Coconut Oil To Get Rid Of Fleas

DIY Homemade Flea Spray for Dogs (3 Cheap, Natural Recipes)

Coconut oil is a natural and non-toxic alternative to chemical repellents. The fat in the oil coats the exoskeleton of any existing parasites and essentially limits their mobility and suffocates them.

To apply, rub the oil between your hands to make the consistency less dense and apply it throughout their coat, working it down to the skin. Any pests living in their fur will jump right out because of the repellent nature of lauric acid in coconut oil, so its best to apply outside so the bugs dont fall out in your home.

When To Look Out For Fleas

These pesky bugs love to settle on your dog during the summer months and year-round in geographic areas like the southern United States. According to ThePestInformer, fleas prefer temperatures of 65 to 80 degrees and humidity levels of 75 to 85 percent. If you live in an area that has this kind of climate throughout the year, flea control and prevention is key to your dogs comfort.

They have all worked to prevent fleas to one degree or another, but I prefer this third recipe because it doesn’t need to be applied daily, and it doesn’t smell bad.

Here’s how to make this: in an empty spray bottle, you’ll need to combine 1 cup of apple cider vinegar, 3 drops of lavender or peppermint essential oil, and then fill the rest with water.

The apple cider vinegar and essential oils repel the fleas, and the oils mask some of the bad scents of the apple cider vinegar.

You will only need to apply flea spray every 2-3 days as well.

It works well to repel fleas on the dog, and I’ve also noticed a reduction in the number of ticks that my dogs have picked up since we began using this homemade flea spray.

Once every 2-3 days will be fine.

It’s also 100% safe for your dog.

In fact, I add a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to my dog’s water bowl every day for an added boost in preventing a flea infestation.
