Homemade Protein Bars Only 5 Ingredients

Youll love the pure, nutritious, simple ingredients that go into these quality protein bars. All you need are:

  • Whole Rolled Oats: whole oats provide a more robust texture than quick or instant oats.
  • Real Peanut Butter: we love chunky peanut butter, as it lends a bit of crunch to the bars.
  • Whey Protein Powder: feel free to use your favorite flavor, though we highly recommend steering clear of artificial sugars, as those tend to have an unpalatable aftertaste. Our personal favorite is pure, unflavored 100% whey protein powder, which weve been using for years.
  • Real Maple Syrup or Honey: it just feels better than sugar. Plus, maple or honey has the sticky texture needed to help bind the bars.
  • Milk: we use regular cows milk, but feel free to use your milk of choice.
  • Totally optional: add-ins! We love dried blueberries, chocolate chips, or even drizzled chocolate on top.

Tip: If youre planning to stash these bars in your gym bag, backpack, or lunch sack, we recommend skipping the drizzle on top. Theyll stay a lot neater that way and youll like us more.

If you dont follow a grain free or keto diet, you can use another flour instead of coconut flour. Here is what can be substituted instead:

  • Almond flour: You can use almond flour or almond meal as another low carb and grain free flour. However, you will need to double the amount of coconut flour required.

The Best Low Carb Protein Bars

Most store bought keto protein bars on the market today contain nuts. Often they include either almond flour or almond butter or cashews or some form of nut butters.

I love that we can now find so many delicious keto protein bars online, but when you have a nut allergy or your child or spouse does, it makes it impossible to purchase most granola bars and low carb keto protein bars available.

When you’re eating a keto diet and even a low carb diet, getting in a good amount of protein and healthy fats will help with satiation.

Keeping the carbs low, these bars have a total of 5 carbs with dietary fiber at 2 grams. If you count net carbs, these have 3 grams per serving. If you are also tracking calories, one of my keto protein bars has just 150 calories.

The great thing about my keto protein bars is they do not need refrigeration making them easy to grab and go!

When Should I Eat These

No-Bake Chocolate Fudge Protein Bars (sugar free, gluten free, vegan)

Need a healthy mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack? These are absolutely perfect for that! Whether you pack these in your kids lunches, bring them to work with you, take them in your purse when youre on the go, or even to a pot luck they come in so handy! I even like having them for a treat after dinner. They are filling so I often have a bite sized piece.

I always say, eat when youre hungry and stop when youre full. If you are in the need of a snack, I encourage you to eat! Butgo for something nutritious. These bars are truly the perfect snack.

Pick A Great Protein Powder

First things first when making a sugar-free protein bar: pick a high quality protein powder, not one with sugar, obviously. You should also pick one that uses organic or non-GMO ingredients whenever possible. Its a great idea to test a few out in a smoothie first and pick which one you love the most. This will be the largest base in your bars, so you want to be sure its one you love. Some of my favorite flavors are French vanilla, vanilla, mocha mint, and chocolate. I use cup of protein powder in my recipe to make a total of eight bars.

How To Make Gluten Free Protein Bars

1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line loaf pan with parchment paper.

2. In a blender combine the oats, collagen, and cinnamon. Blend until the oats have become flour.

3. In a large bowl, stir together oat mixture, banana, peanut butter, honey, and vanilla.

4. Spoon the mixture into the prepared dish. With a spatula or your hand, flatten until its evenly distributed across the pan.

5. Bake for 14 to 16 minutes or until browned. Set aside to cool completely.

6. Once the bars are cool, remove from the pan and cut into 12 squares.

7. To make the chocolate topping, add the coconut and chocolate to a small bowl. Microwave for 30 seconds, stir and then if needed place back in the microwave for another 30 seconds. You dont want to overheat the chocolate as it will freeze up.

8. Once your chocolate has melted, drizzle over the bars. And then serve.

Is It Bad To Eat Protein Bars Every Day

Nope. As long as theyre not your primary source of protein, protein bars are a great way to help pad out your daily protein intake, which should come from a variety of different foods.

Protein bars can be added into a well-balanced eating pattern, Ansari says. She generally encourages a food-first approach, where you meet most of your protein needs with other kinds of foods and add in protein bars to help fill in the fueling gaps throughout your day.

I would try incorporating one or two bars between meals, and see how they help you meet health or performance goals, Ansari says . Eating high-protein bars daily is especially cool if youre making your own bars that are primarily made from whole foods and free of ingredients that could bother your stomach. Not to mention, cheaper.
