. I like that they have measurements on the side of the jars and that theyre glass instead of plastic . They are also freezer, dish-washer and microwave-safe. Plus they come with colorful lids that you can write on with a dry eraser marker to note the item and date.

When using the ice cube trays, I like to let the food freeze overnight and then transfer the cubes to a freezer bag so I can free up the ice cube tray for more food prep. I used plastic freezer bags for these photos but have since purchased reusable Stasher bags to use. Theyre freezer safe and non-toxic and a healthier option for the environment.

The baby food combos will keep in the fridge for 2-3 days and in the freezer for up to 3 months.

    When Can Babies Eat Purees

When a baby can start on solids is determined by their own rate of development, which generally comes between 4-6 months of age. Some of the developmental milestones babies need to reach in order to start solids include: if your baby has solid control of their head and neck, if your baby has doubled in weight, and if your baby is reaching for or opening their mouth when you eat . Before you start baby on purees, you should consult with your pediatrician to make sure your child is developmentally ready.
