Yes, you can whip up this dip in advance and store it in the refrigerator until its ready to be baked.

Once assembled, this dip can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two days, depending on the freshness of the chicken used. When ready to bake, let the dip warm up on the counter for about 30 minutes, then bake per the recipe instructions.

No Leftover Chicken No Problem

However, if you dont have any leftover rotisserie chicken, dont worry, you still can make this delicious dip.

You could cook a small to medium size chicken breast and shred it yourself. Do this by boiling the chicken, baking it in the oven, or make Instant Pot Shredded Chicken.

But I have an easier solution. Purchase a 5 ounce can of cooked and shredded chicken at the grocery store.

You can use leftover rotisserie chicken or canned cooked chicken for this recipe.

You can find cooked canned chicken in the same aisle that the tuna fish is located. Just look for a small can that has cooked white chicken in water.

Then open the package, drain it and add it to this recipe. Separate the strands with a fork and you will have close to one full cup of cooked and shredded chicken.

How Long Can You Leave Out A Party Dip

Whenever you serve a dip for your guests to enjoy, you should always keep track of how long it sits at room temperature.

For most foods, the general rule of thumb is that a perishable item should not be in the danger zone for more than two hours. And by danger zone, this is usually at or just above room temperature.

Since this dip will be served warm, that should give you another 30-60 minutes before needing to keep track of the dip. So, in total, this dip can be left out for an absolute maximum of three hours, depending on the temperature of the room. However, be sure to still check the dip every now and then and use your best judgment.

Once you pass the recommended time, you can heat it up in the oven again or you can store it in the refrigerator or freezer as directed above.

For best results, Id recommend using a warming tray so that the buffalo ranch chicken dip stays warm and above the danger zone temperature.

    One of the great things about this recipe is it can be made in a slow cooker making it perfect for office parties in particular. It stays warm until needed and a slow cooker makes it easy to transport. It can also be made in the oven for those times when youre hosting a get-together at home.

    You can freeze buffalo chicken dip in an airtight container. Reheat in the microwave and stir before serving.

    We have not tried freezing buffalo chicken dip but have heard from readers that it works great.

    • Canned Chicken I know! It sounds crazy but its good! You could substitute with whole chicken breasts shredded. I would guess that 2 cooked chicken breasts would be. perfect! You can use the normal 9.75oz size can or the bonus size of 12.5oz. Either work!
    • Cheddar Cheese I like the sharp shredded cheese kind!
    • Cream Cheese Can you EVER have enough cheese?
    • Ranch Salad Dressing Yep. I said RANCH. I think cools down the hot sauce in this. spicy appetizer dip. You could Blue Cheese Dressing if youd like.

    • Blue Cheese Crumbles I dont have this on my dip BUT its a hit for a lot of people. Try it out!

    Its one of THE easiest recipes to make!

    • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
    • Prepare the recipe as directed in the recipe card below. Then pour into a medium baking dish and sprinkle 1/2 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese on top and bake for 15-20 minutes or until bubbly. Its then ready to eat!

    A great way to keep this warm is to use a crockpot on the counter or to take with you on the go!

    If you bake it in a dish, use a thermal carrier to keep your dish warm. I love mine and use it often!

    Note: You can also bake for 20 minutes or until the mixture is heated through and its hot and bubbly.

    Depending on how much time you have, you may either prepare just parts of this recipe ahead of time or the whole thing and store it in the refrigerator until youre ready to bake and serve.

    The easiest way to save time is to cook the chicken ahead of time. Poaching and shredding chicken takes approximately 40 minutes, start to finish, so if you can knock that out and have the chicken ready, youre already way ahead of the game.

    How To Make This Easy Buffalo Chicken Dip

  • First, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Completely shred rotisserie chicken into small pieces. Or, drain 12.5oz cans of natural diced chicken breast from their excess water. Add chicken into a mixing bowl and pull apart chicken with 2 forks until mostly shredded.
  • Add in 4oz of cream cheese, ½ cup Frank’s Red Hot Buffalo sauce, ½ cup french onion sour cream dip , ¼ cup chopped green onion, ¼ cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese and 4oz freshly shredded cheese of choice. I used Tillamook sharp white cheddar. Optional: add up to another ¼ cup shredded cheese if extra cheesy dip is desired!
  • Sprinkle in 3 tablespoons of green onion dip mix seasoning and fold into mixture.
  • Grease an 8″ x 8″ oven safe dish. I always use Pam cooking oil. Pour in dip mixture and spread evenly into the pan.
  • Bake for 25-28 minutes at 350 degrees F. If desired, broil at 525 degrees F for 3-5 minutes or until cheese on the top is golden brown. Be sure to watch the dip in the broiler to ensure it doesn’t burn!
